Dual wielding is impractical because it severely restricts your movements. You can't take a stance which doesn't leave your defense wide open and your offensive power doesn't benefit either since you can only effectively attack with one sword at a time.

Actually it's not double the damage since either when you attack you won't have any power in your strikes because you aren't able to put your full body into the swing, or you use the two weapons at the same speed as using one weapon because you're putting your body into every swing.

You mean half the damage. Cutting a person is based on pressure, which is force per area. If you're trying to slash someone with two swords at the same time, you're spreading the same amount of force over double the area. You'd have to be absurdly strong and dexterous with both arms to properly maneuver these swords to ensure they cut deep instead of glancing off the body or being easily knocked away. If you did have this kind of power, you'd be far more successful with a 2-handed weapon and smashing the opponent's guard to pieces.
Dual-wielding works with daggers because they're lightweight, but you'd probably rather have a shield or a free hand.
