Mortal Kombat has come a long way from its "slap, slap, slap, FINISH HIM" origins.
I appreciate the work they put into making MK a more serious fighting game beyond its gore gimmick. It's not for everyone but I think they took it a long way from its roots and that's cool.
Killer Instinct managed a similar evolution from its roots as a gimmick fighter that made you feel like a badass for getting a "MASTER COMBO" to something that could hold its own against more noteworthy fighting games.

Soul Calibur is the best 3D fighting game I've ever played.
To many others Virtua Fighter is the go-to choice for 3D fighting.
I don't see Tekken in any of that.
