Agony isn't that bad, and the intro music was awesome (dimmu borgir rip of that song)
>You will run out of retrogames in your lifetime
Only if people stop making videogames.
You must have a lot more free time than I do. Fuck, I was just looking at ONLY the ExoDOS RPG collection musing on how even if I live to be 120 I'll die without ever even seriously playing most video games, let alone completing them.
Then I started contemplating if there was more virtual space within video games than there is actual space in the world/universe when including grand-scope space games.
Then I smoked a blunt.
I actually did the math and there's more stuff that I'm interested in then I have free time left to play.
How many of you play old games exclusively? Recently, I just can't bring myself to play new games. I just can't bring myself to invest in getting new consoles/upgrading my pc and buying games now that i'm saving up to move out, but even if I had the money, I'm not sure I would.
Do you stick to retro games exclusively?
Yep, there should be a rule where if a person is found playing things newer than 1999 he should be perma-banned.
Nah lately I've gotten pretty into PS3 it's way cheaper than buying retro games
I do play my retro games though. Sometimes for nostalgia sometimes for convenience (pocket emulation) and sometimes just because I'm in the mood for something I missed out on back in the day.
>>3113247
It depends on what you mean.
I don't exclusively play /vr/ games, but I don't keep up with the newest trends like /v/ does.
I'm somewhere in between. I'll buy whatever looks interesting for the systems I already own.
Would you play it?
No. LSD is a dumb game.
>>3113228
ur a dumb game
Sure. Turning is already slow as shit so why not? Would probably even be fine on Google Cardboard.
On a related note, true 3D emulators for Playstation and N64 when?
Hey guys I don't know if this is the correct board to post this but here goes anyway.
>started playing ff8 in classicboy emulator
>fmv lunar cry freeze (known bug)
>google says I can pass through it by skipping a frame in epsxe emulator
>Question: how do I transfer the save file (.sta) to epsxe (.mcr)
Game is .bin
Bump
This is why you just. don't. emulate.
Playing Pic related ....
Is Wolf 3D for GBA true to the original? The movement feels very stiff. Did Wolf 3D not have momentum like Doom did?
The Doom port for the GBA maintained the original's sense of momentum, because it was a port of the original doom engine.
Doom 2 for the GBA had stiff movement and no momentum, because it was a ground-up reworking based around the GBA exclusive Southpaw engine.
What about Wolf 3D? Am I wasting my time?
>>3112752
No music keeps it from being a good port.
>>3112756
which is odd because the Manual says there's music
>>3112865
Only during the menus and such, but not during the gameplay.
I'm curious about "unbeatable" enemies or games in retro video games. I'm sure a lot of us at some point in time have called something very difficult unbeatable, but what things out there were truly impossible to achieve victory against either due to glitches or game design?
>>3112519
Battletoads' 2-player if I recall.
>>3112523
How so? My cousin and I never got very far on it, though I did finally manage to win alone.
>>3112531
You just answered your own question tiger.
ITT: mediocre games with awesome graphics, sound and art design that make them worth a play.
So basically retro modern games.
>>3112490
That's the psygnosis owl, isn't it?
>>3112490
> So basically retro modern games.
I dunno what are you talking about, so take Kirby's Dream Land 3.
>>3112513
He's a /v/astard who thinks that literally every modern game is shit, but when pressed on what games he's played, he goes silent or enters rage mode.
And when asked to prove his achievement progress, he either "forgot his account" or "doesn't play online so he doesn't get achievements" or they're "bugged".
Just finished Lunar: The Silver Star.
Holy shit that game was really fucking good. It's a travesty I never played it as a kid cause back then I thought RPGs were ghey.
Any other good Sega CD games that I should check out?
You should play the sequel, Lunar: Eternal Blue. It's even better.
Never been a fan of traditional RPGs. Still not. Game has great music and visuals though.
>Any other good Sega CD games that I should check out?
Pretty much the standard 5 or so games are all that's worth playing.
>>3112389
Planning to do so, but I think I would have to download it. The Sequel is a bit expensive. I was able to get Silver Star by a struck of luck were some Mexican at a flea market had it for 10 bucks. Good thing the Sega CD has no copy protection!
What are your opinions on Sega Ages 2500?
What are more any good /vr/ complitations for PS2 and other platforms?
the Namco Museum series for PS1
Someone just watched Game Sack.

