Undertale was unimpressive. It had a lot of potential with the demo. I finished both pacifist and genocide. I thought that, in the end:
-The characters were not all that interesting despite everyone making a big deal of almost any single one of them (even the faggot backer... thing) with Sans being pretty much the only thing bringing the genocide run. You could see there was a huge lack of inspiration in creating characters such as Undyne, I almost begin to think that it would have been better off as a menacing warrior without a voice.
-With that, it's almost as if 40% of the game is just like toby decided to grab stuff from random animes, another 40% to appeal to the masses of cool kids that use the internet a bit too often and just a 20% of actually interesting shit. I did like the secret lab more than the rest of the game, if only because it was highly unexpected to get in such a place at such time.
-The battle system was the most disappointing part for me. Because it shows that it could work fairly well but it works badly considering that there's very little strategy to it in the current game. You're given very few options so it's easy to figure out how to defeat any enemy quickly enough, and following playthroughs that are not totally different (I mean, there's only genocide and pacifist that are really different if you think about it) will make combat just a thing that doesn't even need to be there anymore. Bosses share the same deal. On a normal or pacifist playthrough, way too easy. In a genocide there's grinding, less boss fights and those are not fun, just painful. There's no actual middle ground.
-The only real good thing about this game I would say is the music and you can clearly see in almost any track where the inspiration comes from.
