How fares your empire, /gsg/?
This day in history, July 18th:
390 BC – Roman-Gaulish Wars: Battle of the Allia: A Roman army is defeated by raiding Gauls, leading to the subsequent sacking of Rome.
1290 – King Edward I of England issues the Edict of Expulsion, banishing all Jews (numbering about 16,000,000,000,000) from England; this was Tisha B'Av on the Hebrew calendar, a day that commemorates many Jewish calamities.
1342 – Mu'izz al-Din Husayn defeats the Sarbadars in the Battle of Zava.
1925 – Adolf Hitler publishes his personal manifesto Mein Kampf.

Getting sick and tired of this fucking meme game
>Play as Germany
>Pick my allies carefully, only puppets join my faction,no shitaly no Japan
>Nips declare war on the US and is getting BTFO
>Italy does nothing
>Spain asks to join my faction
>Ok not like it happens often, ill let them
>Declare war on Allies
>Can focus my armies on the west since I took out the SU already
>Almost ready to invade Britain
>Suddenly Spain declares war on El fucking Salvador out of nowhere
>They were guaranteed by the US
>War was supposed to be over next month, now Im at war with the entire planet because Spain felt like declaring war on fucking this

>play as Italy
>decide to keep good relations with nazi germany and have an on agression pact

>dreaming about rome as the world is on all out war cuz of hitler going full retard
what should i do? i don't think my faction is strong enough to defeat anyone...maybe the USSR but still i don't want to get attacked by the UK from behind
>not allying Italy
In HOI4 they are very strong, almost as strong as Germany. Way too much manpower, and any difference in tech is quickly covered in only a few years.
>Spain doesn't join Axis often
Happens in most of my games desu, though often not until at least 1942.
>Suddenly Spain declares war on El fucking Salvador out of nowhere
Never happened to me, but that's fucking hilarious. Possibly even realistic, I mean all of the countries on the Axis were after territory. Did you think you could just string Spain along without them wanting to reclaim territory of their own?
Sounds like you're new at this game. Italy should be able to defend itself against any major power really, if it's in the hands of the player.
It's your own fault really. If you don't want to pick fights because you think you're too weak, and you refused to ally with anyone with decent military strength, what did you expect to happen?
>Can't declare war on anyone
>Can't even guarantee
>Retarded limitations on joining and inviting others to factions
>Can't get any experience other than through le ebin squats and oats
Is there any reason to play a democracy in HoI 4? Start in 1936 and you're literally only building factories. Start in 1939 and prepare to get your shit pushed in.
yeah its my first play through without rage quitting
i have like 150 divisions
and like 30 tank divisions (light tank with motorized and support towed artillery maintenance recon and engineer companies plus a line of light SPGs)
my navy is decent
do you think I can take on the USSR or UK?
all the balkans except hungary are in my faction btw plus Turkey
Honestly I wish there was an option for some sort of custom ideology or just remove that "non aligned bullshit"
since when did the king of Saudia give a damn about world tension?
I don't know what you can do m8, I'm not in your game.
I would advise not taking on the UK though, because it's very difficult to naval invade. If your navy is comparable then it's possible, but still difficult.
The USSR isn't super hard to beat. They have a lot of dudes but it'll be a good way for you to learn the warfare side of the game. They'll also be spread across two fronts, fighting in Armenia and Ukraine. And you said they're at war with Germany, so you can give them some help.
I understand that they try to mimic the real life history in which some countries tried to make hell break loose and others tried to ease tension, but this is a bad way to go about things. It makes democracies boring until someone else makes a move. SOMETHING gives me the impression this was designed for multiplayer games.
On top of that, it's historical but boring. But considering that fucking Singapore alone has many times the resources of ALL OF FRENCH AFRICA COMBINED (which, I remind you, has ZERO OIL) Paracucks aren't concerned with historicity past the setting of their games.
Reminder that the R&I wants to drive out Darkest Hour because it distracts people from Liquoria.
>its like only Europe and the pacific islands had resources
Don't you know that Africans are brilliant and hardworking people that only never advanced because they have literally zero resources at their disposal, you bigot?
What are you, some kind of Shadow-Hitler?
