Square Enix's Shinra Technologies Dissolved in 2.2 Billion Yen Loss
Square Enix's cloud-based gaming service Shinra Technologies is being shut down, with the company suffering an "extraordinary loss" of 2.2 billion yen.
According Square's announcement, Shinra Technologies Japan and its New York branch are being dissolved. Liquidation of the New York and Tokyo divisions are estimated to be complete by March 31, 2019 and June 30, 2016, respectively.

It was pretty much NVIDIA GRID, i.e. rendering the content on a server farm somewhere and then sending it to the user's system. This works okay for stuff like CAD where you can wait a few milliseconds for it to update with your changes, but this doesn't work okay for video games.

FFXIV is a cash cow currently, but it won't remain that way if they keep rehashing old content that the community hates. They've received enough backlash they publicly recognized how fucked end game is & promised to fix it.
