200 quests total. They said that includes main quest. Assuming a generous 1 main quest per hour for 50 hours leaves us with 150 left. But wait! They said various minigames and casual events such as fishing spots, taking tours through the city, cooking with ignis, taking pictures with prompto, playing darts or cards with the gang, ect also count as "quests". Lets be very, very generous, and assume that there are only 50 of these. Damn. so that leaves 100 quests left. But wait, they said generic monster hunts are the most common quest type! So at least 50 of those!
So finally, When being as generous as humanly possible with what they have told us, we only have 50 proper side quests. 50 quests spread across a 50 hour game. This means that there is only a single, 1, sidequest per main quest.
DAMN.

They straight up blatantly said that it will have less sidequests than other open world games and that the game is not focused on sidequests at all. They said 200 quests are currently in the game. This number includes the main quests (which the game informer team counted 3 of in Chapter 1 alone), Kill X of Y monster messenger board quests (chosen humorously from a craigslist like app on the characters Cellphone), casual minigame stuff (like going on canoe rides or going fishing), and the more typical and generic type of sidequests- which Tabata went out of his way to say there wouldn't be much of. He even went as far to say that this shouldn't even be considered the typical type of open world- he said it is more like moving from one hub location to the next hub location, but with some backtracking elements and a wider, "open world" scale.

Yes. HOWEVER- there are two types of magic. Only "Elemental" Magic, Fire, Lightning, Ice- is consumable. You do not by them in stores. You explore in the environment and harvest raw materials, ores, and crystal like shit. Then you synthesize it together to create elemental magic. So it is consumable, but it is tied to a crafting and harvesting system. It gives you a reason to explore the world and look for stuff I guess.
