I legit think Rising will go down as one of the all-time great vidya. The only faults I can think of is that it was a bit short and the aesthetics of the levels were a bit bland aside from the first one or so. Other than that:

Seriously though, I think it might have something to do with Rising actually having fun, intense gameplay rather than walking from one cutscene to another like in Uncharted.

Wonderful 101, although with the controls apparently it's more a of a love it or hate it kind of game.
If you take the time to master the mechanics though, it's one of the most deep and unique hack 'n' slash games on the market.

Rising honestly isnt that great, I have no clue why most of /v/ praises it. I want to say its because most of people who played it are MGS fans who had never touched a good action game before like Ninja Gaiden Black and didnt want to play bayonetta because ew icky girls. it's rude to assume, but then again most of these same people couldnt figure out how to parry and think Bladewolf is a casual filter so it's kinda of hard not to.
Its fun, I'll give it that, but the characters are hardly memorable besides Armstrong, the boss battles are easy as shit even on hard except for Armstrong who offers an actual challenge, and the music is pretty trash for the most part. Except for fucking Armstrong's theme.
Everything up until Armstrong isn't a chore but MGR is really a bizzaro platinum game where everything is rather ho-hum until the final boss fight. Typically their games are great until the final boss.
That's not God Hand. Fun game tho.

Blocking was broken because you can keep tapping forward while pressing square then block everything the enemy threw at you without thinking. Despite all the huge flaws Rising is still one of the most memorable games of last gen that felt like a game and not some attempt at art or whatever bullshit.

I liked Uncharted for what it was. Uncharted 2 was probably the best for me because Drake really fleshed out as a character. They shit the bed with 3.
Rising was fun and flashy but ultimately, shallow and didn't really make sense with Raidens character.
Also, stealth matters in one, does not matter in another. /v/ is just contrarian as fuck, especially against AAA titles.
Gonna have to agree wih you on most parts. Once i got the polearm, shit got turned up to 11. I was really disappointed with how short the game was, though.

Biggest problem with 3 desu is that it's obviously unfinished. With 3 I was most intrigued by the villains, there was clearly supposed to be some big reveal with them but it never happened. The preppy guy getting shot in the heart but then appearing without a scratch seconds later, again the preppy guy literally vanishing into thin air after giving Cutter the hypno drug, planting the tower card on Cutter 60 minutes prior to his legs snapping, etc I was expecting some crazy reveal that they were aliens or beings from another dimension, something fucking crazy like that and...just nothing. They didn't explain fuck all. Again, I guess it's because they ran out of development time. It's like in the final act, why the fuck does the whole city start crumbling down? Just because of a grenade?

Have not bothered with that but I have beaten the game on very hard. I'll admit Armstrong was a real bitch but the bossfights are really the only highlight of this game.
It's just a very simplistic combat system with a pretty poor balance, the game encourages you to do Zan-Datsu all the time, and it constantly breaks up the gameplay. The rating system is also not very good as you can see; spent 2 hours on Armstrong and still got away with a B.
It just doesn't hold a candle to other games in the genre. It's about as good as DmC I would say.

Nah DmC, at least the first version, is below Rising. I gave zero fucks about replaying DmC but was at least interested enough in Rising to complete all difficulties and most VR missions. DmC has godawful enemy design and bosses but decent depth due to what it copies form other DMC games.

I never said MGR didn't do stuff better than DmC did. But their pros and cons sort of evens them out.
DmC has better combat depth thanks to ape'ing old DMC, and has some cool stuff like gun cancels and chains between weapon combos.
MGR is fine, but is super barebones. There isn't much in the way of cancels, there's blade mode cancel, but that's pretty much it. MGR has more fun story and bosses though. DmC beats it in depth, art and variety; but it has a much weaker difficulty, bosses and story.
Their both fine games, but not much more than that, they're fine. Compared to stuff like DMC, Bayo and Ninja Gaiden, they feel very shallow.
