Have you ever tried reading the terms of service for your physical games? You do own the DVD/BD and the right to use the game. You don't own the game itself.
Of course, that doesn't change the fact that even if the provider goes bankrupt and your online platform of choice disappears, you can still run the game from the disc.
It's the same with GOG. You download the game DRM-free and can keep the installation files on your HDD or DVD if you wish.
