Just got this game, about 45 minutes in by now.
God damn, could the cutscenes be any longer?
This being said, while not exactly what I'd call graphically impressive, and the N64 has seen better cameras, the combat system works pretty well thus far, and the game has the atmosphere down pat. The soundtrack's still a bit underwhelming, but OTOH, I only just started to fight enemies I couldn't take down with my defusor. I reckon it's still effectively the tutorial, we'll see what comes later.
Though I have no fucking idea what's...
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
never heard
what's it like?
>>3189627
I heard it's like the N64's answer to MGS.

oh shit nigga this does look good
adding this to my backlog ty
So I've been going crazy trying to find out if this is real or if I'm going crazy. I remember having this plug n play console when I was a kid. It was based around lightguns, it had a red and blue one. I remember the gameplay being point blank esque, perhaps even being point blank branded. I also remember the console itself being small and rectangular. The guns plugged in with round plug ins, like ps/2 looking connectors I think. Hope someone knows what I'm talking about because I can't find anything.
Pic unrelated but is what got me on this kick
>>3189495
Might help to know when you were a kid. Justifiers come in red and blue...
>>3189592
I was born in 93 and I was quite young, was around the time psx and n64 were still going strong. Definitely wasn't lethal enforcers.
>>3189608
What country were you living in?
Do old Java/J2ME cell phone games count as retro? They really don't seem like a thing anymore now that almost everybody's got smartphones.
>>3189364
EDGE was also great game.
I think if i can dig up my old phone it should still be on it.
Bubble bobble port deserves mention.
Bumping out of interest
Kinda sad that a lot of those pre smart phone games are lost like tears in rain,
But then I remember how most of them were shit, only really remember playing saints row, was a pretty shitty GTA clone

The way I see it, both mobile games and plug-n-play TV games have yet to be properly archived for some reason. It's like nobody really cares about them enough to save them.
What's your favorite stage in this timeless master piece?
every single one of them. it's awesome from start to finish.
but fuck that circular boss. it fucks me up every time.
>>3189047
The stage where you talk about it to piss of manpanties shmupfan69 and we all get to read the same exact posts again. Oddly similar to looping one of these pointless as fuck games.

Is Symphony of the Night worth playing? I finished Super Metroid and heard these two are the godfathers of platforming.
I know it's not VR but it will be 20 years soon
No, it's easy peasy casual garbage that killed the franchise. Avoid it like the plague.
>>3189001
So which Castlevania is worth playing? Rondo of Blood?
>>3189004
Castlevania 2 on NES. People who complain about it are millenial AVGN meme spouiting shitters who couldn't git gud.
What's you favorite Sonic spin-off game?
>>3188649
I know it's not all that popular, but I really like Spinball. More than any of the normal sonic games, and most pinball games. It hits a fun middle ground I find a lot of fun.
Ive always wondered why the capacitors in Sega Game Gears break so easly
It makes me worried for other handhelds with capacitors in them
Do they break easly too?
>>3188287
Capacitors degrade at a fairly predictable rate. The reason the Game Gear degrades more quickly when compared to something like, say the gameboy, is because the color screen requires higher voltages, which when stored in the capacitor degrade the chemical composition more quickly. This leads to them leaking, which erodes the contacts.
tl;dr: no, game gear capacitors degrade more quickly then other handhelds of the era.
>>3188302
There's also the fact that the company Sega bought capacitors from had production problems, so it wasn't unusual to get a Game Gear where the capacitors degrade at a rapidly accelerated rate.
>>3188287
during the 90's Chinese companies were using cheap ass capacitors in electronics that weren't up to snuff. there was a class action lawsuit about it. then after that class action lawsuit started up it was revealed all sorts of other shit the Chinese cut corners on started coming out.
After playing Oath in Felghana for a while I decided to try out the first two Ys games. I heard that the Turbo Grafx versions were the best so I got an emulator up and running and HOLY FUCKING SHIT THE SOUNDTRACK IS SO GOOD!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38dR1YYulio&index=2&list=PL4DA8D77832E5F7C4
This game has more aesthetic than any JRPG I've ever played.
Damn. that was a pretty easy first boss fight.
Ys 1&2 have amazing soundtracks. As far as gameplay goes Ys 1 doesn't hold up too well but Ys 2 is still great.
>>3188134
what makes Ys II so much better?
I played this on a whim and it has quicky becomes one of my favorite arcade games of all time.
Any retro games you haven't played until recently that you now consider all-time favorites?
Pitfall 2 Arcade by Sega. It's a thing that exists, heaps better than the console versions.
>>3188015
Try Crack Down, also on the System 24 board, if you liked Gain Ground.
Shining Force 2
the game randomly popped into my head a week ago when I was thinking of something to play and it's pretty great so far
Did anyone else fall for this meme? Is it really truly dead?
>>3187906
Possibly one of the saddest gaming failures of all time. To think it looked so promising at the time ...
Not retro.
>>3187906
Yes. Many fools did. I, however, did not. Didn't feel like paying a $150 premium for a dingoo clone.
Wow, Nintendo weren't kidding when they said Playstation was for lonely basement-dwellers while N64 was great to play with buddies.
>>3187736
Am I supposed to be butt bothered by a list which does not even include Crash frigging Team Racing as a valid title? That's also missing tons of other games including Japanese exclusives. Please look for better sites.
Please don't stoke the flames of righteous autism here. We like a nice, quiet board
I don't have friends, so why should I care?
>tfw bought Sparkster on the SNES for like 10 bucks back in the day
>tfw now it's at 94 and rising
Holy fucking shit!
*95
Wow! Not even a hundred bucks.
