I'm already getting bored of this game. It's really fucking annoying that the servers are down 80% of the time, but instead of Niantic doing anything about it, they keep releasing the game to more countries.
Additionally, there has been a crippling bug affecting a large percent of the population where all Pokemon are 3 footsteps, regardless of actual distance, and the nearby list is sorted randomly. This makes is almost impossible to track anything and it's sheer fucking luck if you stumble upon a Pokemon.
On top of all that, it's just not fun to catch literally nothing but Pidgeys, Weedles, and Rattatta. I don't feel any sense of progression and there are only ~50 Pokemon total in my area.

There's two prerequesites you need in order to make gyms worth it:
>you're on a team in your city that completely dominates most gyms OR your podunk town has barely anyone playing or everyone's too weak to contest your team's gyms
>you have a very strong connection to Niantic's servers so you can dodge properly without lag or the 1hp bug
And even then it's arguably not worth bothering with gyms since the bonues you get from them are pathetic unless you can hold >5 gyms at a time, and the XP gain from battles is pitiful compared to farming pokemon and evolutions.
