New patents filed by Microsoft seem to indicate that the much-rumored hardware revisions for Xbox could become a reality, with signs pointing toward a slimmer model and possibly an upgraded model. Picked up by NeoGAF user Mike R, the first patent known as ‘Part 1683’ has strong ties to the existing Xbox One’s WLAN Module filings that were registered when the first console was unveiled. These ties are a user manual of the exact same size and the designated model number of “1525” indicates a user manual that is not yet available – practically guaranteeing some sort of new Xbox model will be on the way very soon. Crucially to speculation, the NDA for this patent officially expires on the 25th of June – Just after E3 closes its doors.

The other patent known as ‘Part 1682’ shares a similar structure, however it notably has a lot more attached ‘exhibits’ that suspiciously link to its own user manual as opposed to the 1525 user manual. This patent also documents that it utilizes a new wireless chip being registered and tested. The NDA for this model expires late in July as opposed to just after E3 – indicating that this model would be launching later than the slim.
To understand what this means, it’s important to look at Microsoft’s hardware history. In the past a new Xbox hardware slim revision typically goes on sale practically right after the announcement, being marketed as the new model and pushing the older, chunkier model out the door. This matches up with ‘Part 1683’ as the NDA is a week or so after E3 closes up. Part 1682’s patent gives a little more time and also seems to have it’s own specific manual which gives reason to believe this could be the Xbox with expanded capabilities.
I doubt MS will commit the same mistakes a second time. They will up any specs and price the PS4.5 has, they have the money to do so. Im going to guess they're waiting for Sony to make their move.

Here's the primary difference between the PS4K32X and the new Xbox 1.1.
The PS432X is a closed system and cannot be upgraded at any time in the future. Sony plans to release another upgraded model two years from now
Meanwhile the Xbox 1.1 is MODULAR. Meaning you can buy parts for it, and upgrade it as you see feet. You will never have to buy another Xbox 1.1 in it's lifespan. You can simply keep upgrading. It's basically a PC box now.

That won't work. One of the reasons people are ready to buy new phones is because lots of the software is free. In the case of games, just look at how many freenium games there are on the App Store or Google Play. This is great for Apple and Google, but horrible for mobile developers because only a tiny percentage of them make any money (let alone receive consistent income).
With a game console you still have high game prices to pay for. What's more, I don't think this is about adopting the model Apple uses at all. People look at Sony's console business from an incorrect perspective. Sony is not just a gaming company, but a huge electronics company. The Playstation is not a product they put out in isolation from all the other products they make. That's why they tried to push 3D on the PS3 to push their 3D TVs even though nobody wanted it. If Sony is going to make a big deal about the console being able to do 4K, then the reason why should be obvious (again, nobody will care though).
Finally, normal people don't care about "the hardware" as much as autists on imageboards would make you believe (so all the autistic arguing about whether the specs are good or not is pointless). They care about the games. That a game is made possible by the hardware is irrelevant to them (they don't "see" the hardware). So unless Sony is giving the new PS4 some interesting games to play then nobody will care.
The real reason that Sony is making something like this is because the PS4 is not doing what it's supposed to. On one hand, it's selling well. But software sales are in decline and this is exactly what they are supposed to be making money off (I'm not saying they aren't making money, they just aren't making enough). A new hardware product could offset the losses incurred as a result (it won't) and try to get more people to use the Playstation 'the right way".