Why would you pay for roms and kusoge tier remakes when you can have the real thing.
>decide to play quake on nightmare
>"this is not so bad"
>more than one of these motherfuckers show up
Quake Guy is fast for a reason. Use it.
I think it's disappointing how the movement speed of enemies isn't affected by Nightmare. Melee-only enemies behave the same.
Shamblers actually become easier to fight in Nightmare too. They used to be a threat because they can close in on a player taking cover from their ranged attacks, but since their ranged attack rate becomes so high in Nightmare, a player can easily lock them in place.
Ogres are not that bad, you quickly learn the rhythm of the grenades and dodge accordingly. Fucking shamblers, though.

I'm trying to find more footage of Super Castlevania in it's alpha stages. I remember a video of Simon walking down an empty corridor hitting some enemies and doing some other stuff but I can't really find it.
just felt like sharing as all

tl;dr: I want (to write) a ROM manager that allows you to keep one set of unique files and let you rename between different sets conventions (GoodSets, No-Intro, etc) and give you stats about how complete is your set in each of these collections.
This one is for the digital retro gaming collection enthusiasts (ROM hoarders).
When it comes to playing old games in emulators and etc, people tend to approach it in several different ways.
Some folks just search for their game, get the ROM and play.
Lots of other folks likes to grab the entire game collections...

It will probably have low demand, but if people realize how useful it is it could become one of those apps that everyone recommends to someone who wants to get into emulation and take off from there. I don't personally need it since I have a lot of GoodSets full of games I'll never play anyway, and if I'm missing a game I'll probably download it individually, but it could definitely be useful.
Are you gonna make one that works with every cartridge-based console?
Yes, the idea was to support the whole set of systems with popular collections out there, pretty much like all the popular ROM managers does (by using DATs with set information or something like that). It would definitely be open source, also.
I also have lots and lots of games I will never play, but the idea struck me when I wen into the HyperSpin world (a very beautiful-to-look-at emulation front-end) and realized they tend to create their HyperSpin's XML out of No-Intro collections - and I was always a GoodSets guy, so I started collecting the No-intro sets from...

>How come no one ever
Because most people download complete sets and know exactly what they have. No one cares what a few kids who download muhrio games one by one need.
King's Field Thread?
After playing a bit of Dark Souls I decided to check out the original Japanese only release. When you start out it's a bit confusing, but once you get going the game books it at a rapid pace. I'm already on the third dungeon and I can't wait to finish up and go onto the second game.
What of you /vr/? Have you played King's Field? What did you think of it? Any games like it you'd recommend?
>>3110973
LoL yeah we've played King's Field. How are you liking those controls? Slow enough for you? I personally catch a lot of grief for this opinion but King's Field and its bros Shadow Tower (best) and Echo Night are all much better when played on an emulator than on real hardware so you can remap controls and overclock. Made a big difference for me and I had seriously attempted to get into them back in the day.
Aside from those two other series I mentioned that use the same engine you should really...

I actually don't mind them too much. I did use Xpadder to map the analog sticks to what would be considered standard FPS controls though. Would have used the in emulator mapper, but didn't feel like juggling controls for other games.
Not having a run button kind of sucks, but the dungeons and game don't seem particularly long so it's not so bad. Also, apparently it's in the next game. First game I tried a long time ago was the fourth game, so I know it gets considerably slower as...

i tried playing this game for the first time recently
honestly it just feels like a worse ultima underworld
Just got it on humble bundle and liked it. What do you think of it /vr/?
Try the arcade version, it's better. Although I don't like GG very much, it's one of those unique games that people never copied enough (or at all). The lives system is very unique.
I've only ever played the genesis port, but I love it, honestly. Very unique game, and it was really cool to see all the different characters and find the best ways to use their unique weapons.
I think the pc engine version is the definitive version, something about they made your units move faster relative to the vertical screen resolution or whatever.
