Are there any good /vr/ games about ancient Japan?
>>3243619
Ancient Japan? Probably not.
There's tons about feudal japan and the edo period though.
There are but they're almost all strategy games.
There's an older DOS game, called Sword of the Samurai. You play a Samurai lord and you control a fief and you basically play your way up from a small lord all the way to a Daimyo vieing for control of the Shogunate. You get married and have children and pass on your lineage, it's pretty cool for a DOS game. Mix of a political strategy game with some action sequences. You can invade other fiefs and build up an army, donate land to the Buddist temples, ect. I think there's events for peasant uprisings and such as well.
What are some of the best famicom exclusive games?
doki doki panic

Don't you need the Disk system for that?
Granted, the Disk System is a very prized collectible due to all the good games that were published for it. It's no wonder Nintendo tried to do it again with the N64DD (and failed).

I never played Doom, what is the best version to download? Can some give a MEGA link?
>download zdoom
>download doom.wad
>open doom.wad with zdoom
>???
>NIGGER
Maybe.. if you promise to delete it after 24 hours.
GO TO THE DOOM THREAD, FAG
Sega's not doing too hot, right? They should port some of their gems over to consoles. Like pic related!
But then there's stuff like magical truck adventure that's IMPOSSIBLE to simply port over to consoles. What are your thoughts, /vr/? What are some other arcade gems that are only possible to play in the arcade and/or is doomed to stay in arcades?
Never had the chance to play this.

This was at magfest like 2 years ago in their arcade room. Was so pumped to play it but when I got up there, there was this Stanley wet juicy brown stain right in the middle of the seat. The juice was like dripping off the from if the seat too, so groce.
Anyways, later when I was playing Barbie Motocross Adventure, I glanced over and saw some little baby sitting in it with his friend right by it. The greasy shit water was pooling up around where he was sitting. Like how could you not notice that????
The campground my family always went to had an awesome pole barn converted into an arcade. Had all kinds of current games like SF2, MK2, NBA Jam and pinball machines.
They also had Konami's Racin' Force which I could not remember the name of for years and years. Fucking loved playing this even though I was probably total garbage at it. Hope to run across it again someday.
The audio on this video is kind of loud, so heads up:

i recently bought a speccy 48k, iv heard there are games you can code and play without the use of cassettes, does anybody know any of these games to code or a website where the codes are readily available for me to copy? also general speccy thread
You can play digital files from anything that converts to analog audio with 3.5mm headphone jack.
Your computer, mp3 player, smart phone, etc. Then just input into the spectrum.
Download games, load, play.
that sounds so much simpler than i thought it would be, so i can just put the files on my smartphone as mp3 files, plug that in and run them from that? would they just play through google play music player on the phone or would there be seperate app i would have to download to run them properly?
>>3242958
I mean, there are type ins but...

http://mrpjevans.com/2013/04/load-zx-spectrum-games-in-seconds/
Apparently you have to use some kind of special player. I doubt MP3s would work as the spectrum was created far before the format.
Honestly, if the problem is lack of a tape player then you'd save the hassle by buying a Spectrum +2, which has a built in tape player, and selling that one.

