Favorite classic arcade game?
Ummmmmmm I like PAC-man
When do you consider a looping game "beaten"? I don't mean reaching the kill screen or counter stopping, when have you had enough?
Robotron 2084 and Tempest
I can get either of these tomorrow. Make your arguments for either (note that I am not asking for a decision to be made for me, I ain't do that shit).
Actually want to talk about Link to the Past for a bit. Is it worth getting, as a Zelda fan, in this present-day, when I own the N64 remakes and Link Between Worlds (arguably the best Zeldas all in my hand right there). I've honestly only ever gotten to the first Dark World dungeon as a kid. Would completing it now be a fulfilling experience, you think?
Also general vs. thread. Go.I also swear...

i dont know what the fuck you're babbling about but i'd just get both if possible, castlevania is excellent but if you don't have zelda it's a must
>>3004190
I would get castlevania. Try something different.
Well isn't the castlevania cart literally 5 times as much as the Zelda cart?
Choice seems pretty obvious to me.
However, if you don't care about that I highly suggest getting and finishing lttp anyways. Hell, just get both of youre already willing to plop down the dough in castlevania
Adventure Island thread.

First one is hard as fuck
II was always my favorite

2nd one was pure casual tier.
The first one had the timer that was unforgivingand the fucking purple eggplant
>game designed for keyboard and mouse
>it's surprisingly more fun on console
That's because you move with the dpad, but I heard something about the item drops in this game was fundamentally broken.
What other unlikely console ports are there? I know Red Alert and Warcraft 2 have PS1 ports but never tried them.
>Diablo on Playstation better than on PC
Now I've literally heard everything
Do you like single player modes in fightan games? I'm absolutely addicted to the survival modes in SFA 3
I love arcades in Street Fighter games, they are fun and addicting and great time killers
I can't wait to pick up SFV and play arcade mode for hours.
Who the fuck plays fighting games for single player content anyway?
Yeah, I always have a good time playing SF2 since the beginning, the game still great and I feel like when I was a kid as it was my first videogame, except now I can play it properly.

>I can't wait to pick up SFV and play arcade mode for hours
A-anon, I...
I've always had the feeling that the userbase here is older on average compared to the other boards, but just how long have you guys been playing vidya?

To keep the thread fun feel free to post shit like the age you were when you got your first system or just some of your favorite memories from back in the day.

Born in '88. First consoles were an Atari 5200 (I think it was a 5200) and an NES. Not sure which one I had first since I was pretty young.
Born in 90. Been playing as long as I can remember. We had a Genesis and NES in the house since I was born.
91 here. First System was Genesis.
I finally beat this motherfucker today. Never played another Castlevania, are they all as hair-tearingly difficult as this one? Literally hurt myself shouting in victory when I finally got him.
At least they let you continue from the room before the battle. I was going to give up completely if I had to do the last castle bit another fucking time.
>>3003306
Congrats. Took me some years to beat that bastard myself. Feels fucking glorious, doesn't it.
3 is even harder.
>>3003317
>3 is even harder.
Depends on which routes and partners you take with you.
The actual hardest Classicvania is completing all 6 loops of CV68K.
>>3003306
Congratulations.
Impressive.
Everyone pisses their pants talking about SNES and Genesis. Lets talk about the superior console of that generation, the Neo-Geo AES and its arcade counter part the MVS.

>framemeister
My nigga
>>3003279
They were honestly pretty obscure, at least in the States. I didn't learn about the TG16 until years after its death, and I didn't know about the AES and MVS until I started browsing /vr/ (I knew about the NGPC though).
SNK had some of the best ads.
Lost games.
Sucked dick.
I'm glad it's lost.
>>3003167
cannot even find a gameplay video
what is this?

It seems to be the third installment of a creepy adventure games saga.

Thinking of buying a nice little 2.1 setup for my games, but I'm not sure if the sound quality on old systems is even worth spending money on.
Will SNES games in particular benefit from the added subwoofer?
Sounds systems in general are a pretty worthwhile investment in my opinion. Good ones tend to hold up, the technology doesn't really change that much and so they tend to be good for a long time, and really most things get some benefit from it.
Unless you like a particularly compressed sound that weaker speakers supply then you're never going to really lose something from getting reasonable speakers, everything will sound as good or better.
I don't think you'll get too much from older games from the subwoofer, but how much are you looking to...

It's strictly for my retro station, to replace my pvm's mono audio. SNES is original hardware, everything else (from mame up to gamecube) is emulated if that has any effect on sound.
Was hoping to spend around $100 bit I don't even know if it's possible to get decent speakers for that much, let alone a sub
I actually thing snes benefits the most from added Treeble effects to fix the muffled samples, but this is just my personal preference.
Anyone?

Constantly dying: the adventure game.

Trying to bump a thread after three minutes is incredibly ignorant.

My friends, do I use the GC gameboy player, or super gameboy? And why?
Best way to GB is with a SGB/SGB2 and that funky SGB controller.
For GBA,____________________________not retro
The GC Gameboy player is shit, so, don't use that.
Emulation is the obvious answer. Tons of extra features and options.
ePSXe 2.0 is out

>Android SOFT GPU
>Needs OpenGL + shaders
Yeah, that's not gonna work with my old PCs that don't support GPU shaders. Certainly won't work with muh china tablet. WTF make a Software video driver that actually needs a dedicated real GPU? Is Pete autistic?!?
Fuck off. Tell me when there's good news.

Considering this board goes up to 5th gen (and Dreamcast), do you guys consider that the last great gen? Just curious.
It's the only great gen
>>3002178
5th gen was an abysmal and awkward "middle stage" for video games.
Most of the generation's killer apps have aged like fine milk.
It made crucial, essential, and genre defining steps for 3D gaming, but it's not pretty to look back on the way 3rd Gen and 4th Gen are.
