I used that for a fallen survivor costume which was pretty obscure in itself but essentially I had this, some zombie makeup, a pill bottle with pills here! written on it and the boonie hat. I considered making an empty molotov but decided against it in the end. Was probably around 2010 when I did this.
A few guys knew it was from L4D and only one weird kid knew it was the fallen survivor special zombie. So yeah it was mostly just a Zombie costume that some people thought was neat.

Looting bodies is easier as the game drops their remaining inventory onto the ground under their body after you search, meaning you can then pick up the body (with hands free) without being spammed with messages about how you can't pickup their cigarettes.
Knives alt-fire as throwing knives and stack in your inventory, making the thousands of combat knives in the game more useful. Balanced against dedicated throwing knives.
Adds unique weapons like Paul's baton, Smuggler's poisoned knife, Joe's silenced pistol, with unique effects and different weapon stats.
Includes plenty of bugfixes that stop you cheating your lockpicks/multitools. Adds better door breakability. Rebalances pepper spray, I think. Restores some minor cut content for Smuggler, Lebedev, Paul, others.

I wouldn't say it's a kit, I'd say it's a box. Anyway, in the game Stimpak is pretty much what you'd call a "medkit" - a generic fix-it-all medical item. Sometimes those first aid lockers contain them, sometimes they don't!
Stimpak is a more iconic design anyways, being virtually unchanged since the first game. Those boxes are only 3/NV thing. Interestingly, 2D games actually had an item called "First aid kit", it gave a bonus to your First Aid skill when used (which was kind of a garbage skill mostly used by powergamers to gain lots of XP by using it).
