Hey /v/, help me out bros.
just finished this really nice game in its' definitive edition but now i have a problem, i need something new to play.
Got anything in the similar style? (metroidvania that is).
I see there are few on steam but i don't really know which ones are worth the purchase.
Any recommendations?
>>
Axiom Verge
Teslagrad
The Swapper

Many people will recommend La-Mulana in this thread, but don't be fooled, it is only for the highly autistic

finished that one, was nice
>Teslagrad
seen it around but not sure about it
>The Swapper
i dunno man, i might be too picky.

Ori just felt... fun. it had good animtations, interesting and genuinely fun to use skills. I liked to see the character hop in different ways etc. The bouncing off the enemies and projectiles made me have a really good time.
Those other games seem nice but they are not really as dynamic are they?

Shantae and the pirates curse is fun
>>
>>336158407
>Shantae and the pirates curse
got it on the handheld bruh..
damn i already have the good ones...
>>

The Swapper is worth playing. More akin to Portal than Ori though.

>>336157239
look into the momodora games

If you enjoyed Ori you are anything but too picky
>>
>>336158360
Ori was my GOTY last year. If you're comparing everything to Ori, you will be...disappointed. Accept the fact that not everything is spectacular, or find something in another genre that is.

Guacamelee, Valdis Story, Momodora 4, Rabi Ribi
>>
>>336157239
Get Guacamelee. Ignore the memes and have fun.

I never played Ori
Does it have instances like Dust or is it all interconnected
>>
Apotheon

It's heavily combat based

>>336158986
interconnected

If you can't find any decent Metroidvanias to play, just go back to their roots and play classics like Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon's Trap.
>>
>>336158407

this, short and too easy though

solid 8/10

wat
>>
>>336159417
Google it. It is one of the best games of its time. It's a true classic and a great Metroidvania. Btw, the Wonder Boy series heavily inspired Shantae.

>>336158360
Ori had great acrobatics and environmental interaction in lieu of heavy action and bosses. Really, no two games are alike and I can't think of another Metroidvania that's exactly like it. Teslagrad has a lot of upgrades but it's not as bouncy as Ori, and the gameplay has more of a logic puzzle focus, though the boss encounters, especially the later ones, are highly skill based, adding an interesting mix.

The Swapper is similar in this regard, though it is much more a puzzle platformer, but with a large range of different things you can do with a relatively simple mechanic

Why you want isn't a Metroidvania but an atmospherinc eerie game. Play Heart of Darkness.

Yeah, you can REALLY see it in Monster World IV.

>>336160515
Backing this up if what you want is amazing animation and atmosphere.

already played looooooong time ago.
i still have my blood pressure high

I'm in the same boat. The new area and moves were fun, but all it did was make me want a sequel even more

So what did you fags think of the definitive edition?

>>336161765
I'd only be okay with a sequel if it takes what worked in the first game and does something fresh with it, instead of just being a repeat of the first game with more polish and content like the vast majority of vidya sequels

Dash was awesome, light grenades were fun to use too. Best skill imo still is the jumping off projectiles. Really fun

I almost lost my shit when I realized that you can dash infinitely

I completely lost my shit when I started using charge dash in conjuction with bash gliding and ended up going so fast that the game had trouble loading in the next area
>>
Anyone take the plunge on chronicles of teddy?
The gfx look kind of shit, but i can live with that if the game isn't bad.
>>
>>336157239
Just beat the DE too. Game is wonderful.

>>336163047
Pretty good, although the story bits they added were so throwaway that I'm not sure why they even bothered.

Dash is fucking amazing. Being able to chain charge jump and charge dash just lets you break everything.
>>
>>336163367
Did the combat skill for light grenades improve them? They seemed pretty useless on actual enemies, at least in the face of all the other overpowered stuff you get. Not that combat is particularly important.

Being able to do an early high jump by chaining grenades in classic Metroid bomb jump fashion made me really happy though.

The grenades do pretty poor damage even with the upgrade and are generally redundant since you have so many better options when it comes to murdering enemies, BUT WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THAT WHEN YOU CAN BASH OFF OF THEM
>>
>>336158851
Jesus anon, how many games in your life have yoy played? Ori is a painfully mediocre game. It's pretty but that's all it is. Calling it a goty is a disgrace
>>
>>336166467
Thank god for that. Made Forlorn Ruins way easier and faster.
