now that the dust has settled, what do people think of the retron 5?
The wife loves it!
>>2876896
Reported.
Now that the dust has settled I am awaiting my first child. Thank you Retron!
Currently I am very pissed off about Steam. I saw they were offering the 3D Realms Anthology for 10 bucks until the 4th of January. I felt like buying it today and it's just gone. I have a screenshot of the cached steam page and a screenshot of the 3d Realms page which says "get it before the 31st of December 2015 - after that you'll never ever get it again".
So what do I do now? Also: Apogee game thread.
>>2889227
ok...
WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>2889227
You should ask for an apo-lo-gee
>>2889240
underrated post
Which one is more overrated?
>>2878920
both
>>2878920
OoT.
Lots of plebs hate MM for its time system.
Both. But that doesn't mean that they aren't enjoyable games.
If you had to pick your favorite sports games from SNES, which would be your picks for each sport?
>pic really unrelated
JIKKYOU WORLD SOCCER FIGHTING ELEVEN
I own about 60 SNES games and not a single one of them is a sports game. Unless you count racing, which I don't.
>>2893073
Erm... okay?
Why are Mega drive games so cheap, compared to SNES games?
Even with the box and manual, they're very cheap.
>>2891749
They all sucked.
no one wants them, just like my dating life
>>2891754
Probably because you're not as cheap as the Mega Drive.
Sadly, I'm running out of space in my place and having a tube tv as well as led tvs just takes up too much space. I've done a little research with many sources recommending hdmi upscalers. What have you guys got in terms of upscalers, if any? Are there budget options?
For new it's either micomsoft scalers or degrees of varying shit.
>>2891493
Before getting rid of the CRT, consider sample-and-hold blur and what you are going to do about it.
>>2891507
Is the FrameMeister just a preium upscaler? Or are there cheaper options with decent input lag?
So I have a question about adjusting the screws on the back of a CRT television. I was watching this video:
http://youtu.be/yoBqm4ThJxw
And I noticed around the 0:51 mark that they just turn the TV on and turn on the test patterns. Is it safe to adjust the screws without discharging it first?
I'm planing to adjust my CRT's screws if you DON'T have t discharge it first. Pic related is the CRT I have. (Panasonic CT-25L8G)
It's a consumer TV. You'll have shit for adjustment.
>>2891416
I know it won't be as good as say a PVM or trinitron, but it's really all I have.
>>2891447
Well then it's pretty much hope for whatever. Find the service menu.
Messing with the pots on the back without a test pattern isn't going to end well.
Why can't you just use a phoenix down on him? Why is it instant game over if he gets knocked out?
Maybe he's too frail to survive being knocked out in battle.
Of course, Strago's probably older than him, but he has a lot of vitality.
He fucking disappears halfway through the game anyway, and nobody cares.
I would say it's story-gameplay disconnect or whatever the technical phrasing is, but in certain cutscenes in FFV for example, healers will revive characters with HP=0.
>>2891331
It's called ludonarrative dissonance. The term was invented by Clint Hocking, the director of Far Cry 2.
>didn't really expect much from it, kind of a blind buy and to flesh out the collection
>that fun and fast paced gameplay
>that fucking story and the only entry in the franchise to properly meld the whole "scifi and fantasy" in a proper manner
>Claude is the best protagonist ever
>all those excellent optional character bits
Seriously, how is this game not more revered?
It's maybe one...

