This game was rushed, unbalanced and generally flawed. The only thing it did well, was create chill tropical atmosphere.
I know it's a bad game, but why did I enjoy it so much?

The only way of making 3's combat somewhat serviceable is by playing as a demon hunter with their teleport behind you dodge. But then there's another problem as the game is simply too fucking easy compared to old Gothics. Pretty sure i was killing hardest enemies with my magic on low levels.

The Gothic and risen games are all flawed but for some reason still extremely enjoyable and some of my favourite RPGs. They excel in atmosphere and making you feel immersed in their world.

R2/R3 are such fucking disappointment. First Risen wasn't perfect and it's shat on by Americlaps for the same reason they shit on Witcher series - But holy fuck it managed to capture that Gothic/Gothic 2 magic for me. It's one of those "you either love it or hate it" games and I absolutely fucking adore it. Risen 2/3 just kinda lost it on me, they feel like different, worse games.

I think they're all worth playing, but Risen 2 and 3 are very casualized simplified takes on the Gothic formula. They still do a decent job with world builiding and atmosphere overall, so if you're fine with a chill pirate adventure without too much depth go for it, just don't expect to have as much freedom (especially with the thieving) like in the old ones.

Well it's quite different from Asscreed, and there's no ship combat whatsoever. Lots of exploring jungles, treasure hunting and small town politics to deal with though.
And a pretty meh combat system. If you don't like talking to people a lot don't bother.

Started playing it recently and the two main problems I have with it are that the "click to auto-hit" mechanic is godawful and that all your companions can pretty much solo the encounters while you simply wait.
Otherwise, the character writing is typical Piranha Bytes goodness where 3/4th of the people you meet are an asshole to everyone and the rest are bitching about the current state of the world.

Gothic 3 was the one that needed community patches.
Risen 3 "works" straight out of the box.
The only thing I can think of that you need to do is to disable the frame limiter in one of the .ini files.
For some reason they included that shit to lock your fps into the next lowest "stable" framerate, which usually means somewhere around 30, no matter what settings you change.

Oh, and there's another thing I hate: two hours in and I'm already slaughtering golems, dragon snappers, hellhounds, ghouls and tons of other enemies that were or would be Gothic and Risen 1 end-game stuff.
The thing is, I still don't really feel powerful since all my attacks only do chipping damage, even when I do a heavy attack, and the animations are weightless.
