SMT/Persona artist are stylized graphics that are suppose to be iconic looking. They take the relative same approach with development of the art style to allow for multiple content clusters like any popular developer. An HD release of a Persona game in otherwords is a cheap marketing tool and there's zero excuse not to port to other systems. They have been known to work with other console companies and they consider their PC branch to be the worst given they put CAVE in charge of developing an mmo for the series and it ended very badly with Atlus suing someone over Imagine being called free.
Atlus is legitimately crazy in otherwords.

The ultimate reason it went down is because Atlus is legitimately crazy as all fuck.
A long answer is they had an NA branch, this NA branch was ran by Aeria games, which had fucked up the patch cycle by doing paid tiers which mixed up content they also edited patches sent to them to delay and alter shit in their favor, when they finally lost publisher rights and the game transferred back they sent it to Marvelous, which then canned their mmo department. Atlus/CAVE frustrated that their NA version ruined and fucked beyond repair by Aeria decided to ditch the whole thing. They then opened up the region lock on the JP server and the JP server failed, because Atlus let their garbage attitudes on the NA version slip to JP.
They also sued a guy that made a magazine ad on the game in JP saying it was free to play, the quote they were suing over wanted corrected to "Free to play, pay to win"
I'll give that Atlus is brutally honest in this approach, but holy shit that's a new level of fucking crazy.
