Dark Souls isn't an RPG. It's hack-and-slash, and anyone claiming otherwise is deluding themselves. What can you do in Dark Souls besides fighting? That's right, absolutely nothing, so it doesn't qualify as an RPG. It's on the same level as something like Diablo.
In fact, Dark Souls is the worst game I've played in years.
Story was poorly told and I felt so disconnected to the point where I couldn't care less.
Very, very linear.
Combat was clunky, boring and extremely slow with very few animations.
Characters had all the personality of a dead rat
Graphics and character models were poor.
Constantly respawning miles away with all enemies reset very nearly tipped my temper over the edge, always hated that in old age games, never had the temperament for it.
Very difficult just for the sake of it and was poorly done.
Therefore Dark Souls is up on my personal list of 'worst ever games' alongside Two Worlds.

Two completely different games. Dark Souls has great gameplay and a decent story, Witcher has a great story and decent gameplay. Both are incredibly fun for different reasons.

I prefer Dark Souls series over Witcher. Witcher focuses solely on story which doesn't appease me, but other people do like it. I prefer gameplay and hard difficult of Souls series.

I never liked dark souls combat, if it was 3-4 times faster with the same exact mechanics, it would be great.
It's not even hard, once you git gud or more like git accustomed, there's so many enemy start up frames you can abuse to dodge.
I found W3's combat more enjoyable even if it has less depth.

The entire Souls series is dull with slow awkward mechanics, nonexistent story and is just plain boring and repetitive. Were it not for their perceived high difficulty and japanese origin, they'd have rightfully faded from gaming history as below average hack and slashes claiming to be rpgs.
