I've tried to like it, I really have, I wanted to love this game. This entire concept for a game is practically made for me.

It's totally fine. Combos still do 30-50% HP even with scaling. The system is there to reward you for making reads with big damage like your Burst rather than always confirming into it. The only reason to be upset with this is if you think inescapable Zero to Deaths are ok.

Every time I try to play in the air I get ganked hard in field mode because I jump 2 seconds after I hit the damn button.
Have a fine time blocking. But then I just get slammed on until my shield breaks in any mode, and if I try to get out to do things I get hit, without fail.

If you hold a direction and push block while charging a counter you'll cancel the attack and dash in the direction you held. You can use this to approach through some projectiles.
