Is the raspberry pi good for emulation? I hear a lot of hate for it but it's cheap and retropie is easy to set up and maintain. What's a good alternative?
>>2819610
Rpi 2 is great. Plays SNES/PS1 and everything older than those perfectly, except for maybe some MAME stuff? I'm not familiar with how it handles mame. If you're looking for n64/ps2/psp/nds/ngc/wii emulation you may need to look towards using a more conventional computer, but if you're not RPI2 is perfect.
I use Lakka instead of Retropie, but they're both fine. Lakkas just easier for me to setup and configure perfectly cause I'm familiar with retroarch
This board is for the discussion of classic, or "retro" games. Retro gaming means consoles, computer games, arcade games (including pinball) and any other forms of video games on platforms launched in 1999 and earlier. With the release of the 8th generation of consoles, the Sega Dreamcast will now be considered "retro", though the remainder of the sixth generation (Xbox, PS2, GameCube) will not.

Would /vr/ like a daily high score thread? Something where we all play an old arcade game, post a screenshot of our scores, and whoever wins gets nothing?
Could even keep a google doc of every day's leaderboards
I would really appreciate at least trying something like this.
I would be all over this idea. would we include timestamps?
>>2862987
I dont know, i dont wanna force everyone to put that much effort in their high scores. Can we try a few days and see if anyone's suspicious of someone lying/photoshopping/etc?
This shit
How do you remove this stuff with as little damage as possible
That shit probably makes it more valuable brodog.
You never know.
Don't do it buddy
seriously dude

Heating it up with a blow dryer and every slowly peeling it off.

It's just a product tag from a shop in Akihabara, how could it make the game more valuable.
ITT: Stupid shit you did as a kid
Pic related. The only CIB game i ever got from my parents was Conker's bad fur day (they tough that the game was for kids), it was a birthday present, the first thing i did was rip the box open and i threw the fucking box and manuals to the trash can, now it just hurts, because now im the kind of guy that collects that shit.
Any stories you can share with this fellow anon ?
I threw away all my boxes like 10 minutes after getting games as a kid too. But I kept the manuals at least. As I got older I started saving my GB Color and GBA boxes when i bought new games, but at some point when i had lost interest in gaming i threw the boxes away like an idiot. I also took a knife and SCRATCHED my name into almost every console and controller i had back then, and when i got mad at my NES games i would BITE the controller as hard as i could like an autistic tardbabby, so all my original controllers and systems look like they've been thru hell and back....

Even though I kept the jewel cases for my PS1 games, I still just stacked the discs in piles when not using them. Scratches galore
I also scratched some of my favorite PS1 games recently by playing them in a shitty PS2 slim. Even though they still work, they now have ugly ring scratches on them.

it's a terrible way to go through life being afraid of what you'll throw away. that's the road to hoarding.
a few years ago I just gave away my copy of conker to a coworker. you know why? because it's a shitty game. after using cheat codes to see all the levels, I never played it again because it was unplayably difficult.
if I still had it, I'd absolutely sell it. it's worthless to me as a game.
What are some of the absolute worst power ups featured in games? I'd have to say the flame gun in the first Contra game on the NES. Why the fuck did they have to make it so damn slow?
>>2860678
The flame gun is easily the best power up in the game. what are you smoking?
>>2860687
I don't have anything against the flame gun, but what makes it the best power up in contra?
>>2860687
How the hell is it more useful than the spread gun, which can demolish all the enemies on half the screen? Hell, the flame gun is more useless than the flamethrowers in Alien. The "F" might as well just stand for "Fuck You", because thats what I scream every time I accidentally pick it up.
Is there a legitimate reason for the large distaste of emulation on consoles? Just the disappointment or irritation I hear in somebody's voice when they say "it's emulated instead of ported", even if it's indistinguishable from the legitimate thing.
I think it's just due to >paying for ROMs
In general emulation is a poor representation of the original.
Stuff like horrible filters and mobile emulation are often the main focus which are terrible in all forms.

Who was better in the role of fan using ninja?

Which game has the best blue skies? Also bonus; why were games so sunny before?
The original Sonic games and Jet Set Radio. And After Burner.
Fuck, pretty much every old SEGA game.
>>2857258
Maybe to not have something so graphically intensive like rain? Rain can be literal sprites but can still make older games chug. Also pic related I used to play. Played it with the ps1 steering wheel and it was hard but fun.
>best blue skies?
My vote goes to Outrun
>why were games so sunny?
Games were more about having fun and nothing has dat comfy feel like a beautiful sunny summer day!pulled that out of my ass. How did I do?
Now that the dust has settled, is it dusty?
I don't even have my SNES anymore.
It did use to be pretty dusty though (dusty environment in general).
Dust now the that settled has
Thx for asking.
What's the best Dreamcast game?
I don't think there can be just one best game.
I'd say my personal top games are:
Grandia 2
Skies of Arcadia
Bangai-O
Bomberman Online (it was so much fun when the servers were up, and there were so many modes)
Guilty Gear X
And of course JSR.
Maken X is pretty underrated
JSR or Shenmue II. My two favorite games full stop desu.
Most overrated Classicvania game?
I thought this series was supposed to be hardcore as fuck, but I beat Rondo of Blood without dying once.
All of them.

I call bullshit.
And if valid upload a video of that, internet loves that kind of shit.
Shitposting will commence shortly.
Anyone else ever have the misfortune to play this piece of shit?
Just picked this up recently. Haven't played it yet, but from your description I'm glad I didn't pay much for it.
>>2861893
No. It was creation to cause pain in you.
Looks pretty awesome to me.
Are there any good Ice Games out there? Specifically Ice Platformers?
I really like Ice Levels in platformers.
Arcade Platformers like Ice Climber count.
please and thank you
>>2861663
Mega Man 1 is like an all game ice level. He's a slippery little fuck in the first one.
Penguin Adventure on the MSX
I dont really ever browse this board, so sorry if this is off-topic.
Im really particular about fov in games. In first person games, anything lower than 90 gives me this weird eye-strain/headachey sort of feeling. It's not quite motion sickness, but it's something similar. To be honest, even 90 is a bit too low.
I'm a big fan of the Souls series, so I want to play through the Kings Field series soon, but every time I try to play old dungeon crawlers I can't get past the low fov.
Does anyone else here have the same sensitivity to low fov...

I get the same thing with old first-person games. My theory is it's the same sort of effect as reading in the car; incongruities between sensory focus and motion.
>but every time I try to play old dungeon crawlers I can't get past the low fov.
Play Wizardry 1-5. The entire screen devoted to the field of view and widescreen.
Mapping is done by hand for extra immersion.
Movement is turn based (except for Wiz4) so motion sickness shouldn't be an issue.
>>2861242
Isn't Wizardy (and clones) only 90 degrees too? AFAIK everything before Quake was fixed FOV 90 or worse.