You can make grossfanciums by doing the release trick with Prussia against Germany but then you run into the problem of having kr*uts in your empire
The unHistorical Project Mod. It adds some meme stuff to HPM. It's quite fun
i'm ironically Libyan
Italy tapping Libya for oil in the game is ahistorical itself but Libya also has very little oil in the game (and 2 rubber somehow??) its triggering
i don't get what this means
Many of the African nations included in Vicky 2, especially in NNM, are barely post-tribal. Some are arguably still tribal. As such, it's not surprising that fewer than 1 in 25 can read and write.
Bought EU4 and all the expansions (not the unit packs and music crap though) and just started playing my first game.
Picked Holland but I am having trouble breaking free from Burgundy, it's already been 25 years and I'm still their bitch. With mercenaries I am able to field a force of 20 regiments or so but even after them getting their tits slapped by France they still have an alliance worth 45-50 regiments.
Should I just be patient or what? They're allied with Gelre who took over Friesland and Utrecht with their help, I'm like completely boxed in.
Just trying to make money now and getting England/France and all of the HRE to like me (went with Diplomat ideas).
>Italy tapping Libya for oil in the game is ahistorical itself
But not entirely impossible. It would've technically ben feasable at the time had they tried it. That's what the game reflects in its decisions (or should reflect): viable alternate histories. Things like Italy looking for oil in Libya or France extending the Maginot Line.
>Still no torrent for this game
It is pretty close, but not as deep as aurora
>try shot with manpower nerfed EU3
>lets do Knights, i remember Ottomans being bastards every time i did them
>ai cannot handle lack of manpower
>perpetual ai wars
>game ruined because EU4 design choices are being pushed in
Ottomans can't handle anything in the 1399 start
>have to devote all their troops to battling the timurids
>all the christians around them are guaranteed by france and castille
>big european power always ends up being DoF
>venice guaranteeing everyone
>can't handle the bosphorus strait or it's constantly blockaded by castille
It's a pretty hard start. 1453 is more balanced.
They reduced manpower growth a while ago...50% was it? 15 years to gain manpower pool back.
Thats the funny thing, they didnt have issues with Castille or anyone beside Timurids for 30 years. Even with conscripts they simply couldnt handle the manpower costs.
And then Regency happened and well...go figure.
>Shit hits the fan historically accurately
>Suddenly the entire English fleet shows up off Wilhelmshaven and flattens my everything
Well that wasn't very accurate.
Am I supposed to just leave my entire navy at port and hope the naval forts keep Tommy Englishman out?
Well maybe i got a modifier or two then since its slightly below that. But i really shouldnt be able to defeat Castille with Granada as easy as it is now.
Only if you play Germany.
>mfw i divided it by 20
Oh god what was i thinking
So it's better to just tell the Kriegsmarine to fuck off down south atlantic for commerce raiding and hope they don't run into poms?
I assume submarines can be active around the channel without being flattened.
You wot mate?
What am i supposed to do, stay on Rhodes until i get my ass kicked to Malta?
Only thing i dont get is from where i get people for resetlemments.
>I miss the sliders.
Same. Paracucks tries to defend their national ideas and birdmana and whatever, but sliders are such an eas way to represent a country prioritizing X overy Y (and to a specific degree) in a way that makes sense and doesn't need some mana abstraction.
In EU III, the French army was strong because France diverted funds away from the navy into the army, and focused on quality over quantity. You could easily reverse this and make France a naval superpower that on land relies on its massive manpower and zerg rushes to keep the enemy at bay.
In HoI IV, the French army is strong because "muh élan", something another nation (like for example Austria) can do literally nothing about: the French army will always be stronger.
>M-Muh ideas tho
With the splitting of scroll, bird and sword mana a non-retarded France is guaranteed to have at least one military idea as their first three ideas.
>only countries which gets a significant amount of oil are USA (around 750), USSR (130), Romania (70) and 50 each for Iraq and Iran
>USA get like 90 free civilian factories because of this when the war kicks off
>there is literally zero reason to fight in Africa
>no resources, no victory points
>want to have fun as Rommel and rush the Suez Canal to cut the English off from Indian resources?
>lol no reason to, convoys will go just as fast via South Africa
They could have just removed Africa from the map and it wouldn't have made any difference.
Freudian slip there m8.
What is oil even used for anyway? Tanks are unnecessary as fuck, just stack soft attack.
As for Africa being irrelevant, well that's true, but not a huge stretch considering WWII.
>Tanks are unnecessary as fuck
Thats more of a shitty design than what actually happened IRL.
