My recommendations:

-Silent Hill 1-4 (PS2, PC)
-Scratches (PC)
-Fatal Frame -games (PS2, Wii)
-Penumbra: Overture & Black Plague (PC)
-Afraid Of Monsters: Director's Cut (PC, HL1 mod)
-Cry Of Fear (PC, HL1 & standalone)
-Condemned: Criminal Origins (PC, PS3/360)
-Resident Evil REMAKE (GC, Wii, PC/PS3/360)
-Underhell: Chapter 1 (PC, Source mod)

Honorable mentions: STALKER trilogy, FEAR 1 + Expansions.

You can get SH1-4 for PC from these links:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack. Follow this Guide to get things working and looking good on modern PC.
>>
>>335630856
here's the recommended emulator settings for SH1. Works great on all other games too.

The plugins used are:
-Pete's OpenGL 1.78; (more options & better performance than 2.x version)
-Eternal's SPU Engine.

alternatively just use a software renderer for very 1:1 PS1-like graphics, including 240p only.
...OR just buy the game from PSN Store for few bucks.

Alien Isolation.

Not a perfect game by any means, but considering it's from Sega, and a team that's only known for doing strategy games, it's fucking awesome. Especially if you're an Aliens fan.

Fatal Frame 2/Project Zero 2 on PS2 or Wii, shit me up for weeks. Silent Hill 1-3 is also acceptable.

Clock Tower 3 is pretty tense and requires for your character to be constantly running from the bosses that follow you the entire map, The Rule of Rose is also very atmospheric but i didn't played it too much, there is also another one that is like The Rule of Rose but it's on a castle or some shit with another girl with a doggo.

I had a friend who kept going on about how scary this game was so bought it a few months ago but haven't played it yet. Don't know if it is any good but she seemed to love it. It's on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, XBOne and PC.
>>
Fatal Frame 1 is my favourite. I love my somewhat convoluted interconnected mansions.

Shadow Tower Abyss is fucking awesome too. It's not really a horror game but the mood is so dark and gameplay so stressful that it might as well be
>>
>>335634020
In the sense that it feels like everyone in the game wants to literally rape you.

Shattered Memories was entertaining and well-paced, albeit more of a thriller than the original Silent Hills.
>>
>>335635371
Agreed. It was definitely a lot better than a spinoff like it should have been. Definitely better than the actual main-line Silent Hill games that have come out in recent years.

>super rapey
>saying it like it's a bad thing

That's the main thing that makes the game's atmosphere interesting though. It genuinely made me feel uncomfortable and I'm not someone who cares about fictional rape.

That's a fair point. Like I said, it's a good game. I just can't really say too much about it, sense it's been years since I played it.

there are so many

hard to go wrong with Resident Evil and Silent Hill

RE1
RE2
RE3
RE4
RE Code Veronica
RE remake
RE 0

I think 5 is still good, but it's starting to become far removed from "horror" at that point

highly recommend Dino Crisis as well (same as with RE5, Dino Crisis 2 is good, but less horror)

Any recommendations for a group playing horror games together on PC?
I've got DreadOut and thinking of picking up F.E.A.R. 1. Already played through the most popular games like Outlast.
>>
>>335635518
The only problem with it was there wasn't enough variation based on things. I feel like if they explored the evaluation thing again it could be done better.

Imagine if the game asks you if you are still a virgin. Think of the things they could do with that considering silent hills love of using sexuality in its horror.
>>
>>335642989
And by playing horror games as a group, I mean surrounding a T.V. in real life, not over the internet.

Well, they do ask about your sexuality in regards to your time in high school, whether you think certain imagery is sexual, whether marriage can last, and where your eyes are going during certain conversations.
>>
Any good horror/mystery point-and-click games? Preferably first person POV stuff, I can't much stand 3rd person P&C.

My favorites are:
Scratches
Necronomicon: The Dawning of Darkness
Dark Fall: The Journal
Dark Fall II: Lights Out
Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream
>>
>>335643715
Yes, but I think it could go further. Since they had to trick you that you were the playing as someone you weren't at times they couldn't have a virgin option, which I think would have been way more interesting.

Another problem is most of the changes for high sexuality made the game more fanservicey than horror.

That's true enough. I think it's clever how the differences can play into the character interactions and different endings, but seeing different choices manifest in the horror department more would have been interesting.

The Doctor's part in I Have No Mouth always unnerves me, everything about it.

The game per se is fantastic but the whole secondary missions and secondary items you can only get after finishing certain missions is going to drive you insane, trust me

I've hardly raged so much at a horror game like in Alien Isolation
I played Hard because the game says it's the intended experience and the Alien pulled all sorts of bullshit from spawning and heading directly to me even though he couldn't know to not seeing enemies in front of it
The game would be a 10/10 if it weren't for that annoying problem

I've only played Blood Curse and I liked it. The aesthetics and story were very interesting, if not great.
The gameplay however was just okay, and a little too repetitive to be honest.
Now though, the thing that I really hated about the game was the full-on animu ending. That was a deal breaker.

Definitely agree
SOMA is a great horror game with some minor frustrating bits
The atmosphere is great, the voice acting is incredible for an indie game and the graphics and art direction are just fantastic
Not to mention the intro is extremely comfy

But what's really nice about SOMA is that it sets all sorts of question in your brain, wondering what Simon feels at the end or how it must feel to be back as what Simon is in an underwater facility after the humanity went extinct
I really loved this aspect of it and the ending was something that could come out of a cult movie

I had played Blood Curse myself before deciding to give Blood Curse a spin
Let's not mention the fact that emulation is a huge pain in the ass because the fog effects in many stages will force you to play with Software render at 15 frames or that Blood curse is basically a remake of Forbidden Siren
What's really important is that after a certain point you will need key items in some stages that you will have to figure out pretty much by yourself because the hints the game give you are not very helpful
This will force you to play each mission multiple times in an awful order because after finishing some missions, a previous mission will have either an item that needs to be moved for anotehr character or a door that needs to be open so that another character can proceed
This makes for a very frustrating experience spent looking at a guide and flipping out at the game's structure

Catherine? Please don't leave me alone...

Simon was slow on the uptake, but the ending still hits pretty hard.
>>
>>335649029
Well I started wondering about the whole matter when Simon duplicates his consciousness into another chip and I thought that it must have sucked to be into the old version
But I was fascinated by the fact that the game doesn't show you old Simon's perspective, only new Simon so you're left wondering for a brief moment before going down the elevator but you never really think that the same thing could happen to you
The ending was great but also very tragic because you now understand exactly what the game foreshadowed earlier
I loved it
>>
>>335649838
I thought it was fairly clear that Simon2.0 that we left behind was the one we had been playing up to that point

But it's still interesting, what with there being no real lapse in his memories, so Simon 3.0 is just in total denial, believing that his awareness will always be the one to switch over.

What I mean is that the game never shows how Simon 2.0 will wake up and see the consequences of what happened because the game switches you to Simon 3.0
But it doesn't at the end so you're forced to see the other side of the coin flip
I thought it was extremely clever
Overall, I found very very intresting the fact that life itself is dead and we're doomed, but our consciousness is copied somewhere and it will live for thousands of years in a virtual reality in a simulator
Both tragic and strangely comfortable
