What's your favorite fully-3D retro FPS (that leaves out Doom and the likes)? let's include hybrids like SS2 or Deus Ex for the sake of argumentation.
Gotta go with my boy Deus Ex. It's everything System Shock 2 is, and more. It also has a dialogue system and it's more RPG-ish than SS2.
Unreal/Unreal Tournament.
Unreal because dat fucking atmosphere, also dem cool fights against small groups of powerful and smart opponents.
UT because dat immese ammount of content, mods, maps, all those amazing community servers I spent years on.
Quake
System Shock sucks dicks.
I miss the old games...
Great thread for your facebook tier opinions OP.

People have been saying this for years but I do agree that this is the first gen where I genuinely do not like two out of three of the starters.
But since you posted a gen VII picture you do need to go to /vp/, where they will subsequently tell you to fuck off for being a nostalgiafag. Here's a tip: Post a picture of the new games on the non-retro Pokemon board if you want to talk about the new games. Post a picture of the old games on the retro games board i fyou want to talk about the old games. Don't...

What's the best looking console?
Best looking? Super Famicom imo. Lancer Barr seemed to disagree though.

I'm stuck on Secret of Mana. I keep getting wrecked by the spiky tiger, and my party is pretty underlevelled. The thing is I can't even level them up because the AI is too retarded. I tell them to keep away on the action grid but the minute I hit an enemy and run away, they literally just stand there and take all the damage until they are dead. Until now I've pretty much been playing the game by just letting them die and playing as the main character, but it turns out I need them for the spiky tiger fight. I didn't get armor for them either and the magic...

Secret of Mana is a bad game. It doesn't deserve all the prais it gets nowadays.
>>3209787
Well I was really enjoying it up until this point.
ITT: games that deserve a HG101 article
>>3208882
So they can write character bioses and talk about feminism?
>>3208882
these days HG101 is more focused on articles for shitty modern indie faux-retro games
>>3208882
NO. That site has gone to absolute shit and only exists to produce bullshit clickbait "Articles" that frame every single aspect of a game or a franchise of games to modern socioeconomic trends ('MUH FEMINISM" "MUH PRIVLIGDGE") or completely shit on gaming franchises (See: Their Brandish articles).
Are Genesis haters just mad because most of the games don't allow saving or infinite continues? Most Super Nintendo games got saves, so you can retry a hard level as much as you want. So it's easy to beat games on Super Nintendo, but not the original Nintendo or the Sega
What?
???
>>3207841
Sega dont save. U gotta beat the game in 1 sitting

ARCADE >>>>>>>>> SLOW ASS SNES, LOW QUALITY GENESIS, TG-16 LITERALLY WHO
The only console from that generation that comes close to real game experience is the Neo-Geo.
Alright, /vr/. I want to have a thread dedicated to first person titles that have an uneasy or otherworldly vibe to them. Specifically the ones where you feel all alone in bizarre worlds and adventures. Share what you've come across and discuss your favorites.
Obligatory titles include LSD, Myst, and King's Field.
why do the prerender graphics of the 90s look very low/gay
>>3208631
Because time is linear, anon
>>3208631
Why did people in the 60s play music on records when CDs have so much better sound quality?
This game is the best RPG on the SNES and is a top-five all time RPG. It is also better than Paper Mario and any Final Fantasy game other than Tactics.

What does /vr/ think of Daggerfall? How far in the game did you get?
Wanted to play more of it, but unfortunately the game gives me severe motion sickness, so I've only played the first bit of it.
>>3205113
only the first dungeon is any fun to go through and the rest of the game is disappointing. it would be very fondly remembered if it wasn't "precedurally generated" garbage. combat is amazing, spells are fucking cool, even shit like bartering was fun because you find stuff around the store and all of this with weird abilities like the ability to speak to dragons and to create weaknesses for yourself. such a waste of good potential, hope daggerxl leads to some great fan total conversions (and not just...

I dont think I ever got past more than 4 story missions.
However I spent 100s of hours exploring the bay.
Has anybody ever played this? It seriously looks like the greatest game I've ever seen.
I played it, it is really great, like a gotta go fast Megaman.
>>3204949
Does it have any major flaws? Do you have to be autistic in order to enjoy it?
>>3204957
Biggest flaw is that if you hold left and right you teleport at infinite speed to the left. Since it's technically only possible to do on a keyboard, not on gamepads some programmers forgot to put a check to prevent stuff like that from happening. Another game that had a similar flaw was Zelda LttP when going through doors hold up+down and Tiny Toons 1 on NES.
Is this the best looking NES game of all time? I don't think anything else comes close to it visually, it looks more impressive that some 16-bit titles

Moon Crystal looks better, but Mr. Gimmick has the best physics of any NES game for sure.

Okay, tried to get into this a wee while ago, but sort of lost interest upon reaching Chapter 2. However, I've been playing Arcanum lately and really enjoying that, so I might give it another go. What's the best way to play the game if I want to have the most fun first time around (but not necessarily have the easiest time). Also, what's some good advice for combat?
>>3204315
If you want the most fun, you might want a lot of spellcasters. Multiclasses seem useful too. You could also try dual classing, say at level 4 or so, but you'd really want to look at the experience tables, druids and thieves have that working to their favour for dualing *to*.
For combat, bows are highly advantaged, they work particularly well for rogues. Though of course there's many classes who can't use them, but then they have slings. Spellwise:magic missile, animate dead for clerics, image and blur for fighter mages.
>>3204370
I actually quite fancy doing Cleric, is it fun? Also, what would be best to multiclass with?
>>3204378
Best to multiclass with is illusionists.
Clerics and druids, besides being kinda crucial to have at least one of the two, are very enjoyable to have more of, they cast spells, and large amounts, but won't put a strain on the scroll supply, because they don't need to find spells to learn them.
Is the Wonderswan family of handheld game systems worth collecting for? Of the non-gameboy handhelds it had a good run, but does the library have a lot of gems that set it apart from the Gameboy like the Game Gear did, or is it mostly weebshit that isn't interesting unless you're the type of person who knows Japanese?
If you don't know Japanese then most of the games are unplayable. There are some neat options if you don't know it but not that many. I'd say buy one only for the novelty and maybe for a unique port or two, unless you can read moon, in which case it's got some interesting things worth going for.
>>3204119
>is x worth collecting for?
That stupid question again. Why don't you just see for yourself? A full romset for that thing is like 200mb.
>or is it mostly weebshit that isn't interesting unless you're the type of person who knows Japanese?
Why are you people even on this site?
