Niko is one of the best GTA protagonists. I agree with the mission variety being shit in IV, but they somewhat alleviated that in V. They had to do a jump forward in terms of tech if they wanted to remain relevant, and limiting the scope in favor of an engine bump was a necessary evil.

GTA Vice City wasn't made in the 80s for no reason. The 2000s sucked so much ass that people rode the nostalgia train. Miami was notorious for its 80s theme. GTA SA wasn't set in 1992 for no reason. California was a big influence in the early 90s in culture. Same thing can be said about New York in 2008. Jay Z, Cloverfield, ring a bell?

Everyone wants Japan. But it won't happen. Which is a shame, we want something new. Have the main character be Claude and about the Japanese underground racing scene and Yakuza. It would be amazing.

Vice City definitely had a better setting and nailed the look and soundtrack. Nobody is denying it is GOAT in this regard.
But as far as being a better game, San Andreas is superior. There is so much more to do and what is there that VC also had is done better.
