What retro games are you good at beating swiftly, /vr/?
>>3238545
Sonic Heroes, even if it is a 21th century game.
>grow up playing tomba/tomba 2
>don't know a single person irl who has played it
>want to discuss it on forums
>can't because people just spew shit from that one GDQ video
might as well kill myself.

>World begins with game's toughest stage
>Forced to complete an additional 4 stages afterwards before given a save point
Was it too much?
You can get 20 lives in minutes in Jungle Hijinx if you know how to jump-roll.

>You can get 20 lives in minutes in Jungle Hijinx if you know how to jump-roll.
Yes, but that's aside the point. I feel the development team went too far with player expectation. Why did they stretch the save point out so far in the snow world? What was the point of doing that?
>>3237513
They may have gone too far in a few places.
I finally got around to somewhat organizing my retro room and thought I'd share it with you guys.
I'd like to see everyone else post theirs as well.

back to /v/ with you
Why does everyone dislike this game?
Dissappointed at how tedious the fighting engine is. I learned to appreciated it a lot more after I learned how to min max the equipment crafting system.
>>3236247
I don't.
But I gather that people dislike it for being a beat-em-up. And if you do any of the unnecessary stuff (seed/golem/pet) game becomes too easy.
But honestly I don't mind any of those.

>>3236252
Yeah, I have to agree with this.
I will also add that I appreciated the characters and story a lot more as I got older. It is extremely shallow for someone young or without any worldly experience. And so as a teen much was lost on me. But it can also be very rich if you've ever had to deal with adversity and are into philosophy. As an adult I consider it rather brilliant.
what does /vr/ think of heretic?
it's good. inb4 "hexen is better"
it's shit. hexen is worse.
shit gameplay, shit level design. cool art style and music though.

What does /vr/ think of Half Life?
I think it is awesome. Replaying all the games rightnow.
How did you get it? Was it special for you?
It destroyed FPSs as a genre just like Metal Gear Solid ruined adventure games
Took me a few years to get into Half-Life. When I came out I hated it for the realism. Reloading, boring realism weapons (the fun sci-fi guns are at the very end of the game) being killed by a short drop that would take 10 health away in Quake, the military grunts and all that military silliness that came with them (go! go! go!), all this stuff turned me off.
But I grew the fuck up, realised that not everything has to be Quake and came to really enjoy Half-Life in the end.I still blame it for really starting the realism trend that ruined the FPS genre.

>I still blame it for really starting the realism trend that ruined the FPS genre.
But that was Goldeneye
This game is so addictive. So simple, but so good.
What are some other good pinball video games?
I only played Sonic Spinball and Pokemon Pinball but honestly I think I like the old NES pinball the best.
Rollerball is another quite decent NES pinball game.

>HAL America
Is that HAL from Kirby games? They had an american branch?
I will try it either way, thanks for the suggestion.
Play pinbot my dad got it for me as a kid and it was awesome. Challenging and fun.
My dad always brought some weird ass game I would have never thought to ask for.
>here's looking at you Archon and George Foremans KO boxing.
Redpill me on the Neo Geo, /vr/. Is it worth collecting for if you aren't an FGCfag?
>>3225557
This is such a stupid question, even overlooking the retarded vocabulary. So you're just going to start buying tens of thousands of dollars worth of hardware and software because of the responses on /vr/? Do it, I dare you.
>>3225557
Not really, emulation is very good and the good games are mostly posted to other systems. It's a very expensive console to collect for (relatively)
>>3225557
google mvs
Do you buy the argument that certain games "don't age well", or is that just nonsense?
A lot of things are products of their time.
>>3209230
If some game really breaks boundaries and becomes a "gold standard" and a bunch of games get released after it that simply improve over the original ideas of that game, you could consider it "aged."
For example, SMB seems like it has aged poorly because although it set standards for platforming, the games that followed it (SMB3, SMW, Yoshi's Island, DKC, DKC2, Earthworm Jim, etc.) All took the platformer foundations SMB laid and improved on them, so SMB seems weaker in comparison.
It...

I don't know, but there's games from the PS1 era that I could sink in hours and hours at a time but last time I tried them recently I could barely get past level 1, if that.
Do to that sale on gog i've recently acquired sam and max hit the road, shits cash so while im here lets have a sam and max thread
Why were the Telltale games so bland compared to Hit The Road?
>>3187530
Sam: It's a possessed outhouse!
Max: This kind of thing wouldn't happen if they had indoor plumbing.

Limited budget
Simpsons syndrome (00's stop making you fun)
Still wanted to play Freelance Police though, at least it had the original VAs, too bad whatever 85% beta there is of it will rot on some Lucas/Disney HDD for all time to come.

>i'm the only person who's played one of the most well known saturn franchises

>>3184251

The music was really bad in the 2nd gen man.
This is the only 2600 game I can think of that had a "full" soundtrack. Has a Gen 1 Pokemon vibe to it.

Hi there
In 2001-2002 I was lucky to have a dreamcast. Recent couple months I spent in desperately attempts to finding a tune from video from Dreamon collection (probably vol 2, it was like usual legit Dream on 2, but with bunch of extra content there. Like video of Donkey Kong racing etc).
The problem is that my console was already hacked before purchase and CD was probably bootleg (it was common practice in my country back then). I assumed, that CD was bootleg, because I was trying to find that video through the complete list on segaretro.org , and didn't...

Sounds like it might be "Evolution"
>>3247218
If you mentioned dreamcast game, I highly doubt, cuz that person in that video was far realistic, than "Evolution" cartoonish style

Maybe it's Phantasy Star Online?
I want to play both Parappa the rapper and Um Jammer Lammy but i'm a bit lost at the subject.
I was planning in just download the pirated games and after burning them into cds, i'll play them in my old ps2 slim with the help of the swap magic disc
This is what i usually do with some ps2 games but with the psx ones doesn't seem to work
could you please give me any help?
>>3247025
I would say just buy the games since they are cheap, but Parappa seems to have gone up a bit since I last checked. Lammy is still cheap, though.
On a more helpful note, I seem to remember there being 2 versions of the Swap Magic disc. A DVD version for PS2 games and a CD version for PS1 games.
>>3247057
No, the CD version is for the handful of PS2 games that use CD-ROM instead of DVD-ROM.
Hmmmmm i have the DVD version, what a shame
Do you think that i can find both games in English on ebay, for example? I searched this morning for the Jammer Lammy and i only saw Japanese copies
Also, do you think that it's worth buy it? i have heard about a lot of people complaining about the games don't running to well but i'm not very well informed about that
