What does /vr/ think of the dreamcast game elysian shadows?
I think you, me and this whole board should donate our next pay check to it.

Bear with me, but is there some sort of rom hack out there where I can play as Ryo Sakazaki in Fatal Fury Special's arcade mode?
MUGEN?

There's no need to yell, anon.
The universe bios can enable him, but only in AES mode for some reason.
Was it really quality over quantity?
Of course: Zelda, the other Zelda, the list goes on...
No, because taste is subjective, and the more games you have, the more likely it is that some of those will be a particular person's "quality."
I hate N64 but its best 3D platformers and party games were marginally superior. That wasn't even close to enough to save it though
phrases about games.
this life stinks
Living is like a roguelike
when you die you have to start all over from the beginning of the exact same game again
and again
and again
until you get it right
Does /vr/ like Paperboy? Do you personally find difficult? Which is your favorite version of the game?
I love Paperboy, I do find it difficult, and I'm pretty sure I played it the most on NES which ultimately made it my favorite version, for better or worse.
Never beat the second week, N64 had the best game.
*seinfeld slap bass starts playing*
Just finished Phantasy Star IV and had a blast. My only complaint is that it was a bit grindy in some parts. What are some other great retro jrpgs that preferably aren't too long?
>>3246143
Ys
Earthbound
>>3246143
You can beat Mario rpg blind quickly
I want to get into Mega Man and i was wondering if the Mega Man Legacy Collection was a good place to start.
Is the 3DS version of it good?
>>3246093
it's literally the old games ported (or whatever the right word is) to the 3DS
i have it, and i like it. it runs just like the old games, too.
>>3246093
Just emulate the old games, they run the same and legacy doesn't have 7-10 and MM&B.
Also we all know why you made this thread. Personally I like many feel the design is terrible. Overdesigned and the color scheme is too dark. Really all we could expect is shit as good things should never be expected to happen. This ruby spears pitch is what a mega man cartoon should look like.

thats fan art right?
Why are we so conditioned to fight Kraid before Ridley in the original Metroid? By the time you're able to fight Kraid, you're already down in Norfair anyway, and Ridley (both the boss and his level) isn't more difficult than Kraid, so why wouldn't you fight Ridley first?
>>3245961
>we
Who the fuck are "we"?
I always do Ridley first since that lets me get enough health to yolobombstrat Kraid.
>>3245990
Same here. Kraid is such a pain in the ass that I need the extra equipment from doing Norfair and Ridley to beat him quickly and easily.
The only conditioning comes from Super Metroid, I believe, where you are far, far, far more likely to kill Kraid first (I don't even know if you can kill Ridley before Kraid in SM).
I also think the manual mentions Kraid first because he's closer to the start of the game.
I'm curious: do you guys think the Zero Suit ruined Samus' character, or enhanced it?
According to the 2007 book Gaming Lives in the Twenty-First Century: Literate Connections, Samus was perhaps the most nonsexualized female video-game character ever,[48] a belief shared by Steve Rabin in Introduction to Game Development, which also considered Samus as one of Nintendo's most popular video game mascots.[49]
>In 2002, Justin Hoeger of The Sacramento Bee opined that "unlike most other female video game characters, Samus isn't...

Nice spelling OP. Great thread.
Whats the rarest retro game you own?
>>3245498
Either Bowling or Blackjack for Intellivision

Earthbound isn't rare Is just expensive.

Earthbound isn't rare, just gouged.
With its more memorable music, far better level designs, and cooler bonus stages, Contra is clearly the definitive NES Contra game.
Also Contra Thread.
>>3245215
On NES, I prefer Contra. It just feels cleaner. For arcade, Super Contra was a much better game.
But crap. it's like talking about ferrari vs lambo. I'll take either.
>>3245215
wait. Bonus stages?

I've never heard anyone talk about super c other than the angry video game nerd.
How did they fuck it up so badly?
>>3246415
Whoa. Different anon. You should calm down. Its not like >>3244824 came off as a total ass, just stating a point. I will agree with OP. I loved the first one, but the second one was Sci-fi channel tier. I still liked most of the fight scenes, but that cgi and dialogue was atrocious.

this is my favorite pasta
MK is the best vidya movie. Even the creators liked it so much they incorporated the ideas from it into the game's lore. Not many series can say the same.
>>3246494
Double Dragon did it TWICE.
Street Fighter did it three times.
Hell, four if you count the Marvel series.
Mega Man did it with it's anime.
Pokemon does this every year. Especially with the current series being a great sidestory to the Kalos games.
Digimon did it.
Final Fantasy did it.
The list goes on, man...
So /vr/, who was the best retro ninja?
Tenchu

Cowabunga, dude

What do you think of this game? I've seen people refer to it as the most underrated Mario game, and I've even heard of people calling it one of the best Mario games.
I have a lot of nostalgia for it, but I'd say it's a pretty big stretch to call it the best. It's certainly well made for being a slower, floatier take on Mario. The amount of variety between worlds, along with secret levels/paths is quite admirable. Definitely worth emulating or picking up on the eShop.
It's a crazy step towards console quality Mario games when compared to SML1. I honestly prefer the first one for its simplicity and straightforwardness, but 2 is definitely the more polished of the two. The leap is similar to SMB1 -> SMB3.
All of that being said, I find SML2 to be too slow, and relatively uninteresting, overall.
This game ruled my childhood and I want even a super huge Mario fan. Lots of memorable tunes, great level variety and as a little kid the bosses really kind of freaked me the fuck out. This was also before I knew who wario was, and going to the main castle and seeing this fat huge creepy-eyed fuck who continuously stomped my ass was almost a little traumatizing. Also lots of minigame and secrets. Definitely over rated. Better than classic Mario, floaty like smb2 (nes) and definitely the trickiest bosses. I've always thought the boss STAGES of Mario games were challenging,...
