Kojima's writing is wildly inconsistent between games. Retcons everywhere.

Snake has a bunch of completely different personalities. They're kind of different characters. Just accept that.

MGS5 is just all around garbage.
- Shit tier story
- Shit tier main villain
- Huge open world with fucking nothing in it. Just outposts and soldiers.
- Fucked up the squad/army building from Peace Walker
- An entire story arc was just chopped out of the game so Liquid flies off with the most powerful mech on the planet and we never see it again

>>
>>345424692
Yes, Snake, breakfast. The name comes from the idea of "breaking one's fast" and it commonly refers to meals eaten in the morning. Some people call it the most important meal of the day.

>>
>>345421264
I think some Naked Snake-isms crept in a bit, but his dialogue with Otacon and Raiden cemented that he was still mostly the same old Snake. His was just understandably depressed and tired.

The biggest reason for his perceived passivity is that the game has no room for him to interject, save for a few moments. The story is obsessed with vomiting up all the soapy details of the Patriots and Big Boss; there's rarely any room for him to say anything substantial because the game just uses him as an excuse to give the player a Metal Gear history lesson.
>>345422064
Not really. Snake has a pretty clear and easy to follow character arc, even with MGS4's clumsiness.
>>
>>345424812
>The most important... meal?
>>
>>345424692
>Yeah...it might sound corny but I have bad memories about breakfast. I didn't grow up sitting around the table like an ordinary family. We were raised on the battlefield. Eating field rations around a campfire was the closest we came to bonding. This one time, we had been pre-sighted for mortar fire and... I don't want finish the story. It's not pretty. The life of a soldier, a real soldier, is not a romantic one. Not all parades and medals or simple clear cut situations like they make it out to be in training. I don't think I've ever just sat down and eaten an ordinary breakfast.
>>
>>345424773
>The love letter chapter to MGS 1 was awesome

Fan pandering is one of 4's flaws. It doesn't believe in itself enough so it reminds you of better games to get through. NOTHING about re-visiting Shadow Moses made any damn sense.

>Raiden is fucking awesome

They over do it. People didn't like Raiden so they went over the top with super all powerful Raiden.
>>
>>345418164
Is that the only reason?
>>
>>345423504
Arhg it broke my knife!

>>345416160
You only have to backtrack a few rooms back, though. Not necessarily a good thing, but I think people forget how condensed the second disc of MGS1 (or the whole game, really) is. MGS1's biggest issue is barely making time for stealth. It's a boss rush, especially the second disc.
>>
>>345424965
Raiden's problem was that he wasn't cheesy and powerful enough. I still disliked him in MGS4 but MGR completely redeemed him.

>>
>>345427972

They didn't expect him to succeed. Despite the fact that he's done this 2 times in the past already.

Kojima expressed some regret that MGS wasn't a reboot. It probably should have been. MG1-2 tell a nice closed story that work on their own. MGS would work as well with Snake as a rookie, and it removes plot problems liek that.

People only remember the plots to MGS games because they're such a clusterfuck it has actually become a meme. I guess I should take this to heart as I do my own writing.

People remember MGS1 because it has the best characters and characterizations of those characters. Everyone on your codec team is fleshed out if you talk to them enough. Their own motivations, stories, etc. Campbell and Naomi are directly involved in the plot in a good way. Everything about MGS1's narrative is pretty great. It's unfortunate that part of it is delivered through the codec calls on the elevator when having to freeze/warm the PAL keys.

Nobody on the other hand remembers the SC plots. How's your writing though Anon?

You can really tell when the facial mocap isn't from either Keifer or Akio Otsuka. Like when Snake does that awkward smile after a successful FOB. Little things change how the whole face looks. For a while I was convinced Naked and Venom had noticeably different faces just because Akio Otsuka mocapped Snake in the english version of Ground Zeroes for the gameplay and Keifer did for Phantom Pain.

Have you ever eaten a whole bunch of taco bell, then you take a huge shit, but the smell of the shit gags you so you immediately get up and vomit into the toilet?

My writing is that vomit-covered pile of shit.

I think it rather comes from Massive Medic having a different face structure pre-TPP, slanted thinner nose and all that. But it makes sense that Kaz and company don't instantly recognise him. Huey's reaction was bizarre though.
