Okay /v/ I want to get maximum comfy and play a new JRPG on my PS3. I'm looking for old school PS1 and PS2 JRPGs to download from PSN. What's a good one? I already have:

Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Chrono Trigger
Grandia 1
Persona 3 FES
Persona 4
SMT Nocturne

What's a great one I don't have that I must play?
>>
Grandia 2
>>
I never understood Final Fantasy fans.

Inevitably, there is always a JRPG with funner gameplay on the same console that the new FF title has been released on. Do Final Fantasy fans play other RPGs? What happens when they inevitably play an RPG that has a combat system that is more intuitive and/or more involving leading to being more fun? If you are you a fan because of the stories and the teeny bop stuff I would say read a real novel with substance but its obvious you play the game to simply feel like you have some sort of part/control of the story. Are you a fan because of the art style/graphics/cut scenes? Then you're just a shallow faggot.

you can play both

If you like the idea of buffs and debuffs being useful, Nocturne is a pretty solid choice. It has a standout soundtrack.
>>
>>337730214
This.

I also highly suggest you try Persona 2 IS & EP if you liked Persona 3 or 4. That's mainly for a good story though.

Hey /v/, lets change the subject just a little.

What would the the HRPG that everyone must play?

Violated Heroine?
>>
>>337730202
I've played at least 14 SMT games, completed them all besides Raidou 2 and this was before I'd ever even touched FF. I've beaten 6 FF games in the past year and a half and they're definitely not worth passing up.

Pretty much every PS1 jRPG game is a good one. I mean you can literally print every PSONE jRPG cover, stick it on your wall, throw a dart with your eyes closed and it's garanteed that it will land in a enjoyable game.

OP again. I've heard great things about Final Fantasy V and Suikoden 2. Which one is the better game?
>>
>>337730076
Breath of Fire III and IV. You'd need a Vita/PSP for III but IV is on PSN. Anyone mentioning Grandia is also correct. There's also Alundra 1 and 2, Brave Fencer Musashi, Chrono Cross, Front Mission 3, Parasite Eve, and so much more that it'd be stupid to list everything here. Just Google "PS1 JRPGs" and you'll get results. Not everything I mentioned is on PSN, but you can emulate whatever you can't find.
>>
>>337730076
Get some Shadow Hearts on there my good anon. I'd recommend all three but people tend to loudly disagree with me. At least Covenant (the second) though.
>>
>>337730076
Dragon Quest 8. Thank me later.

OP here

I decided to get Suikoden 2. Hope it's as great as everybody makes it out to be. Next up with definitely be Final Fantasy V. What can be my 3rd and final game? I don't wanna get too many JRPGs at once because it will take me months to finish

DDS1+2 is a perfect followup to Nocturne and they both have some of the best JRPG soundtracks ever.

Didn't exist on the NES or SNES thanks to FFI, III, IV, and V being among the best JRPGs on their consoles. This only became a problem starting with FFVI because you could go full retard and the game would still be brainless and easy.

Final Fantasy VII.

May or may not be the best game here but it's a touchstone of gaming that must be experienced.

Every jrpg fan knows Lufia.

There are no hidden gems on the SNES except stuff that never got released outside of Nihongoland.

I like how much more respect FFV gets these days at least.

I remember in the 90s and even 2000s it was treated like the SNES redheaded stepchild, it was nothing but IV vs. VI and VI vs. VII fans every thread.

But these days you see lots of people saying it's one of the best FF games. And it is.

At least FFT makes you wait for Orlandeau, Calculators and late game gear to press the IWin button.

Instead of just archers and Canopus with a healer, a mage and a couple of knight tanks.

Jrpgs not as on Roku J RPG only signifies that it's come out of Japan. A lot of RPGs come out of Japan and they have a very different play Styles. Simply calling them jrpgs is very ignorant, as it does nothing to describe the game. Please educate yourself next time you decide to post.

Not to mention the fact that OP never said anything that contradicts your "point," nor did he exclude any genres.

But you saw a list of traditional turn-based/console-style jap rpgs and it triggered your contrarian autism.

First of all, who the fuck plays an RPG for anything other than the story??

>I would say read a real novel with substance
Second of all, kill yourself immediately. RPGs are a huge improvement over novels as a means of storytelling. Just because you're an edgy contrarian hipster who thinks people should read novels for the story instead doesn't take away from that simple FACT.

Here's another fact for you while I'm at it: Reading is for learning. Anyone who reads anything besides non-fiction is a literal double-digit IQ retard. Play RPGs instead if you want a story.

Inindo: Way of the Ninja

>relatively massive open world filled with disparate petty lords fighting and scheming against eachother, most of whom don't give two fucks about the PC beyond being a mere mercenary
>game has meaningful time progression that affects gameplay (spying on an enemy castle works better at nighttime, etc.), and deadlines for completing mercenary assignments
>able to influence and join in the lord's warfare and scheming to get prefered lords better status, even leading troops in a Romance of Three Kingdoms style battlefield combat
>personal battles are interesting and tactical, dealing with character placement, distance, and what weapon types and/or magic tricks are availible
>nearly a hundred individual NPCs with their own disposition to the PC, and can do various actions and live their lives completely independently of the PC
>said NPCs can be permanently killed in battle (after falling in battle, the PC and NPCs become wounded, where they will die if they are defeated again without convalescing)
>most NPCs live their lives independently of the PCs actions, and their motives can vary on different playthroughs (although there are several that always have certain motives or objectives)
>was released on SNES

Downsides:
>shit graphics even for its time
>main storyline is horribly linear
>no customization of the player character

I submit that Inindo: Way of the Ninja is the most dynamic JRPG of the SNES era, and possibly the most dynamic game of that era. And unlike the Lufia whiners, Inindo had almost zero printed information about it (while Lufia 2 had a cover page main feature Nintendo Power issue about it, so if anyone was even remotely a Nintendo fan in the early 90s was aware of the Lufia series).
