It's a huge step game play wise from 3/NV The story is alright, I wish there was more dialog choices though. Pretty much any issue I had with it got fixed by mods.
Is it really all that praised? All the highest reviews on metacritic are either IGN, GameSpot, or a bunch of shit sites nobodies ever heard of. Most of the other reviews are 8's or 7's. Still higher than I would give it, but definitely not high praise.

Maybe it's just that the universe itself of Fallout is boring and uninteresting to me, but I just couldn't get into it for whatever reason, even despite putting like 50 or so hours in.
I thought I'd really like the base building stuff but it just felt tedious as fuck and horribly broken, and it just irritated me too much that all I could build was dumpy looking furniture and walls/floors/whatever that looks like they just found whatever wood lying around and nailed it together, making it look ugly as fuck.

They consistently release bug riddled messes that are further streamlined and remove depth with every iteration. I played it for 100 hours and when I realised that helping the settlements actually didn't matter jack shit I dropped it.
I didn't want to do the main quest because it was so fucking stupid, so what's left in the game to do? Radiant quests? That's it.
