Hey guys,
I want to buy this sweet-ass game called ff9. I've been wanting to buy it for a while but it's not on steam or anything. Where is a place I can get it that doesn't involve me figuring out to use an emulator or buy a playstation 1?
>no pc port
>no emulators
>no original hardware
Huhhhhh do you at least have a PS2/3?
>>2837752
Yeah. I do. So I guess that is one option. Still, I go to college and bringing an PS around isn't the best.
just emulate you cunt
double dragon 2
>>2837742
Zelda II
>>2837742
Super Mario Bros. 3
Is the GBC version any different?
>>2837480
The last boss is different, and in the NES version most enemies are immune to one of the sword types but this was removed in the GBC port.
Is different in that you playing on smaller screen, and music sounds slightly different but still same.
Also instead of big cartridge you have nice compact gbc cartridge, feels good to put in gb cartridges, that's total + to me.
If you lucky you have ac adapter so you play long time all day. Have fun OP gbc is good game.
>>2837480
Yes, the Field Of View is smaller on GBC.... Except that enemies are still the same, leading to bad situations when enemies you haven't sseen yet are already triggered.
>Play a game with little to no dialogue
>Form ideas of what all the characters are like
>Suddenly sequel or remake or adaptation
>Everyone's totally different
What game was it for you, /vr/?
Other M

I count that as a fan-game that somehow got official Nintendo funding & licensing.

Does count Fallout and the first Baldur's Gate as open world games?
Keeping it retro:
Ultima III: Exodus - It doesn't seem like many Ultima fans really care for this game, but U3 got me into open-world RPGs in the first place.
Some honorable mentions include:
Metroid series
Dungeon Magic: Sword of the Elements (something of a hidden gem on the NES)
Dragon Quest I and II
Final Fantasy I and II
Romancing SaGa (and most other SaGa games, for that matter)
King's Field series
I recently started daggerfall, never played back when it was first released. It is fucking great. I like the dungeons and their maps is sick. It's scary how huge it really is. I had to change the keyboard setup a fuck ton to get it comfy. You can walk for days and there is some glitchyness that adds another level of play. I haven't even left daggerfall province yet.
What are your most comfy roleplaying games of olde?
ultima IX, very buggy, but charming
>>2837176
I think it was amazing what they tried to accomplish and the game certainly has a charm to it.
Daggerfall
I found it really hard to get into at first
and it has a huge amount of flaws for sure
but once it clicks it's really relaxing.
What are some must play RPG's I haven't played many ones that i've played (and loved) are:
>Baldur's gate 1&2
>FF VII
>Crono trigger
>fallout 2
>planescape torment
That's pretty much all i've played for retro RPG's any and all recommendations greatly appreciated
Super Hero League of Hoboken.

My dad got this for me for birthday, and I assumed it was $5 shit shovelware because that was what he had got me the last three times. The only times we got good games was when he pirated stuff from work.
I ignored it for like 8 months.
>It's actually a fucking gem
>wot.
Warning, possible huge nostalgia, don't think I ever beat it, and I haven't touched it in 10+ years when I tried to replay it once.
It'd help if you said a few words about what you liked in the RPGs you played, or which one you liked the most. The "must-play" list of RPGs is like 100 games long.

If you count Roguelikes, Nethack (or preferably Unnethack, which is a fork that greatly reduces the end-game tedium).
Playing online is recommended to avoid temptation to cheat, telnet to eu.un.nethack.nu or us.un.nethack.nu , whichever has best ping.
>released 1989
>last game 2004
Is the Neo Geo AES/MVS the most long-running video game platform (not counting later homebrew and computers)?
>>2837143
Sure, ok.
Is there anything here that's older?

Why are retro games better than new games?
Less padding
>>2836614
nostalgia
Because it was about the games- not the self-serving industry of parasites who publishes them.
Hey /vr/,
Any recommendations for hidden gems on GOG? Underrated games that deserve some love?
I love games like that.

Yes? No?

>buying old games
Are there any lesser known gems that are compatible with the original DMG Game Boy? Imports included.
I can think of a few games that never seem to get mentioned:
Bomberman series - There were several of these spanning DMG to Game Boy Color. A few of them include traditional versus CPU modes if you use special passwords.
Gradius - There were two of these for DMG, the first one being a rebranded Nemesis title in all regions.
Tetris sequels - Tetris 2 was ported from its NES version, and then there was Tetris Blast, which is known as Bombliss in Japan....

I like Double Dragon I and II on the Game Boy. Too is kinda simplistic, but at least it has an original plot and characters by the series' standards. 3 sucks though.
>>2836102
Was there a legit two tone GBP?
>>2836128
If I remember correctly "Double Dragon II" on GameBoy may be a reskinned Kunio (That Super Dodge Ball / River City Ransom guy) game that was released in America. I'm sure it is but I'm not going to google it :^)
Oh and Mario 2 might actually been Dong Dong Pong in Nippon.
I'm basing this thread on the '98 showcase of Duke Nukem Forever. Here's the footage in question:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR6qFFEkALg
The trailer makes the game look promising however it's not clear how much of it was actually a part of the produced gameplay or just a simulation of one. For example the 2001 trailer was all a bluf, nothing there was produced for the game. We are left to guess if the '98 one was a one too.
Anyways, the game looks cinematic beyond it's time. Closest PC rival is Half-Life at that's nowhere...

ahh sorry should've read before posting with mistakes
> Do you think such a game would've been actually released it would've ushered the era of cinematic FPS games much earlier instsead of it ended out?
Do you think DNF would've ushered the era of cinematic FPS games earlier if it had been released then?
Tacky misogynistic macho man garbage. Sage.
I would've prefered the 1996 version.
Cyan is supposed to be Japanese, correct?
I mean, Samurai and all...
No.
>>2835732
FF6 takes place in a world where Japan doesn't exist.
He's actually from Doma.
Games that have significant differences on harder difficulty levels. Different objectives, enemy patterns, endings, etc.
GoldenEye is much more interesting on harder difficulties with the different objectives it gives you.
Perfect Dark, obviously.
>>2835705
Why is his mouth so wide on that cover?
>>2836082
Shut the fuck up, faggot.
Looking for stuff on SMWCentral to play on my 3DS on blargSNES. The fucking resolution is perfect so games look really great on it.
The problem is compatibility. I figure anything Higan/Real SNES compatible should work. List so far that seem to start up ok:
> Second Reality Project
> The Crater
> Super Pika Land Ultra
> Super Mario Place
> Panic in the Mushroom Kingdom 1+2
> Master...
