Atelier Sophie does have few ties to the Dusk series but it's really a new start in it's own trilogy.
Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force is basically the original game with more content added on.

That makes sense because every time I say the combat and alchemy is fun, and that there is tonnes of content and end game bosses, end game recipe and that I am discovering new item properties and attributes every day. They tell me I am only playing the game because of otaku pandering loli porn.
My biggest tip for sophie would be to not use a guide. The game gives you all the information you need to know. Discovering new item properties by trial and error made me feel like i was doing science and magic at the same time. This was the first atelier game that made me feel like an alchemist. The other games make you feel more like an adventurer looking for items with the properties you want.

Linear Muramasa would've killed the game entirely. The combat is good, but locking you into a bunch of successive rooms would've become incredibly dull incredibly quickly. Being able to wander around as you like, fight stuff you like, and do what you like between story areas was a good way of handling it.
Dragon's Crown was already quite linear, so I don't know what you are talking about there. Sure, you could stage select, but you were pretty much playing through the same stage with minor variations each run.

And as for me, I think Muramasa did it just fine. If you hate backtracking, you could have just used the bronze mirror to warp. While most other players realize that the 'backtracking' is done to give you more time to fight stuff and level up. Which is you know, the actual gameplay.
