Welcome to the Retro Game Gauntlet, gentlemen: http://s3kr.it/gauntlet.html

Start at NES, and work through in the following order:
NES
SNES
GB/GBC
Megadrive/Genesis
Turbografx16
DOS
NeoGeo
GBA
Commodore 64
Playstation 1

You have three days (or as many days as you like--it's all cool) to complete the game without assistance (each game gets three days, though RPGs are allowed a week due to length).

Select your system here:
http://s3kr.it/gauntlet.html

You can also do it manually if you don't trust the random...

Ultima Series thread
What's your favorite Ultima games?

I feel that Ultima V:Warriors of Destiny has the best story but Ultima VII + VII Part 2 have the best gameplay.

I got the gog pack with every Ultima so I'm doing a replay of the series from the beginning.

The only ones I've really played any significant amount are the NES port of III and Underworld. Love them both.

My first UIltima was 7 so it was hard for me to get into previous ones and the later ones sucked. I wish it was remade with better interface (namely inventory) and combat but it's still very good, I'm still amazed at the amount of detail it has and how npc's behave
>>
>>2805616
I've never played any of the spinoffs but I heard the GameBoy ones were good.

>>2805649
The first three and 6 have some pretty bad interfaces which is going to prolong my playthrough, but 4, 5, 7, and 7pt2 were well and good. I'm dreading getting to 8 and 9, considering I've never finished them the first time around.

Final Fantasy IX Thread.

This was the first Final Fantasy game I played as a child. My mother bought it for me randomly. Upon playing it for a few minutes; I was heavily immersed. You seem to meet each character at the perfect times to grow accustomed to them. Zidane; a thief. Steiner; a blindly loyal soldier. Vivi; a child, and so on. I feel no bond to any other characters as I do this set. The rate in which they grow in front of your very eyes is astounding for an early game.

The music in this game sits apart from the other games to me. The simple acoustic theme...

>>
my least favorite of the first 10 games. no interesting characters or plot lines. i can barely remember anything about the story actually. i thought the graphics and design were a step down from VIII. the gameplay itself was fine and i liked the music, especially the overworld theme.
>>
>>2776035
I play it for entertainment?
>>2776036
I also like the overworld theme. And understandable opinion man, not all games click with everyone. Im at the point where I remember everything about the game. I love the story

This secret scene in Horizon in Final Fantasy VIII.

Well, there are a lot of hidden story and gameplay stuff in FF8, but that one I only discovered on my 10th of so playthrough.

There is also a couple of hidden pistol ammo I found out much later on in Resident Evil 2, like for the instance the one hidden behind the middle statue in the room where you have to push 2 statues around to get one of the red gem.

Also few people know but the PC version of Resident Evil 1 has an extra hidden pistol clip. It's located at the back of the Tyrant fight room in...

Tails' secret areas, mainly in Sonic and Knuckles. There's an entire upper level in Sandopolis 1 that I found out 2 years ago. Too bad that, angel Island, and marble garden are the oonly levels with tails only routes

58 KB,
I'm gonna start a thread where we help each other find games we encountered way back when but can't remember their name because I'm bored.

1. Post a description of the game to the best of your memory. MS Paint picture welcome.
2. Help other anons find their game.
3. Recommend other games to anons while you wait.

The game I've been trying to find is from around the mid 90's I think and has a large purple alien on the cover art.

The opening cinematic is the player getting inside some type of capsule/pod that's sitting in the middle of a science lab (tesla coils and blinking lights kind of look). You either time travel or get transported to another planet; the first level is a type of jungle with a village.

There are tons of spike fruits laying around everywhere and it the game controls like Diable/Fallout, etc; with a grid inventory on the main screen.
>>
Two games I can't remember:

First one is a game where you have to survive in an alien world, and all the aliens speak a language that you can't understand. Someone suggested Captain Blood in previous threads but I faintly remember you owning a car with wheels in the game, rather than a spaceship. Also you had to buy parts from the aliens for your car.

Second one is a top-down action/horror game, can't seriously remember whether it had horror or not. The setting was an arctic village/base, maybe in Alaska or Antarctica? Gameplay was basically comparable...

Looking for a DOS(?) Action Platformer. You play as a walking reptile and blow shit up with weapons. Enemies would burst into meat, blood and bones if killed.

There's this "so many great untranslated retro games, sigh" idea being thrown around so often, but what are they?

I mean, not some niche games aimed at a small group of fans but actually great games that would have been generally considered such had they been translated?
