Do you consider any fifth generation video games genuinely beautiful?
A lot of them.
Nights and Burning rangers have a very nice style.
Tron Bonne, Spyro, Crash, etc
OoT, MM, or Mario 64.
Yes. If you account for what they managed to achieve with their polygon and texture limitations, they get even more beautiful, and can appreciated a lot more than the HD remakes

Any?
It was crazy time. What used to be drawn, almost everything went pre-rendered. I don't like this time, but it's history now, we aren't going to see those CGIs once more.
Chrono Cross Anyone? Lovely story as well as a 10/10 soundtrack.
The story was a convoluted mess, and the translation didn't help any. The soundtrack was fairly good, and had some great ambient and orchestral themes. The game has a lot of rough edges, but I nonetheless liked it, and still replay it from time to time.
The setting had a great atmosphere, but a lot of the cast felt really out of place. Most of the recruitable characters were walking stereotypes with cheesy accents, and they embodied cultures that don't even exist in the Chrono Trigger / Chrono Cross world. French clowns? Greek wrestlers? Goth dudes? Lolitas? Just where did all these wacky characters come from? CT's world was much more homogenous than that.
I don't understand why people like Cross's OST. It is generic as hell. Trigger, in my opinion, had much better music.

>the translation didn't help any
The translation was faithful, overseen by the writer, and made the story ten times more understandable and coherent than the Japanese script.
Resident Evil 2 for N64 is awesome. The new C and D control profiles make the game so much more enjoyable.
>N64 version of anything being the best one
The only good thing about the N64 version is the item randomizer mode.

Why is this game treated like it was brought down from the heavens. I recently played this game for 5 hours and i hated it. I just can't see the hype behind this game.
You just hate games.
>>2915196
I love games. I tried to love this game, but i just couldn't. Hated the combat and the puzzles. I did however think the story was decent.
Same happened to me with other sacred cows like Half-Life.
The game is just not for you OP, you don't need to like every single popular or acclaimed game, once you learn that and accept it, you will get angry less often and make less shitty threads like this.
Alright, fuck it. I've been stuck on where to use the bottomless pot for about 4 days now. I talked to the horse and he said to use it in the shallows to the west and it still won't work when I use it in what I assume is the area he's talking about. Can someone point me in the right direction?
As a side note the game has been a lot more fun than the original and II
If you dick around the ocean between the two big continents you'll come across a big pile of rocks that looks like pic related. Use it there. It should be just about directly south of the tiny strait where the two landmasses almost meet.

Thanks anon
How badly do I need to play this game?
>>2926889
Idk but this looks bad ass as fuck
>>2926908
It's Dragon Force for the Saturn, anon.
>>2926889
Its addicting and a good RPG for the Saturn. Thought Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III, or Grandia are the more popular choices
hey /vr/others , know any good dos/win games that don't require mouse ?

You can play doom with keyboard aiming. Or a bunch of roguelikes if you're looking for plenty of depth

Retro: Captain Comic
Arguably retro: NetHack
Any of the early Sierra adventures that used the AGI game engine. Also pinball games.
Can anyone tell me a fair price for a Sega CD? I have been hunting for a little over a week, and all the ebay listings I try to bid on become so over priced. I have also hunted around my city, but haven't found one place that has a working unit. It's starting to become very frustrating. My best friends came together and bought me Snatcher for my 30th birthday. I'm dying to play it on the original hardware.
You might be able to find one that doesn't turn on for cheap, just needs a quick picp fuse replacement
Wow OP, nice gift.
Ebay seems resolute about 100 bucks. I got really lucky a few weeks ago and got the whole shebang (Gen/CD/32X) for 105. If you know any stores around you with competitive pricing then get in touch with them, maybe they can hook you up.
Also I might recommend getting some CD-Rs, they're a real help with SCD.

Contradictory post is contradictory.

I don't play Fallout 2. Can someone explain what he is doing wrong?
You can just avoid the fight by stealing the key from the guy. Talking your way out can also work if you're character is build that way.
Fighting only really works when you've specialized in unarmed or melee and even then you shouldn't do aimed attacks.
The temple of trials isn't great design but you won't have trouble if you don't play like a retard.
>>2922986
Well, he's aiming at the head with a 22% chance to hit and seems incapable of doing anything else.
He's doing everything wrong.
>>2922986
There are at least 4 ways I can think of right now to get past that part. He's a boneheaded moron who went full DSP trying to do the same thing over and over again and not learning anything from his mistakes.
Are these any good? They're like 40 dollars each, so I want to make sure they're good before I go and buy them.
At first, I wanted to buy an SNES, but then I realized I wouldn't be able to afford the games. After that, it was an SFC, but once again, the games are too expensive (they're cheap in-store, but I don't live in Japan, unfortunately)
If they're not good, I guess I'll just get an SFC.
Thanks in advance.
I got the Buffalo SNES pad for like $12 and have no complaints, but then again I've only had it for 6 months. Either way, I imagine the SFC controller would work great.
>>2921173
SFC controllers are not 40 bucks, what are you talking about?
And the colored buttons are cool, but honestly I prefer the regular american controller. Why? Because the jap version has a cord that's like 1 foot long. So when I play my SFC, I have to either sit really close or pull the console out from under the TV stand.
Just pirate
This weekend I went to a big Arcade show with 500+ pinball machines, and it was fucking amazing. Every era of the game from the 60s onward was well represented, and everything was in great shape.
Talk about your favorite pinball machines, and if the thread is popular, i'll share some more pictures I took.
Sounds awesome
I've had this pinball machine in my basement for nearly 17 years now, it's still absolutely amazing (not to mention you get to solve a murder mystery while playing it).
>>2927362
Who Dunnit was there, although I didn't get a chance to play it this year. They had nearly all of the 90's WMS games, and they were the most popular.
Ever since I was a young man, I played the silver ball...
Games considered mediocre that you enjoyed immensely. I'll start with pic related
It's the kind of idea I'd like to see some dev reusing nowadays, I still like the original though, boxing all the way.
>>2923058
I like this games and its sequels (Runabout 2 and Super Runabout Dreamcast)
Finally bagged myself a Saturn and this game and hot damn I've been missing out. After I got past the initial "oh god what is happening" stage of figuring out how to play, I think I fell in love. Everything about this game is so unique and has that 90s Sega flavour in spades, from the satisfying sound effects when you fly through ring after ring to the gorgeous soundtrack. Really makes me yearn for when Sega were back in their prime.
The saturn's draw distance leaves something to be desired but this is easily one of Sega's best.
How does /vr/...

It's better than all the Sonic games (put together even)
One of the better game from 5th gen.
Best Christmas game made.

I have question about hooking up a Famicom to a digital TV. I know that the unit cannot be connected directly to the TV, but to an analog proxy such as a VCR. My problem is my room is really small, so I don't have the room to place an enormous VCR deck among all my game systems. Is there anything else smaller than a VCR that I can use to connect the RF switch to?
>>2927353
Try a smaller vcr.
>>2927353
Yeah, an RF demodulator (note, NOT a modulator) Be aware that they tend to be rather uncheap.
Or you could get your hands on an RF2703 chip and build a circuit around it. Cheap but time consuming / impossible depending on your power level.
>>2927395
this. All forms available. Plus a VCR and tapes are quite retro themselves, it adds to the feel ..
Recommend some god teir dungeon crawlers. Bonus points for being in first person.
Shadow Tower
start with that one first
