A word of advice... When starting a thread talking about how awesome something is, POST A GODDAMNED LINK TO IT!
ITT: Games with horrible level design

>randomly place keys everywhere

Thankfully new version tidies up level design to fix this.
>infinitely spawning enemies to harass the player and waste ammo
Pretty sure the respawning isn't infinite.

I think it'd be neat if daily, we had all played a simple arcade game and see who can get the best score. So I'm going to try that.
Today will be Donkey Kong. I'm using Nestopia and the (JU) version of the rom. No clue what that means, all I know is this has 3 levels, not 4.
Attached is my shitty high score. Only made it to the 2nd loop, didnt really try, just wanted to put a "goal" for you guys to try to beat.
I also made a stupid...

Was the CD-i a good console without good games?
No
It was really expensive and compared the N64 it was fucking shit
>>2840691
PCs were better. Those had CD-ROMs and Gravis game pads as well. They also had games worth playing instead of weak titles that played more like the bonus features on a DVD.
>>2840691
People seem to think that the CD-i was intended to be a game console, which is why they think it's shit. (It doesn't help that the only people that tend to care about old technology are retro gamers like us.)
The CD-i was an interactive media device. It was intended for music or movie buffs to get a little more out of their hobbies. The fact that it had a few game-like releases on it is purely coincidental. It certainly wasn't a selling point.
Rather than thinking of it as a shitty game...

My memories of that time aren't clear at all but I remember being 4 or maybe 5 years old. My mother told me I was that age altough I swear I was, at least, 7. Everything before the divorce is fuzzy and blurred, kile meshed up together... but I remember the sounds, the graphics. My dad was kinda into tech on those days, a heavy contrast with his more conservative last days but thanks to him is that I found this wonderful hobby. Anyway, we moved to a new house. We were...

Why couldn't you read at the age of 5.
This seems odd, or are you a LOTE speaker
IOS remake is litereally a graphics downgrade.
Far left = New sprites
Far right = original
Middle two = fan edits
There's more detail in the original. She has two legs, more shading, two shoulders, darker colors.
It's mind blowing how shitty this is.
I'm not surprised. This what happens when you only care about the money.

Manual: Fair (has been used, all pages intact, edges slightly dinged)
Scratch-n-Sniff cards: REMOVED but included with package. Fair condition.
Game Pak: 100%. No dings, scuffs, markings. Everything works.

How are you supposed to keep cartridges from becoming discolored? I tried Retr0brite, but either I didn't mix it up correctly, or it didn't work.
I've always insisted on buying only cartridges that are in flawless condition, but later down the line, they become discolored anyway. How did the previous owners prevent that from happening to begin with? I don't keep my games exposed to direct sunlight, and it's not particularly hot where I live. In fact, I keep most of my carts tucked away in plastic storage cases, which are then placed in a dark...

Oxidation, my friend. Oxygen causes all kinds of havoc in everything, causing minor compositional changes. In this case, the plastic gets discolored and slightly more brittle.
Retr0brite works in my experience, though I guess results can vary. Beyond storing them in a box and not in the sun and whatnot I don't know what else you can do beyond occasional RB treatments.
>I've always insisted on buying only cartridges that are in flawless condition
I can understand this mentality if you want a complete collection for a console or your planning on reselling, but honestly I don't really get it if you just wanna play the game. As long as the cartridge is functional, why should it matter if it's a little discolored, or the label has a rip in it or there's stickers/marker on it? If it works, it works. Also maybe I'm weird but I kinda like having carts with someone's name or a sticker...

looking to get a japanese sega saturn. basically, i'm looking for the japanese equivalent of an ebay or a craigslist where people might be selling things they don't know they have. i'm looking for bargains. can anyone point me in the right direction?
pic related, it's dodonpachi. also, sega saturn thread.
>>2866472
Just get a US Saturn and an action replay or GameShark cartridge. You'll save yourself a few Hamiltons. Then if you want the white shell of the Japanese model, buy a parts only system for peanuts and swap shells. Ta da.
>>2866472
>i'm looking for bargains.
Actually go to Japan or deal with internet prices
You'd have to hire a middleman if you used a Japanese auction site so you're not going to be saving any money

actually i am going to japan. i'll probably pick up the saturn there at a hard off or something. i'm just worried i won't find all the games i'm looking for during my visit, so i'm hoping to find them online.
pic related, it's bulk slash
I'm slowly working on becoming an amateur video game historian. Especially for the cartridge era of the North American market. What does VG know about the video game industry?
Newest thing I learned was that Sega almost merged with Namco in the mid to late 90s because both companies we dragging so much ass.
