What's the best large scale warfare games? Ever since playing battlefield I can't go down 5 or 8 guys on each team. The ones I can think of are

Multi:
Battlefield
Planetside
Battlefront
Enemy territory?
Home front?
Those muso things

Single player
Darkest days
Call of duty (campaigns)
Viking battle of asgoth
Pikmin (I still get that feeling here, but don't really count)

TL;DR
Large scale war games thread.
>>
Gary Grigsby's War in the East/West

I would really like a war game that deals heavily with logistics. So many games ignore that aspect of war.

>Darkest of days

Good taste. I fucking loved how large scale this was

>them small scale open world maps running around with fuckhueg squads of like 30 NPC's
>seeing other squads and companies camped around the place
>huge fucking battles

Such an underrated game.

Does it have to be any certain genre? A lot of RTS games can have really large battles. Cossacks is one of the ones that allow the most people fighting I think.

Mount and Blade can also have lots of people.
>>
>>331623926
I think it should be an action genre
>>
>>331623751
That game looks pretty neat, but I mean games where you're in the real shit, in the nitty gritty. Strategy doesn't get that same feeling usually. More personal, more comradery.
>>
>>331623896
>logistics

Hell I would just like to see ammunition being a concern for once.
>>
>>331623926
Rts and Strategy is good too. It feels, different though. Being a commander and seeing war unfold out your control on the field are two different but good feelings. That pic looks sweet though. Is that cossacks? And mount and blade is a good example
>>
>>331623896
A lot of hex and counter wargames are focused around operational level of war. Go take a look at the catalogue in Matrixgames or other wargame publishers. And then there's of course /tg/ wargames as well, The Campaign for North Africa in particular is infamous for simulating logistics in such detail that it's virtually unplayable.
>>
>>331623896
That game's great, I wish they would have a sequel, like they teased the sword era dudes and that would be cool to see more of.
>>
>>331624339
Yeah it's Cossacks. They're actually making a new one that should be out soon that'll allow 10,000 units at least in a game. I can never find any accurate information for the unit caps in the original games but it seems it was either 8,000 total or 8,000 per player, at least in the last expansion for the first game.
>>
>>331624441
That's sounds great, I'm pretty shit at Rts but even so. Sounds great
>>
>>331624245

>no game where troop transportation is a thing
>no supply convoys
>no ammunition air drops
>no bombing enemy trainlines causing mechanized divisions to run out of fuel meaning soldiers have to march
>villages get pillaged by starving enemy army now because of your actions

Fuck me dead why isn't this a thing yet?
>>
Wargame European Escalation/Red Dragon
>>
>>331623896
Arma3, depending on the gamemode. you usually have to send troops and equipnent with trucks or cargo helicopters to provide resupplies

Wargame also has logistic with units consuming fuel and ammo, but is an RTS
>>
>>331624579
Actually metal gear solid five of all things has that to a surprising degree.

Side missions were you attack enemy me supply lines carryover in the open world gameplay. Take out a radio tower and they can't call in reinforcement. Take out rations and ammunition supplies and they're easy picking.
>>
>>331624579
Because wargames tend not to have visibility in the mainstream (and often aren't even available in popular publishing platforms like Steam, never mind retail) but that doesn't mean they aren't a thing. Take a look at games like War in the East or War in the Pacific, they simulates even minutiae like conversion of railroad track gauge before you can use the captured railroads for transportation.

>>

I've heard of this one. Isn't the community real autismo with voice chat? Cause I don't have that.
>>
>>331625420
I mean it depends. But usually you can just get away with text/the voice hotkey command things
>>
>>331625107

Alright I put War in the East on my steam wishlist. Looks like Grand Strategy though.

>>331625246

I forgot but I have this, it's fucking good. Even trumps Men of War in realism. I haven't played too much but does it do logistics well?

>>331624915

Is that online or single player though?

>>331625004

I didn't want to play MGSV because it looks like it shits all over the rest of the series like MGS4 did. But if I can play it as a logistics simulator and ignore the story, maybe I can enjoy it.

Nobody has said Panzer Corps/Panzer General?

Or are we just talking about large scale shooters?
>>
>>331625480
arma 3 has both, you can even make a co-op campaing against AI
>>
>>331626028

I might consider it if it's on sale but ever since I tried Arma 3 in early access I was put off buying it in full. It was janky as fuck. Is it better now?
>>
>>331626182
yes, only problem is that you need groups of friends for the best experience

Hearts of Iron
>>
>>331626457

I have 1 friend who has it, the rest of my friends are casual plebs though. I'd have to join a clan or something right.

I might get it next sale. Is there an easy enough editor or custom match maker where I can just set AI ally NPC's and have fuckhueg battles with them against enemy AI?

