How're your guy's playthroughs? Did anyone go in a different direction? Are they easier than going west or all the same? Share tips and tricks since it's only just come out and no-one really knows what to do yet.
Some things that helped me out:
>Dash isn't an iframe.
>Don't dash through enemies while they are attacking you. Dash away/to the side.
>Most melee enemies I encountered so far will charge for a brief moment before dash-attacking you. Usually they attack in the direction you are when they begin animation, but sometimes they will change to your new location. Beware of this.
>Get the sword skill upgrade for dash-attack ASAP. It's super useful against crowds and does 2 damage per hit. It uses up your stamina though.
>You can only dash three times in a row before requiring a brief, half-second cooldown before you can dash again. Keep this in mind.
>In the dash upgrade shop, the first upgrade (the A + A one if you're using Xbox controller like me) seems pretty useless. Not sure what it's meant to do in the game but nothing feels different at all. Avoid unless someone can clarify it's use/how to use it (button prompt doesn't seem to work for me if it's meant to at all).
>You NEED to explore off the path. A lot of shit required to progress (keys mostly, or at least I think they're keys) are only found by finding semi-hidden paths.
Also, does anyone understand the story at all? All I have so far is:

After I killed two bosses there was another drifter in the town who looked to be of a different race, but also had the cough that the main character has. It's probably something that affects all drifters. The opening cutscene has your blood turn into the shadow monsters after all.

The content the game has is great, alright.
But the problem is that there's only about 5 hours of it. I started playing this morning and already finished. I'll replay it once probably, but that 5 hours of content (maybe 7 if you explore every single thing) just isn't enough for 20$

From what I can tell, enemies respawn only once you've left the whole area. So if you leave the whole East area, the enemies will respawn, but if you stay in East area they wont respawn.
As for upgrades, Chain dash and Heavy slash are probably the most important ones to get first as the first are even required for some of the puzzles I think and the other does heavy fucking damage. I can oneshot the sword fags with it, but since it requires chargeup it can be a bit risky.
Grenade should be gotten after that since it's pretty damn good for clearing large waves of low HP enemies.

Game is pretty fuckin great desu. I love the responsiveness of the combat and the amount of last-frame dodges you can pull off. I haven't even unlocked many of the special moves yet and I'm already doing cuhrazy dashes around. Chaining moves is fun, I like shooting a bullet at an enemy and immediately dashing them and hitting them to burst 2HP monsters down.

The magician guy needs the charge slash. You can transitian to 2nd phase the first time he teleports to middle if you pull off 3 charge slashes.

That is a good point, I have the dash-projectile shield, which also helped a lot just letting me get free hits on him during his shooting phase.
Eventually got him down because he doesn't get that much crazier as the fight goes on like the other two.
I went north from the hub, basically had the same situation. The bird boss took me probably 20+ tries.
I bought the 2nd sword upgrade first (bullet deflection) cause that seemed like it'd increase my survivability a lot. I've got 4 triangles so far and I found a door that has 4 slots, but I can't seem to open it yet. Killed boss, got 4th shard, taking a break. Playtime so far: 95 min.
Gotta say, I'm enjoying this so far, but I wish the characters spoke, and I wish I could use the D pad on my xbone controller instead of the clunky joystick.

Nah mate, if you can't even finish a playthrough of a game, even if it's more than a few hours, then you didn't like it as much as you thought. And this isn't some hundreds of hours time-sink Elder Scrolls game or something, you can beat a game like Okami in like a week at a relaxed pace.
Something about it felt like it was becoming a chore to play for you, I can understand that. But people who really love a single player game are always excited to see what's coming next as long as there's new content to discover. This isn't a problem of it being too long, there was simply some aspect of the game that kept you from wanting to keep playing it. And no, it wasn't just "Oh I have to keep playing."
Games should absolutely be as long as possible while maintaining a steady flow of new things to experience. Obviously I'm not talking about shitty games that pad the fuck out of themselves and become overly repetitive.