Star Ocean was like the Tales of of the hipsters. A shame because I liked 1 and Second Story a lot more than Destiny and Eternia.
>>2890723
Star Ocean 1/2 had MUCH better gameplay than the 2D Tales games. More interesting mechanic depth as well.
>>2890706
This game rules, Dias and Ashton all day. Getting royalties for writing novels was cool too
Also barrels
Is this a good deal for an original model PlayStation, or would I be better off finding one at a garage sale or flea market?
>>2890660
great deal imo
If it's really refurbished it's a nice deal. But since it's gamestop I doubt that they even tested it.
$20 is basic ebay price.
Let's recommend each other JP-only retro games!
Chippoke Ralph no Daibouken: The Adventure of Little Ralph is a fantastic side-scrolling action-platformer for the PS1. You play as a young boy armed with nothing but a sword facing off against a horde of cartoon-esque demons and monsters. The levels have thematic variety and an overarching Ghibli-esque art direction which is very pleasant.
The best part is the gameplay. Similar to the Mario or Mega Man games, you are given a very limited arsenal of moves but have to absolutely master them to overcome levels. Whenever you gain points by beating enemies, chains of dangling...

Segare Ijiri for PS1 is a deeply strange Japanese game. You play as a boy with a big, yellow arrow for a head. Your mother is an omniscient giraffe. The game is something of an abstract coming-of-age story as you clear various challenges designed, allegedly, to teach you various life lessons. If you don't speak Japanese that whole aspect would be lost on you, but I suspect it wasn't very clear anyway.
Segare Ijiri is a 3D platformer where physics are regularly disregarded. You make your way through non-Euclidean levels divided into box-like rooms where each...

Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream is a 3D action-platformer with RPG elements for the DreamCast. At its time of release it was touted for being developed by an almost entirely female staff, a rarity in the Japanese industry. It tells the story of a girl whisked away to Napple World, a dimension between the living and the dead; now she must recollect the pieces of her scattered soul to get back home.
Napple Tale features a hub world and four primary sub-worlds with seasonal themes. Though it was touted as an RPG, it's no more of an RPG than, say, Klonoa is, though it...

Do you guys have any incomplete games?
From missing manuals, stupid inserts, or maybe a bonus demo disc/sticker/map/etc? Hell, you may be missing the entire game case/box.
Does it bother you or do you only care about owning the game itself and no more?
I was just reminded of Parasite Eve and I feel like playing it again, but I'm always bothered that my copy didn't have a demo disc. Not gonna complain and cry my eyes out because of it, especially since I got the game for like $10 at a flea market in great condition like 3-4 years ago, but it just annoys me...

I wouldn't be able to deal with something like that. Complete or burst.
I have magic knight rayearth (e) without the manual, but with case and rear art.
Also tales of destiny with manual but no case.
The magic knight manual bugs my a little but I'm not paying out the ass for it.
If it's a cartridge game, I don't give a shit. The box & dox are fine to have, but ultimately it's only the game that matters.
However for disc-based games, there is NO good excuse for missing any part of it, so they must be complete for me.
>tfw one of my few incomplete disc games is Mega Man Legends. (missing the manual)
What are the best Beat em ups on the snes?
You posted it.
Most of them are quite meh, but if you desperately want to play beat'em up on SNES play the Capcom and Konami ones, plus some others like Sonic Blastman 2, Denjin Makai, Kunios and a few other SFC exclusives.
Turtles in Time
MMPR:The Movie is good enough to mention
that's like... it. most SNES beat 'em ups have a maximum of 3 enemies on the screen at once compared to the 5 or so you'll usually see in a game like SoR2 or 3.
What are some fun 2-player 16 bit games?
There's only a few that I'm aware of, mostly puzzle games and fighters
>>2889593
beat em ups.
>>2889609
He said fun, not repetitive and generic.
As long as we're ranking the entries of entire series, what are the best of the Kirby games?
>>2889510
I have yet to play a bad Kirby game. And I have played all of them aside from the Wii titles.
>>2889510
first nes and gameboy titles
1. Kirby's Adventure (NES)
2. Kirby's Dream Land 2 (GB)
3. Kirby 64
The top two are the must plays, 64 is great, and everything else is good/okay but not too special. Not really sure how to rank the other titles in relation to each other.
Kirby's Dream Land 1 was too short and didn't have the trademark powers
Kirby Pinball is a fun game that's frustrating as hell.
The better GBA one is just a remix of Kirby's Adventure, other one is fun but open-world doesn't really suit kirby in my opinion, found...
