Why is early access so shit? I want to believe it can bring good but almost every game I see never gets finished.
>>
Because if the developers already have money they have less incentive to finish the game

Now imagine how fucked gaming would be in socialism
>>
>>322627239
I'm just a brainless consumer so I wouldn't know shit but I assume it has something to do with the fact that the developer receives the money he/she wants before the game finished which diminishes motivation for completing something when you've already been paid

>You bought Dirt: Rally
>It gets 4 massive updates in the next 3 weeks, including a complete redesign of the handling physics, doubling the number of maps and cars, and adding two new race types

I've always been fond of Codemasters, I felt like they just like racing games and make them no bullshit. They've struggled with Dirt being too much of an arcade game, similar to Grid, but Dirt Rally is the ideal PC Rally Racing Simulator. Built ground up for PC, no flashbacks, no fancy menus, just pick a map, pick a car, and fucking drive.
>>
>>322627342
Aaaaaaand first post nails it.

Humans naturally choose the path of least resistance. If your game is already a success before its finished, what reason do you have to continue?

Believing people will do shit solely out of goodwill is a naive world view, people need a carrot on a stick for motivation.

This is completely possible in capitalism. Go into contract work and dont accept contracts that you think arent fair value to you. >>
>>322627239
Early access is shit because as a general practice you don't release something that can't stand on its own. Plenty of games get released in what could be considered an unfinished state, but it's finished enough that you can still sell the thing and it doesn't look like you're cheating your customers.

State of Decay comes to mind. That game was a buggy, unbalanced mess on release, but it got better as time went on and the devs patched shit and reworked a bunch of issues. They COULD have not fixed a thing and it would still have been an OK game. It wasn't in such a sorry shape that people bought it based on a sales pitch and then found themselves disappointed that development had ground to a halt due to a variety of issues.
>>
>>322627995
yes they have. you no longer need to find a BP to make a code lock

its not a bug either you fuckin moron

build a house, use a temporary key and lock while you build a furnace and get metal frags, then build a code lock
>>
>>322633215
>>322627995

also you can make an infinite amount of copies of the key, you can make stashes to bury underground near your house that you could put your key in, you can put copies of your key inside your house so that if you die, you can still get out

at least play the game before talking shit
>>

>>
I bought Prison Architect on early access, and I enjoyed it a lot.

Early Access is a flawed system though since you are giving them money before even finishing the game.
>>
>>322627239
I usually tend to look up developers and publishers as well as who's working on a game before i try early access. If the publisher's reliable enough they're obviously not going to be fooling around with something not worth their time.

A good example was Crypt of the Necrodancer. I love Danny Baranowsky's work and Klei helped with publishing, and i enjoy most of Klei's work. Overall I found it very enjoyable.

Spend a little more time before you buy an early access game and you might find some gems in the rough.
>>
Would be a better model if there was repercussions for failing to deliver.

There's been too many shitty kickstarters that have failed to deliver anything close to what was promised.

DayZ hasn't had a damn update worth mention since ever. Even H1Z1 is better.

Why would they need to finish the game if they already have your money? You're an idiot who just got played.

"gamers" are fucking stupid. Like really fucking stupid. Fucking children and adult children buying in to shit because of hype. People like OP are cancer, buying unfinished games, buying DLC on day one, paying for shit that has no effect on anything (hats anyone?). The fuck is wrong with you?!
>>
>>322627342
>Now imagine how fucked gaming would be in socialism

The way you seem to implying it, the company would be state controlled. It would get finished but the game would have an agenda.

Game companies get huge subsidies, like the massive corporations that exist in america. Is that the effect of socialism too? You know, the shit you seem to prefer being kept afloat by public money?

You know nothing about socialism.

Early access is only good when it is done by established developers that already have all the money they need to finish the game and are only using early access to better develop the game with community feedback. If early access is essential to the completion of the game, then it indicates developers without the capacity to properly develop a game, or worse, a scam.

It runs fine. Let me spell it out for you:
> People whine about poor optimization
> They take a week to fix it
> People whine about not having enough new features
> They add in a mass of new shit next week
> It breaks the optimization and people start whining about it again
At least it's not as poorly optimized as Fallout 4.

They managed to not fix a memory leak for nearly 2 months
The game also eats ram worse than chrome, and frequently crashes because of low memory. Then again i dont give a shit I played it for 300 hours and actually had fun, one of the few games ive enjoyed that much rreally
