My main issue with these designs is that they lack definition. They're too round and soft, with big cartoony eyes, they don't look organic. Sure you had Jigglypuff and whatnot, but they were the exception. Some don't even look like they have skeletons.
But yes, I do agree going simple beats those humanoid digimons and ugly busy patterns we got between 3 and 5.

I feel like most of the greatest people in history are men due in part to the fact that, even if it wasn't their intention, men are programmed to succeed as a sort of mating ritual. Like a peacock flaunting its feathers men discover gravity and cures to diseases because success means sex. It may not be their intention at the time but deep in our subconscious I think food and sex are our two main driving forces.
So this is why women don't succeed as much and are generally weaker willed. They aren't programmed to see it as required. Women go after successful men because they're successful and men accept those women because they are pretty. Now if everyone was bi successful men could go after successful men and pretty women would be forced to bring more to the table. Unfortunately we wouldn't be able to have all the successful men reproduce with each other for obvious reasons but regardless, a lot more women would need to work a lot harder. So now you have successful men able to be a lot more picky and not settle, while you have women either fucking each other or being forced to match the male competition.
The result? Twice as many people trying to cure cancer and make cyborg limbs. Not only that but less distractions for the group currently doing that already. A massive increase in human productivity and advancement, as well as a sharp but temporary decrease in population growth. A utopia of half-faggots.
