Is it a good successor to Clock Tower?

I haven't had much time to play it yet, and I've only got Monica up the elevator so far.

>get the keys to the deck via the cafe, avoiding the Scissorman twice (Rebecca scene was pretty cool btw)

>have to start the whole level over

I figure it was because I didn't have my light on when I went through the door but these deaths really get my salt up.

Is there a third way to drive off the Scissorman in the first level? You can only use the closet once, Monica blows the whole pepper spray can in one go, and you can't hide under the beds or in the (kek) laundry dryer. Since two of your encounters are required, it seems like you're permanently fucked if you trigger the food freezer scene.

I only played the first (SNES) Clock Tower, but it seems to be pretty faithful so far.

You can also hide behind the desk at the shop.

You can manually save by charging your phone, if you're unaware. The game doesn't really explicitly explain it.
