Everyone was assmad and wanted the game to fail because it wasn't the SMT/FE crossover they wanted and looked like typical weebshit, ignoring the fact that the team behind it was full of people who made great JRPGs.
The actual style and plot are pretty fucking dull outside of the music bits though, so people kinda had a point about the weebshit. Thankfully the gameplay carries it.