Is Final Fantasy 6 worth playing on the PS1? I really don't want to shell out the money for a copy on the SNES for a game that I may or may not enjoy.
It's my first time playing Final Fantasy 6, and I was just wondering.
http://pastebin.com/8aqKfzNG
Yes it is fine. It is the same game, but with some load times and awkwardly shoehorned PS1 era CGI cutscenes. In any case, I don't really see what one would be missing exactly by playing this version.
>>3241520
The only problem with these PSX ports of SNES games is the load times, which can be very annoying if you combine them with random battles. I would reccomend the SNES or patched GBA version in FFVI's case, but if you wouldn't mind load times the PSX version is a competent port.
There is literally nothing wrong with nearest-neighbor scaling. I'd rather have mammoth-sized pixels than a screen covered in Vaseline and shit. CRTs and CRT shaders are the worst kind of meme.
>>3241471
>There is literally nothing wrong with nearest-neighbor scaling.
End up with a fucked aspect ratio or large black borders screen.
As long as you know that you're not playing it the way god intended.
all retro gaming is anyway is just a futile attempt at rekindling some juvenile emotion you felt when you were a child in an attempt to bring some modicum of joy into your drab and depressed adult life
Why do we still use dinosaur consoles and computers 20-40 years after their manufacture? Is it nostalgia for the 90's? Or something else entirely?
>>3240664
idk I have an i7 and I play on emulators, shit's cycle perfect NATCH
Arcades died.
Target audience changed.
Audience became casuals.
Video games went to shit.
>>3240664
Because there are a lot of good games on them and I haven't played them all yet
Is this game any good?
Any luck emulating it? I hear Saturn emulation sucks.
>>3240489
Just get the XBLA/PSN port. It's pretty good.
I really like the game, but it's best with friends. If you like beat em ups you should enjoy it.
It is decent, though would you need a controller to input its street-fighter-esque commands. I could never beat it single-player; I needed someone else (I'd play as Nicole and spam her magic while my friend was the bruiser).
I think it is a good game, but it's a little uneven: lots of fighting huge mobs over and over again by the end game, and huge walls of text that you have to sit through (one mid-game point is where the game decides to dump ALL of its plot into one scene that goes on forever).
There is an XBLA port that I don't know if you can...

>fantastic jazzy music
>mediocre fighting gameplay
>characters are either broken or shit
>the JRPG elements casualise it a bit
>plane system you either love or hate
>branching paths/alternate endings
>little slowdown despite lots of action
>6-player versus can get crazy fun
It's alright, but there are better...

Congratulations on winning this year's Twisted Metal contest, anon!
It is now time to claim your prize! Tell me, what is your wish?

/vr/ closes down forever.
>>3240371
Granted!
*camera spins around anon screaming*
Since /vr/ shut down, poor anon has nothing else to do but play retro video games!
In fact, with the spare time he had he beat every single retro game in existence.
Anon: retro games! Feed me more retro games! I need retro games!
Thank you for playing Twisted Metal

Who here likes to play MUD's?
A MUD is sort of like a text-based virtual world where players can log in and interact with eachother via console commands. LambdaMOO is a very old one (established 1991) with an interesting history.
HellMOO is based on the Lambda core, and quite possibly the greatest game ever made.
What are some of your favorite MUD's, /vr/?
>>3240289
>Who here likes to play MUD's?
>allow me to explain what they are, even though it doesn't make sense to after asking that question
>>3240297
A thread might be read by multiple persons, some of which may already know what a MUD is and some don't.
>>3240289
Any story about it? please describe some examples of how you play it.
>mom do we have a power strip? I need to plug in my sega genesis and sega cd and sega 32x system
dont forget the TV and the VCR
BRITAIN STRONK
This game feels sloppy. I never sense I'm in full control.
I have to maneuver my Turtle with the D-Pad, and alternate which attacks I perform with the D-Pad, as well.
I can't get the hang of doing both at the same time, so I end up pulling off attacks I don't mean to execute.
Anyone else have this problem? Or did you get use to the controls the longer you played?
Fuck off back to /v/
Its because you are not playing the far, far superior version: Hyperstone Heist.
>>3239512
>Fuck off back to /v/
I came here to discuss a problem I'm having with a retro game. Perhaps to get tips from others on how to overcome what I may be doing wrong, and/or see if anyone else experienced the same issue.
My post is on topic and just fine.
Hey guys, i need a little help. I need to sell my ps2 and dreamcast collection, but i do not want to take a big loss on it. Can some of you guys check my collection and see what you think its worth? I know marvel vs capcom 2 is worth a little bit. All your help is appreciated.
>>3238681
the only games worth anything are the snk capcom fighters. I would sell those separately since you will most likely lose money selling a lot.
