This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!

>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.

Don't have a BKM-10R to control your shiny used BVM? Now you don't need one.

I was able to find the online auctions the guy in the last thread spoke of.

There is a Sony BVM-20F1U for sale. Supposedly a good gaming CRT. Do I go for it /vr/?

So I use this RCA Tube TV with component on my ps2 and overall it looks fine, but when calibrating a tube, where should the sharpness setting be?

So a couple of years after having to let my NES and powerpak go I've managed to get hold of a HD modded NES frontloader and another powerpak. This is my list of games, any I'm missing that are must haves or obscure gems?

Anyone know if the Super Famicom Fire Emblem Games are software region locked or if i can just play them on my snes using a converter

If it's a NTSC SNES it'll play absolutely fine. The only thing is the carts are different shapes so you have to physically remove the tabs from the SNES so it'll fit.

If it's a PAL SNES there is a lockout chip on the cart will prevent the game from running unless you have some workaround for that. Console mod is the best way to go, with SuperCIC being god-tier which also fixes the frame rate mismatch.
>>
>>3234292
Its a PAL snes but i have a converter to play NTSC games on the thing

One like pic related

Would that do the trick?

> with SuperCIC being god-tier which also fixes the frame rate mismatch.

How does it fix that exactly? Does it make a NTSC game run on 50 frames per second on a PAL SNES?

Not a /vr/ regular so forgive me if the thread doesn't belong here or if some sort of general for this type of stuff exists (though I checked the catalog and didn't find anything).

I'm looking for a retro game that I used to play in my childhood.

It was on Windows in the 98 era (I think).

the game was settled around some sort of Battle League in which different teams (some of them would use Dragons, other zeppelins etc.) would fight in air battles in arenas.

I think the name was something along the lines of "Heroes of the sky"...

I think that's Panzer dragoon.

Thank you for your input but it's sadly not.

The gameplay was basically like an Arena shooter just with added flying.

As I said before there were different groups you could join that would use different flying mounts..

can we agree nostalgia googles besides gaming peaked around PS1 era consoles and that it's been downhill since then?

Hell, It's a shame games from the SNES and PSX era still blows away in terms of GAMEPLAY modern games.

We're talking about gameplay, not story, nor graphics, nor anything else.

Is this in part not because we simply had tried everything even remotely obvious and established norms like what made an "action RPG" an action RPG and what made a "metroidvania" a metroidvania, etc?
>>
>>3233537
Nope.

There is no "peak" It's not like you have to play the shit when it comes out then in a month it fades to obscurity.

The good games are still good, the bad games are still bad. Theres been an influx of cinematic experiences and pandering to the really casual crowd and less emphasis on really core mechanics but there have been games that do try and go back and give a more robust gameplay experience, and prove there is still a market for it. The success of Dark Souls series pretty much...

Let's talk about AG racers like Wipeout and F-Zero!

To anyone interested, some dev is making a free open-source clone of the PSX Wipeout games called BallisticNG. It's pretty fun and is making fast progress, got Greenlight too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAKXgpGXgq8