And Suez with Gibraltar were most important strategic locations in the whole war for Allies.
If Spain joined Axis how hard would it be to take Gibraltar?
>Freudian slip there m8.
Yeah, true, but HoI4 also does stupid shit to justify certain outcomes, like in that other post you responded to.
>Tanks are unnecessary as fuck, just stack soft attack.
Well, they're pretty fast allowing you to quickly take victory points from the enemy. I've also seen this youtube tutorial explaining that infantry is better on the defensive (defense) while tanks (supported by motorized infantry) better on the offense (breakthrough)
>As for Africa being irrelevant, well that's true, but not a huge stretch considering WWII.
The African theater was important as fuck though, due to both domestic oil and access to Arabia. And Charles de Gaulle's African based Free French weren't exactly something a game like HoI should be able to ignore.
But let me guess, they'll be some kind of DLC. And soon we'll have bullshit like "the Free Nazi Germans" popping up in Dutch Guyana or something.
It's used for everything in your navy and airforce, plus motorized/mechanized infantry PLUS tanks. It's the most important resource in the game to keep a modernized army. If Germany doesn't get Romania's oil or reaches Baku in time they lose the war every single time.
>Thats more of a shitty design than what actually happened IRL.
>And Suez with Gibraltar were most important strategic locations in the whole war for Allies.
I'm not convinced of Gibraltar's importance. In his WWII memoirs Churchill discusses the prospect of Spain entering the war with nonchalance, describing it as a mere trade of Gibraltar for the Canary Islands. Malta was significantly more important.
You're right that Suez is important, but this was for two reasons which are both in game. The first is that the Japanese pushing through India and the Germans pushing through Egypt could have met up in the Middle East if Egypt fell, thus giving Japan access to the Mediterranean and Italy/Germany access to the Indian Ocean. The second is what you said about having to go round the Cape instead, which is also in game, and it does delay convoys and make them more susceptible to attack.
>If Spain joined Axis how hard would it be to take Gibraltar?
Not very difficult.
>I've also seen this youtube tutorial explaining that infantry is better on the defensive (defense) while tanks (supported by motorized infantry) better on the offense (breakthrough)
Link to tutorial? I just stack artillery/rocket artillery and recon and murder the AI.
>And Charles de Gaulle's African based Free French weren't exactly something a game like HoI should be able to ignore.
Agree with this entirely, the Free French took back every French territory in WWII except Indochina but they're immaterial in HOI.
>But let me guess, they'll be some kind of DLC.
Heh possibly. All I want from DLC is more attention given to the minor countries, at least off the top of my head. Other issues should be fixed in patches.
Irrelevant unless planning a naval invasion.
As for the Germany dying without oil, not only is that historically accurate but it also affects only the AI.
My character in CK2 converted to Buddhism, but for some reason isn't automatically in one of the three sects?
Is there some kind of event I can trigger, or trait and can add using the console to allow my character to be assigned to one of the sects?
If Suez and Gibraltar are taken then Malta is as good as dead. However even taking just Gibraltar would deprive Malta of supply in real life, and potentially Africa in turn. That is a good point, and I don't remember what Churchill had to say on the issue.
>Link to tutorial? I just stack artillery/rocket artillery and recon and murder the AI.
>All I want from DLC is more attention given to the minor countries
In other words, you want from the DLC what should've been in the full game? Paracucks in a nutshell.
Why is it so arbitrary whether or not you can declare on African nations in Vicky?
Can someone help me understand?
Feel free to disagree with me but i never help up Churchill as a strategic genius.
He was simply a stubborn right-wing politician who kept England in fighting shape during the war. Dont forget he was pretty well known for proposing many extreme things during his career and that his influence was greatly reduced/controlled after war was over.
Everyone says this, and to some extent it's true, but as the leader of the entire Allies for the majority of the war what he says deserves some respect. Some say that his memoirs on WWII were made to excuse his poor decisions, but having read it I strongly feel that he gives reasons for everything and allows you to disagree with them if that's where your thinking takes you.
How is playing as Confederate America in Victoria?
In my opinion he went bit too far.
>attacking French fleet after armstrice
>haggling over European spheres with Stalin
>funding a coup in Yugoslavia when they signed triparite pact
>meeting with FDR naked
>attacking French fleet after armstrice
As if England could ever risk the German, Italian, and French fleets combining. Besides, did this to Denmark during the Napoleonic Wars, so I don't think it's a Churchill-only thing.