>>331626617

I have this in my backlog, I need to finish playing EU3 first though.
>>
the larger the group the less organized it gets. I know what you're looking for in vidya, I am also looking for it, I've tried ARMA, Squad and PR and its all been disappointing
>>
>>331626827
>I'd have to join a clan or something right.
Oh god no, Arma 3 clans are come of the biggest try hards on the planet. Avoid them like the fucking plague.
>>
>>331625420
The community can pretty much either pure autism or an organized machine. Mostly the autism is concentrated on the Insurgent teams, thats when it acts up the most and also during certain times of the day more kids will be on screaming memes and misusing resources. The community does very much prefer that you use voice chat, it is incredibly necessary in order to communicate with the rest of your squad. Text chat and voice commands just won't work. Despite the autism, I'd reccomend playing it, I do at least once a week if not more. Get a 5 buck mic, read the manual and join a Teamwork Server. Lots of fun to be had.

>>331627049
>come
some
>>
>>331627027
From what I've played in ARMA you'd have to establish a group to play with and not just some randoms if you want consistent organization. In PR its really on and off with the organization, sometimes you get a bunch of memers that have no idea what they're doing and sometimes you get a well organized team of cool guys.

Maybe, guy. I'll have to see if my toaster will even run it well.
>>
>>331626182

arma was and probably always will be janky as fuck

but its the only autistic war experience

And thats only if you have a decent bunch of dudes to play with otherwise your average online shithead plays arma like your usual deathmatch and the maps are fuckhuge, in this game you literally NEED vehicles to get around
>>

It's a mod for a game that's over a decade old, i seriously doubt your toaster's that bad.

You could try C&C: Renegade X. Not many servers left but you can usually find at least one 40-player match during the day, and the mix of strategy and hectic action is up there with Battlefield's glory days.

mah nigger

im playing the modern mod atm and bringing back the 4th reich. So far im at like the 5th lvl or something NATO military sanctions and they are all too scared to declare war on me.

I've taken over Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia (Actually lasted 2 months against me for a 3 province country), Slovakia, and a couple other slavshit countries, I'm halfway through conquering sweden and I'm moving my fleet into position to launch a surprise attack on ireland.

>mfw i have nearly 400 ic and im pumping out like 50 armoured divisons a year
>>
>>331627715
;) you'd be suprised
>>
>>331627773
I found it far too easy to set up a spawn rape in Renegade X.
>>
>>331627621

I've always been on the fence about getting it simply because of the "you need a lot of friends" aspect. I don't have a working mic either. I tried Project Reality and loved it but without a mic coordinating was hard.

I live in Australia too so my internet is shit tier and restricts me to local people for anything online related unless I want 500 ping and as I said before my mates are fucking plebs. I'd have to join a clan.

>>331627428

I have 2 of those three games faggot.

Men of War is one of my favorite games of all time but refueling your vehicles is rare, and having to resupply ammo to your guys is fun but could be more in depth.

It's because Men of War is small scale tactics, I really appreciate that it does include logistics of troops, fuel and supply but it's so small scale that its uncommon except with ammo and unit inventory. And then your average vehicle or soldier is likely to die before needing resupply anyways.

>>331623658
Defcon? I mean you can't go much larger than Global Thermonuclear War without stepping into 4X territory.

Spawn rape is part of the game since oppression is a viable tactic in RenX. Besides, if you're spawn raping, odds are you're killing basic-tier characters for paltry points/creds, and it's only a matter of time before enough people spawn in different buildings to mass up and charge you.
>>
>>331628238
Nah it lasted for a good 15 minutes and just got extremely boring. I'm sure the game can be fun but from what i've played it just seemed like a glorified game of whack-a-mole, just slaughtering defenseless faggots as they came out of spawn, i can only imagine how much more boring it would have been on the receiving end.
>>
>>331624579

If you are thinking about those "dynamic battlefield" mechanics in a action game, Yeah, pretty hard. One i remember does come close.were the space ship battles in Star wars battlefront 2. Depending on the actions of your team (specially if you were crazy enough to sabotage the enemy), you destroyed several important systems that changed the battlefield.

You could destroy the shields to deal heavy dmg on the Mother ship, you could disable enemy automatic turrets, you could disable life support (which i believe cut disabled healing inside the ship), you could destroy engineering so you the ships spawned at a slower rate (i think). You could destroy the communication area, so the team loses communication. That was what made It my favorite game mode
>>
>>331629107

Yeah I have Battlefront 2 it's brilliant. The space battle mode was really underrated. Boarding the enemy's capital ship was a raiding party was such a cool feeling.

Made more all the more exited when I heard that BF3 was gonna have ground and space battles on the same map. I was thinking of spawning inside a cruiser, jumping into a landing ship with a full squad and just dropping down through the atmosphere avoiding AA fire and pouring out of the lander once it hit the ground. God I am just getting exited just remembering it.

Nobunaga's ambition?
>>
Anyone play The Seed: Warzone? There's a battlefield economy in the salvaging of materials needed for ships so much so that losing even one ship hurts - on top of a credits penalty. Your supplies (ship parts and ammunition for different weapon types) are also locked to the base you put them into.
