Have you bought HTC VIVE VR yet /v/?
>>
>>345313075
That guy sucks at video games
>>
>>345313075

I'll consider it when there's a big enough library or games/movies that isn't short and gimmicky. Right now, I'm not seeing much of a reason to spend $800+ on VR.
>>
>>345313075
What is this?
>>
>>345313075
Yes I have. For me it was worth every penny. VR seems to be here to stay this time. For those complaining about a lack of full games (a valid complaint right now) check back in 2017 once devs have had enough time to make more full fledged experiences.

People need to remember that these things have only been out 4 months so far. Large games with many art assets and content take ages to complete.
>>
>>345313075
no.

I still see VR as a gimmick.

AR on the other hand, as Pokemon Go has shown, works nicely.
It's a shame Valve dropped AR for VR.
>>
>>345313075
Do you really need to carry that fucking bag as some sort of "immersion" attempt?

Also this princess doesn't seem to need any protection, the guy playing sucks by just letting her get hit by everything, the princess reacts as if she got bitten by a mosquito.
>>
>>345313439
AR is really helped by the fact that cell phones that can handle it are pretty much ubiquitous.

I feel that both AR and VR can exist together. They fill different niches.
>>
I've had a go with a Vive and I was really impressed. Once it gets a little cheaper in a few years and VR games become easier to make I reckon it will be big.
>>
>>345313348

I hope it succeeds but it's going to need a lot of support from the manufacturers. Not many games are being made on VR due to the small installbase which limits revenue potential. Thus devs either avoid it entirely since there isn't money to be made or cut their budget to make a VR game resulting in a very short and barebones experience.

The lack of games hurts the ability to sell more units and expand the installbase and the lack of the installbase hurts the incentive for devs to make games on VR. Unless the manufacturers subsidize devs until VR has a sufficient installbase, it might be doomed.
>>
>>345313725
Current VR is crap, though. Until we get some kinda neural connections, it will stay crap
>>
>>345313075

Maybe when fallout 4 is release for it

muh sex and rape mods demand it

Though I want a second gen headset
>>
Nope, I only plan to buy PSVR.
>>
>>345313785
Yeah most stuff is indie right now, but the behemoths of the industry are becoming more interested in it. Bethesda announced that they are remaking fallout 4 to be playable all the way through in VR.

PSVR is going to be much more in people's price point, and that will hopefully give a big boost to the industry as a whole.
>>
>>345313890
May 2022.
>>
>>345314018
>cuck buying the VR with zero content
>>
I can't stand wearing big headphones on my head for a long time. I hate it how they get sweaty and greasy. Not interested in wearing a huge headset that can also make you feel sick if you play for too long. Also requires a lot of space just like Kinect did. And costs 800+

Yeah guys, devs will make more games for it, it's totally not another gimmick. Not gonna flop. No way.
>>
>>345314231
The only thing I'm really worried about for PSVR, is the fact that alot of their games are using artificial locomotion as standard, rather than something you choose as an option once you have some tolerance for VR. For me, even games with a static frame of reference like a plane/car cockpit caused me to have some stomach flips. I had to slowly build up my tolerance to those.

But sliding around never bothered me. Kinda caused me to recoil from the expected feeling of motion that wasn't there, but I never felt sick from it. People are so different in their tolerances, so I hope they offer games that are easy to start out in.
>>
>>345314484
Feels like most of those will be VR only as in not available without using VR.

Shit that makes you feel sick and costs 500-800 dollars. Can't wait for this to flop. Yet again just like VR that came after Kinect, Move and 3DTV bullshit. Something even worse will come after VR. Or the market will finally crash. Because we can't, just can't make conventional games and stick with slow but steady market growth. We need to fuck everything up by carelessly making gimmicky shit and wasting money and developer efforts while blindly hoping that it will expand the market rapidly.
>>
>>345313075

>>
>>345314826
That looks very cute. I've messed around in CM3d2 for a bit, and while its janky to get working, it is very compelling.

This looks like it will be better since it seems to have VR support in it more from the ground up, rather than just being tacked on like CM3d2 is.
>>
How is vr profitable to devs anyways?

I mean when you think about it devs aren't going to make vr only shit. They'll release a game like fallout 4 for regular users and have to tack on a vr mode for people with vr. But the game still costs 60 bucks and they have more work. Unless integrating vr isn't that hard.

I mean for porn games and shit I can see content made specifically for that but for regular games they're still 60 bucks for vr and non vr. So you may see shit like forza vr, but the game still costs 60 bucks and they have the extra work of tacking vr on it.
>>
>>345315423
Right now some games are not too bad for adding VR support. For flight sims and racing games that already had head tracking, the main thing you have to do is make sure the menus are usable in VR and that you can hit 90fps.
>>
>>345314484
I've noticed the locomotion only becomes a problem when you spin around using a second camera.
Movement isn't an issue, but you can't change the camera angle without head movement, it's vomit inducing.
>>
>>345314826
>>345314965
I'd rather have hands instead of controllers. Also a dick. And tits. And ability to feel things

I only have a Gear VR that came with my Galaxy S7.
Picture looks a little too grainy for my taste, the phone's screen is 1440p.
Do the rift and the vive look like this too?
>>

>>
>>345316408

>>

>>

what is even the point this isn't rl
>>
>>345316608
Except it's not
>>
>>345316408
Your question is valid. I've used both a google cardboard headset with a motorola droid turbo as the phone powering it, and the Vive/Oculus.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "grainy" though. There is still a slight screen door effect, although in the Vive/Oculus it is more like a very thin fabric that seems to be stretched over your screen. I do not notice it unless I'm looking for it when a game is running, or when I'm in a loading screen or something similar with a monocolor background.

The Rift and Vive do look better than phone VR. You can force supersampling in games which will make them look clearer as well. You might want to try to find a demo at a gamestop / best buy to see for yourself if it will distract you too much.
>>
>>345314018
Have you tried it? The best buy I work at sets up a demo every Sunday and it's fucking awful. The resolution is so unbelievably shit. Consoles just can't handle it at this point.
>>
>>345316637
Get the fuck out cowtitsfag.
>>
>>345317282
And that's exactly why they're pushing out new consoles as fast as possible, they realized that their VR gimmick doesn't run on the horribly underpowered currentgen