>haggling over European spheres with Stalin
Is this a bad thing? If the UK hadn't claimed Greece as it's sphere through diplomacy, it probably would have lost it to the iron curtain.
>funding a coup in Yugoslavia when they signed triparite pact
What was wrong with this? I mean it's sad for the Yugoslavs and all, but they were at war.
You also forgot to mention the invasions of Madagascar and Iran.
HPM nerfed it.
Dream is over.
No Golden Circle or having Naval war with England over reinstating slave trade to get slaves from Africa.
HPM says "if you want better industry/immigration with CSA, abolish slavery"
Oh yeah those too.
Well all those things are kinda well...unless youre a Brit theyre hard to deal with.
And Brits fucked it up in the first place with Chamberlain being so passive.
>HPM nerfed it.
He didn't nerf it, he didnt change anything about it in the last versions
>HPM says "if you want better industry/immigration with CSA, abolish slavery"
This was always true
If anything, he buffed them since slavery is better than in vanilla
>And Brits fucked it up in the first place with Chamberlain being so passive.
Chamberlain is hard done by desu. After all, the Sudetenland, Austria, and the Rhineland are all rightful German clay. Also their French allies wouldn't move, and as if the UK would fight a war with Germany over some tiny landlocked nation without the French.
>Now you no longer get cores on any province that has other cores (like Mexico, Cuba, Haiti).
>I don't get nonsensical free cores and free land
That isn't nerfing nigger, the CSA is the same as always, you just can't exploit the game to get cores in all of north america and then play as a nation with all those cores and no infamy
>Also if they abolish slavery why did they secede anyway?
Because the civil war wasn't about slavery
You don't need to abolish slavery if you don't want, you just need to deal with the consequences
>New England released
Did you do that or did the US have to after losing the war?
If you're the CSA can you still get the event to get Washington from England?
>"if you want better industry/immigration with CSA, abolish slavery"
Why is that? How does it make industry impossible? What's the point of seceding if you're going to not keep slavery?
What are the actual mechanics of slavery in Vicky 2?
>get cores on any province that has other cores (like Mexico, Cuba, Haiti)
That used to be a thing?
>you lost your empire in the most horrific war of human history, just to become a dank meme on a Mongolian throat-singing board
Idk anything about warhammer. I guess it will be the same insider crab like Game of Thrones.
Is there really nothing else cool out there.
Lame as the shit of a pigeon running down your car.
>Portugal–Britain: The Portuguese government presented a project, known as the "Pink Map" (also called the "Rose-Colored Map"), in which the colonies of Angola and Mozambique were united by co-option of the intervening territory (land that later became Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi.) All of the countries attending the conference, except for the United Kingdom, endorsed Portugal's ambitions. A little more than five years later, in 1890, the British government, in breach of the Treaty of Windsor (and of the Treaty of Berlin itself), issued an ultimatum demanding that the Portuguese withdraw from the disputed area.
Would you look at that,Brits being backstabbing kikes once again.
Can you mod the game or mess with it somehow to be able to play as New England or Deseret or the Maritime Union or any other tiny "could be nation" that relies on someone else to release them?
Him and Nicholas II made fun of George V for not being a 'true' monarch (since the UK was a democracy).
In the end, George V got the last laugh as both of them were either dead or abdicated and their respective nations in full revolution.
>button doesn't go away until you make your national value choice
unlimited prestige here we go
There is no reason to play CSA then. If you don't abolish slavery you have shitty industry because no immigrants. If you do abolish it then there is no point in having the CSA and you still won't get immigrants.
>There is no reason to play CSA then
So there's no reason to play any other country that isn't the US because you don't get the same bonus as them?
>If you don't abolish slavery you have shitty industry because no immigrants.
It's the same shit as vanilla nigger, you get immigrants the same way any other country in similar situation does
You get 1% more immigrant attraction if you abolish slavery, are you arguing that you don't get any immigrants because of that 1%?
No it doesn't
>I can't play CSA because I can't get any immigrants with slavery
>but it's the same as vanilla
>but I don't get the US bonuses
>but no one does
>but I can't play CSA because I can't get any immigrants with slavery
>but it's 1% difference from countries without slavery
>but without that 1% the CSA is over
So you can't play as the CSA ever because you face the same shit in vanilla
>trying to take Manifest Destiny cores from Mexico
>California always declares Independence from Mexico before I finish
>have to fuck around with bringing Cali into the union after the war is over
Fuck this gay shit.
