I'm a bit overwhelmed by the amount of freedom and fiddly bits. Any tips for a newbie? How easy is it to completely fuck yourself over?
I'm playing 1.12, since 1.13 adds even more options and items and complexities.

>I'm a bit overwhelmed by the amount of freedom and fiddly bits. Any tips for a newbie?
-it's better to train up shit mercs (they only increase in price slightly as they get more skilled) than to pay for the best.
-having said that you may want to pick your initial mercs just for their gear alone as good stuff won't be available for a long time, same with ammo.
-from what I remember of 1.12 you'll probably be shooting .38 det. specials at enemies until...

Oh god, how unfair can something get? A team of six scrubs with two MP5s, a busted-ass Thompson and assorted pistols versus about sixty goons plus another twenty elites loaded up on a mix of utter crap plus a few shit-wrecking surprises and coming from three directions at the same time. Once it's over it's a real loot parade though.
As far as hints, always use first aid kits to heal first, save medic bags for healing.

Does Goodwill even carry in store video game items anymore? I haven't seen a video game cartridge there in over three years. Have they caught on and just stick them all to auctions?
>>3136893
Yep. The auctions aren't been fun to bid on either because it's all overpriced. A real shame
>not emulating
wow you sure r 1 huge fagit
>>3136893
they created their own game store along with the auction site
so the place is basically dead to game hunters
Why is it so hard to die in this game?
>you don't actually take damage when you get hit
>if you miss a jump you can just flutter past it
>bosses all basically sit there looking cool and handing you ammo to kill them with instead of attacking you
>>3134419
Land on spikes.
I have yet to find one likeable thing about this game.
>>3134419
Then you get to the final world and it's lava, pits and 1-ko spikes everywhere.

What's her name, /vr/?
>>3138809
None because video games are either badly over written or comfortably under written
I play games to play, not to watch.
>>3138809
You might be able to get an interesting movie or something out of Illusion of Gaia simply because of the reversal where light is a force of evil and darkness is the force of good.
Anyway, I also think Rockin' Kats would be good fodder for a Saturday morning cartoon show.
>>3138809
Considering the original translation was censored as fuck, an animation would've been hammered pretty hard upon coming to the states. If it even did.
Post worst retro computers
The Apple III
>lets take everything that was good about the Apple II line and fuck it up
>hey, Steve Jobs says cooling fans are too noisy, let's just cast the base of the computer out of thick metal to act as a heatsink
>well shit that didn't work at all! Plugs pop out of their sockets due to heat expansion
>try lifting it and dropping it and see if the impact makes chips and boards reconnect again
They eventually fixed the worst problems, but JESUS
The problem with Steve Jobs is that he always believed computers should be turnkey appliances similar to a microwave or a toaster. He was even against putting expansion slots in the Apple II.

Underrated Video Game Tracks
Post vidya songs that are more obscure and/or under-appreciated.
If you post a song, you MUST listen to someone else's posted song, and leave them a comment with your thoughts about the track.
Keep it retro.

It may sound a bit shitty, but I like that baroque melody at around 0:36, gets me everytime.

It tallies that Shadow Warrior beats Blood and Blood beats Shadow Warrior
Tbh the other games got nothing on Blood in terms of the combat experience. The one thing Blood does better than any other retro (sprite based) game is the shit that goes on in combat. Unloading both barrels at close range into a zombie while crouching down blasts it away. You can throw a dynamite stick into a room full of enemies then retreat and watch as corpses and bloody chunks get blasted out the doorway. Alt firing the flare gun into a pack of zombies and watching them flail around as they burn and explode into charred bloody chunks is so satisfying. Duke 3d and shadow...

Oh, and art is super appreciated. Here's one I hadn't seen before of the Hero's home in DQ4.

DAMN YOU
I think I'm going to get theAndroidversion of DQ4. DQ5's party chat on the DS was too great, and now I don't want to play a version of DQ4 that doesn't have it.
What were they THINKING? This is a disaster.

whats the point of buying original cartridges when there is stuff like pic related. the games play the same and besides a handful of games that dont work you can basically play every game there is for just 80€.
should have bought a flashcard sooner. its a pity that emulators are still a mess otherwise I would use one.
prices for retro games, especially nintendo ones are fucked beyond repair.
thanks
>>3134076
The only reason I buy old physical games at all is to own the games I wanted as a child, but didn't.
I would rather emulate otherwise. Most of the games that are worth playing are very playable in emulators.
>>3134076
The point is that I grew up with real carts and real booklets in real cases, not an sd card with primitive game selector menu that turns the console into a 1000-in-1 famiclone.
I want to play these old games the way I remember them, which involves taking a cart out of the box with gorgeous artwork, putting it in the console, powering it on. Maybe read the manual if I get stuck or can't figure out how to play the game - or if I can figure it out but want to read more, in case there's something I missed.
>>3134104
I did too but u cant tell me its reasonable to buy snes games for 100-150+€ nowadays, because thats what the good ones usually are worth if you can just spend half of the money of a good game and play them all.
dont get me wrong I used to collect myself and I thought like you but I recently sold my collection for a retarded amount and that shit opened my eyes regarding collecting games.
fuck the whole collector price bubble, that shit is whack.

Have been watching a lot of MyLifeInGaming lately.
Is the Framemeister worth it? 300$ is pretty hefty, but it seems like a really great piece of equipment.
not sure, I'm betting either there's going to be a replacement/upgrade soon or the ossc will knock it down

>>3138712
There's barely any input lag.
