Garage sale/Flea Market/Thrift store pickups/hauls.
Post em here, because it's that's time of year!
Sun is shining, people putting up signs, and mothers getting rid of their sons video games.
Went to a local thrift where I rarely find games and say a fucked up Dreamcast for $5 along with an assortment of controllers.
Ended up finding a bunch of NES/SNES/N64/Genesis games. Many of them were beat up, sport games, or games I already owned, but ended up with pic related for $6.
I've definitely had better days, but it's nice getting decent games for cheap.
found this last weekend. I don't know if I should sell it for more retro or sit on it and see if the value appreciates.
I hadn't had a decent retro find in months until a couple of weeks ago when I scored this lot for $20. Maybe I'll get lucky at the flea market again tomorrow.
Found an import of Chocobo's Dungeon 2 with a handwritten note inside for progressions, can't read any of the kanji but got it for $10
I haven't seen the pinball thread here for awhile.
This is the lineup at my local arcade
>Creature from the Black Lagoon
>Iron Man
>Funhouse
>Theater of Magic
>Whirlwind
>Pinbot
>The Walking Dead
>Star Trek: The Next Generation
Creature and Trek were just added yesterday, and Creature is probably...

Ghostbusters looks like it's going to be a pretty rockin' 90s pinball. Trudeau game like Judge Dredd. Actual interactive toys and a subway. Hand-drawn art.
EXTERMINATE THE DOCTOR
>>3111398
Hard to be the best pinball of the '90s when you've got lightning flippers.
I wasn't sure exactly what it was that turned me off of old RPGs at first, but then after playing Dragon Quest 1 and finishing it vs playing Dragon Quest 3 and burning out I realized.
I fucking HATE fighting more than 1 enemy at a time.
Multiple enemies becomes a fucking slog. 1 enemy is the perfect number.
What are other RPGs that only have 1 enemy at a time besides DQ1?
Granstream Saga nigga
Hybrid Heaven
Ain't Thousand Arms like that? Haven't actually gotten very far on it, not sure.

do you happen to know of anything on NES/SNES or anything from that era? Handheld is also fine.
Let's discuss Squaresoft games other than Final Fantasy. Nothing against FF, but FF threads are a dime a dozen.
I just beat pic related last night and liked it quite a bit, though I thought the battle system could have used some work. How does the sequel compare?
Xenogears was Squaresoft IIRC. Xenogears was good, second disc a bit less maybe but still good.
>>3192585
>How does the sequel compare?
Basically it's a completely different game, which is the way sequels should be.
The sequel is almost completely different. You know, the way sequels used to be.
What are some good 4-person N64 games?
Having some people over and I figured we could play N64 games (or PS2 or whatever, really) instead of just drinking and watching netflix until we get bored and disband.
Mario Kart and Mario Party have already been vetoed.
>>3192575
Smash Bros
WWF No Mercy
NFL Blitz 2000
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey 98
New Tetris
Mario Tennis
Gauntlet Legends
Bomberman 64
Looking to play Epica Stella/Vanguard Bandits with the English script and the JP audio, just to mix things up. Has anyone seen or heard of a pre undubbed iso? I don't want to put in the effort to replace the audio like an amateur if I don't have to.
>>3192564
>pre undubbed iso
But there isn't any voice acting in the Japanese version, and only the final battle has voice acting in the English version.
>>3192564
This sounds like one of the dumbest things I've seen.
You should probably consider killing yaself.
Whats the best DC emulator? I tried chankast and dreaemu but only got nulldc working... Which one do you guys use?
Well, the first two you listed are old ass garbage.
Acceptable solutions are: reicast, NullDC, and DEmul.
>>3191769
thanks, deuml looks good.
>>3191818
Be sure to download version 0.7 alpha, NOT the one from the official site.
My dad will have his birthday soon, and I don't know what to buy him.
Recently he has been getting back into video games. Behind the office building he owns he built and turned a shack into a little arcade cave to play his favorite light gun games on MAME and PS2.
I was thinking of buying him something related to arcade emulation or light gun games. Like a controller or another piece of equipment. But he already has lots of stuff because he is a rich fuck. So I dunno.
Does /vr/ have any recommendations?
>>3191656
Buying something related to someones hobby is usually a mistake. If you're not into it as well and don;t know what he has/doesn't have/wants/doesn't want it's a guaranteed mistake.
Is he just into gun games or other things as well? What kind of setup does he have? Cab? RGB? Current guns?
I don't know man, you can never have too many extra controllers.

My wife disagrees. Not that it matters.
castlevanie thread
>>3191289
Great games
Fuck this gay board.
>Three Castlevania threads
>No Earthbound threads
Has Castlevania become the new Earthbound?
Say a stupid asshole was patient enough to stream jRPGs for someone not patient enough to play them, but also didn't want them to be insanely grindy (can give leeway with a fastforward option, either through emulation or in-game like Wizardry). Say they wanted to do it like a variety show with only about an hour-long burst for maybe 3 games at a time. Say anything up until about PS1 was fair game, what games would you recommend and what games would you avoid?
Figured Chrono Trigger and Live-A-Live would be alright, Earthbound and SMT are right out for taking fucking...

Honestly if you look at a guide for CT, you can easily beat the game in about 15 hours.
>>3191053
Ah, misread your post.
Anyway I'd recommend Secret of Mana, it's not too long.
I'd recommend you take your underage ass back to somewhere else and try and be fucking creative you stupid mong.
It's all up to you to make a Genesis image OP

Some of those aren't obscure
ITT: unsettling games that aren't meant to be scary
Anyone else creeped out by this game as a child? I was horrified of Mr. Green's game over pose/face
>>3190171
Your mom was creeped out by my penis.
>>3190181
not retro
>>3190171
I legit got creeped out by this game. My friend rented it and I had nightmares about the scene where they show the killer off-screen murdering the guy. Particularly with the rope.. it was creepy for sure
What are some retro games that were ahead of their time graphically by using almost never seen before techniques?
Picture related was certainly interesting. Characters had bump maps, but it was all done in software.
Magic Carpet had wavy water, reflective water, and realtime terrain deformation. Somehow it even ran on the PS1.

>>3189904
Wasn't terrain made from voxels as well?
>>3190147
I wonder if Mechner ever is sad that the only game of his to be real popular was not THAT innovative - Prince of Persia - when his really innovative and mindlowing stuff - Karateka, Magic Carpet and Murder on the Orient Express - is almost forgotten?
What do you think of this revelation?
What is objectively the best D-pad style?
Cross (Nintendo Game and Watch)
Round (Mattel Intellivision)
Separated (Commodore CDTV)
Other (?)
With the separated style D-pad I never input diagonals accidently but when I do want them I have to press hard to get them.
Invented =/= innovated
I really wish underage& under obamacore wasn't so dumb.
Also Saturn.
>>3189778
Damnit, I wish I was able to buy a CDTV in the 90s, always wanted to grab one and I heard they were getting rid of the stock for 10-20 pounds a piece.
Now it costs 300 pounds for a complete unit.
As far as desktop CD players go, it was a damn sexy one.
Separated d-pads hurt my thumb and I hate it.
How does /vr/ feel about Yoshi's Story?
The start of the decline of Yoshi games
It was ok but nowhere near as good as Yoshi's Island. After that everything went tumbling down
>>3189745
Graphically one of my favorite games on N64
Gameplay-wise, a definite step down from Island. But still a little underrated
Great looking game.
Above average gameplay.
It's the current eceleb opinion to hate the game and claim it's shit.