That doesn't change immigration at all
Just because you can't cheese CSA cores in places without US cores doesn't mean you can't get immigrants and your whole game is ruined
We are literally talking about a 1% bonus you don't get over AI run countries
But it makes 1% immigration less important if you have those extra states. That extra 1% is very important especially when you have to defend against the us for the rest of the game.
You don't need to defend against the US for the rest of the game since the declaration of independence removes theirs cores on you
Not getting 1% literally doesn't make a difference and every country with slavery enabled doesn't get it
>But it makes 1% immigration less important if you have those extra states.
Furthermore, nothing is stopping you from getting these extras states, you just need to spend your own infamy to get it and you don't get free cores in it
The total adult male population of swedes is around 4.3M. 1.3M of them live in Benin. While around 5% of all the swedish states in europe are African. What is this meme.
How come this event doesn't release me from being a puppet? Am I misinterpreting "Release Poland" somehow?
>random event that lowers militancy pops up
>a third of them quit
>I have lvl 3-4 forts in all provinces
Newest HPM suddenly decreases my relations with pretty much every single nation to -200 for no reason.
What's up with that?
Mostly in Asia I got like 35M Asians. Didn't blob very much in Africa but blobbed in Europe to make the Baltic sea my lake. Funny thing about Benin is that none of the black people want to work in the factories. But 1.3M Swedes have moved there to work in the factories.
I don't want no proto Swedes in my empire. Norway is a puppet and Denmark is chief cuckster and have been following my every command for 80 years now.
I still need Finland (still have cores) but I'm not willing to fight Russia
hopefully they get a revolution and Finland breaks away and then I annexed them
It's stupid too because the democracies started all these wars
ofc democracies can "declare wars" they are just more involved.
Like embargoing Japan, put your pacific fleet within attack range in an unprotected naval port, then wait for Japan to hit you
In EUIV, what happens when you are playing dutch nation and Netherlands revolution happens before you can form it?
What i could read from wiki, you get a option to join the republic, but doesn't that mean end of your game?
Hey you guys know what would be really neat? if tw:empire soundscripts were implemented into eu4, can we do that?
> death camps never existed
Guess you know more than Rudolf Höss, longest serving commandant of Auschwitz?
> Technically it wasn't so hard—it would not have been hard to exterminate even greater numbers....The killing itself took the least time. You could dispose of 2,000 head in half an hour, but it was the burning that took all the time. The killing was easy; you didn't even need guards to drive them into the chambers; they just went in expecting to take showers and, instead of water, we turned on poison gas. The whole thing went very quickly.
Trying to take on Americancer. How the fuck they have so many units? They just cancerously sprawl units and never go anywhere, I'm yet to see any Allied invasion.
I nuked Washington, I was hoping for more devastating effect, or least decimating units on that state.
Anyway, I've finally surpassed the US in the air superiority game. I'm also fighting them off in Mexico, but its going pretty slow.
What is the key to you your blobbing against Germany?
Was it making Benin a state instead of just a colony?
I barely managed to take Schleswig-Holstein, only just won the war because I attacked when the Krauts were fighting both France and Kuk(they both got stomped but it brought me some time for ticking warscore) and I think I still would have lost had the AI kept fighting for another half a year.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, fucking Nazis are taking over, the Soviets are down. And I'm yet to see any Invasion going on.
(actually there is a little drop of invasion going on in Spain, but I doubt it will go anywhere)
Btw, why the fuck is hold down the fallback line so bad? It says in the description they should take it back but instead they just leave the freaking thing open
A lot of Asians and Blacks were the key to blobbing against Germany. My army was about 50% larger than theirs but they could mobilize like 200% more than me. Then you just go around stack wiping them for 3 years and then siege em down.
Its literally thousands, and whats worse, they some shitty small divisions. They supposed to be sending troops on invasion or helping the europe front. No wonder Nazies always wins
I'm not that cruel Iceland can be a puppet. Considering their small population they would probably become like 30% black by games end.
does anyone know what causes AI Austria to refuse anschluss in hoi4?
my autism can't handle not having those states as cores
