Are fighting games esports?
>>
no and they never will be
i predict this whole "esports fighting game" shit will crash in a year
>>
Why didn't you protect that smile?
>>

More fucking eSports than fucking Dota clones.

I mean, I know why ASSFAGGOTS are popular. The game's skill ceiling is about as low as an ugly dwarf's standards for a cheap whore, which makes "top-tier" gameplay accessible to the vast majority of players. But that's the worst fucking reason for a "sport" to be fucking popular at all. Watch sports to see dudes doing shit you couldn't even remotely imagine doing. Not shit you did in a match last night that failed for you, but is working for this dude on the stream right now.
This is what makes Fighting Games and Starcraft such attractive options for "eSports". The ultra-high skill ceiling. Top-Tier players in both will STEAMROLL average players with techniques and skills they literally couldn't have imagined. APMs that destroy casual players, and chess-like prediction of moves with appropriate counters knowing how many frames they have to respond in. The knowledge and talent of players is obvious in Fighting Games and Starcraft. Unlike ASSFAGGOTS
>>
How can gootecks afford to go to all these events?
>>
>>335904949
people bought his book on how to become a good player
>>
>>335905002
Why not just save the money?
He obviously can't compete anymore.
>>
No it's a competitive video game.
Sports are contests of physical ability by nature, making competitive videogames closer to that of chess or golf than sports.
>>
>>335905149
they're not sports, they're esports

yes but not to the same extent as real sports or popular e-sports
>>
>>335904420
I'm a bit confused by the webm, why does Gootecks look distraught when he won?

This, and I hope it stays that way.

E-sports has only been damaging to hype and excitement at tournaments.
>>
>>335905516
Gootecks was actually r mika
>>
>>335905516
goddamn, you're a dumb one
>>
>>335905572
>>335905682
fuck, sorry guys it's like 6am here i just woke up.
>>
>>335904535
you realize fighting games were eSport when nobody even used the term eSport yet, right? It always was, it always will.
>>
I feel bad for gooey. He should have gone full personality instead of pretending to be a pro

Also yes but people want to keep it real and the good kind of shitty where comentators can still say retard
>>
>>335904535
It's getting stronger if anything.

>>335907157
If you mean Tougeki, yeah, that started in 2000. Too bad it's suspended forever now.
>>
>>335904420
Got a link to the whole fight anon
>>
>>335907805
Well sf is getting stronger. Other companies really need a pro tour/better support in general.
>>
>>335907446
isn't mike a better player nowadays?
>>
>>335907934
MK and KI are also doing it now. Plus Pokken.

But it's not like it'll matter once Riot unleashes their LoL fighter and pour all their esport cash to it and dominate the field.
>>
>>335907970
Not really, if he put the same effort into training he would be
>>
>>335908078
>Plus Pokken
LOL
>>
>>335908078
>implying anyone will play a reskin of rising thunder
Also SNK is starting a KoF cup thing too.
>>
>>335908078
Mk and ki do events but not the tour, which is the real trick to lasting support. Like texas showdown had 300 odd for sf but only 70 for mk and ki each. Pokken is doing it right but it was pretty much sidelined from the start

Lol fighter really is a complete unknown, it could change the whole scene or get a huge meh
>>
Only SF has the potential to be big enough and attract sellouts along with the broader gaming population. The rest can try but they're too niche. Melee too if you count it.
>>
>>335908291
>F2P
>LoL IP
>possible crossplay between PC and consoles (lets be real, this would be THE perfect chance to put the property on PS/Xbox and they'll grab that shit)
>MOBA level support for a fighting game, including cash prices

No way this isn't going to be anything but a big deal.
>>
>>335907970
on a previous CPT Mike BTFO'd Kbrad pretty hard

it was glorious
>>
>>335908470
KoF is actually pretty massive thanks to China.
>>
>>335908572
It will be a pot-monster game at best due to the inevitable low skill ceiling.
>>
>>335908470
Other games like mk sell enough to, but they don't keep people interested for the next year/s

>>335908572
It could be, but lol fans may just not like the style of game, it could be dull to watch/play etc. There are loads of factors that effect it like any game
>>
>>335908572
Don't forget, if it's patched like a normal online pc game it will get fixes far quicker than any other fighter on the market right now. That's got to count for something.

>>335908705
You are underestimating how much room there is in fighting games for things like fundamentals and spacing. Doesn't RT only simplify execution?
>>
>>335908792
And the old fighting game players with both good spacing and execution will come in and dominate the fledgelings with only good spacing, just like RT.
>>
>>335908792
RT also added cooldowns so you couldn't spam moves.
>>
>>335908792
Bugs usually aren't a huge issue in fighting games, even sfv with some big ones didn't stop events. Constant updates to the gameplay though fucks up a scene though
>>
>>335908972
SFxT had tons of bugs on release.
>>
>>335908972
>Constant updates to the gameplay though fucks up a scene though

They will run it like any esport and have "seasons" where the balance isn't changed. It'd be nice to not have to keep buying different versions of a fighting game very year, I think.
>>
>>335908942
That is as it should be. The day someone of higher skill doesn't completely dominate someone with less is the day I stop playing fighting games.
>>
>>335908792
RT simplified and sterilized everything.
If street fighter is the vanilla iced cream of fighters, RT is just chilled cream and rock salt.
>>
>>335909134
>They will run it like any esport and have "seasons" where the balance isn't changed
They literally JUST did a big balance change midseason for LoL.
>>
>>335904420
>>335904636
Gootecks is for bullying.
>>
>>335909050
And that wasn't what killed it

>>335909134
Which is what sfv is doing. Problem is with mobas they update midway through

Fighting game updates also tend to have more content
>>
>>335909263
>RT simplified and sterilized everything.
Game never made it past Alpha stage.
>>
>>335909327
>Fighting game updates also tend to have more content
Ok, even I know that's wrong.

His dream of becoming a true shill is a distant one.
>>
>the update with guile was like 7 gigs

wtf what is all in the update?
>>
do you think gootecks is salty that mike was able to get a cushy twitch/capcom job
>>
>>335909341
>online with completed models and movesets, animations, characters, cancel system, etc.
>>
>>335909412
Go compare xrd to revalator
>>
>>335909230
But that's not the E-sports way.
The guy with the most ads stapled to his onesie should win.
>>
>>335908589
Forgot about them. Don't they primarily play the older KoF games though?
>>
>>335909736
'97 seems to be a favorite, but I've also seen some '98-2000. 14 might change that though.
>>
>>335909230
His point is that rt saying it is great for new players doesn't hold true. You'll still get wrecked, it's just you won't be learning part of the skill needed for most games. And someone who lacks determination to learn a dp won't stick it out anyway
>>
>"I can't wait to play SFV where everyone is honest"
>proceeds to play mika the most fraudulent character
What a hypocrite
>>
>>335909134
Yearly editions of fighting games is a holdover from the arcade model.

Also the air port stage is actually nice. SFV has too many shitty stages.
