Can someone please explain to me why they won't pre order a game that has literally 0 downsides to pre-ordering?

Don't like it after release? Steam refund. Done.

There's literally nothing bad about pre ordering off Steam. Nothing. Not. A. Thing.
>>
>>345260752
I honestly don't get the hate for pre-orders. As long as you can cancel or refund afterwards it's a non-issue

>>345260936

Pre order bonuses aren't an upside? Maybe for you.

Locking in your purchase so you don't have to worry about remembering anything when it's released.

A pre-load of the game so you're not waiting hours on release day?

The feel you get from knowing that theres no downside to participating an action that involves money.
>>
>>345261146
the pre order bonus in this case is a random ship among a literal infinity of ships

Lock in your purchase as in its done, finished, nothing left to do but wait.

6gb will take a while if everyone and their grandma is trying to download it at the same time too.

6 GB in 15 minutes is 26 Mb per second, which is currently the fastest internet only available in south korea.

The terrain generation from the latest trailer is what sold me. What they've been able to do with this procedural engine they created is much better than the handcrafted garbage I've seen in recent triple A open world games like Fallout 4.

Why not preorder it and try it for yourself, keep it of you like, or refund if you don't?
>>
>>345265591
Why not be a smart consumer that doesn't buy into hype and wait till at least the review embargo is lifted
>>
>>345262132
Who needs pre-orders when you have day one cracks anyway?
>>
>>345265892
What's not smart about pre-ordering? You can literally refund and get ALL your money back if you don't like it.

There's no downside. At all.

You know what being a smarter consumer is? Trying things to see if you'd like them or not, not blindly listening to some person tell you their anecdotal, personal experience exclusive to them. What kind of idiot consumer bases his purchases off of what OTHER people have experienced?

Every game I want on Steam (or any platform with a refund option) I buy as soon as I see it, try it out, and refund if needed. Reviews are largely irrelevant for me. A lot of the time I see a game with very positive reviews, try it and it's not for me. The same in reverse, games with a lot of negative reviews sometimes are good for what I like. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

It's fine to be cautious and shit but when there's literally a foolproof way to experience something without wasting money, why not?

It's like test driving a car. You don't let your friends drive and then base your purchase off of their experience with it. You drive it and get your own experience.
>>
why can't somebody preorder it for me
>>
>>345266587
It's not about test-driving or shit.
Hell, maybe I'll buy it on release or second day it comes out.

What's bad is giving companies preemptively money for a product you can't even use. You don't know if it's finished, you can't have it or use it.

I get the testing analogy, but you can't do it now after preordering now can you? But you already gave money. Now that is wrong.
>>
>>345248758
As somebody who bought starbound on the promise of 'INFINITE PLANETS YOU GUISE!" and was thuroughly disappointed that they were all
>Desert planet with red sand and green water
>desert planet with green sand and purple water
>forest planet with pink trees and yellow water
>frozen planet with yellow snow and clear water
I can't wait to laugh at the buyers remorse from the people who think No mans Sky will be anything different.
>>
>>345267027
I can only see that being a bad thing if you're a poorfag, in which case you shouldn't be buying games anyway lol.

I get my money back if I'm not satisfied. There's no catch.

I'm gonna light up a bowl and get blazed and then go play NMS. You guys don't understand how much I love the cosmos, I worship Carl Sagan like Jesus and I dream of a day where humanity will colonize other star systems.

NMS is currently the only game where I can do that. There is Star Citizen but that game won't be done until at least the 2020-2022, they just don't have powerful enough graphics cards to create procedural generated planets with that kind of detail.
>>
realistically im hyped because this will revive the space and minecraft genres but the limited multiplayer is VERY disappointing
>>
>>345267216
Watch a game play video and you'll see this is a far more advanced procedural system than Starboard. The terrain generation alone is almost as crazy as minecrafthe, with huge ass valleys and canyons and gorges and mountains and forests and snowy forests and swamps and all sort of different things. Its really not just color swapped sameness, dude.

Funny, making that braindead sheep.

You are giving money, for a game, you can't play, from developers who are clearly sidestepping gameplay questions and not showing full features on a sole basis of hype.

Yeah you might your money back with a refund, but you just fueled the hype machine that will try to suck in more people's money.

Anyway it's your money. i already got duped enough times in my life with high expectations. Skyrim, Starbound, Shadow of Mordor and Gungeon to name a few.
>>
>>345267948
Pretty much. Though don't get me wrong, exploring it and finding interesting things like human prisons, apex labs, etc were fun for the first week, after you've seen them a dozen times over just with very slight variations, it really ruined what was such a fantastic idea on paper.

Honest i had more fun with a couple friends hunting down musical intruments, and playing songs together in a band of sorts.

Yeah sure if you don't mind waiting weeks for a Crack, hours for a torrent (days depending on size) and more time trying to get a pirated copy to run. Not to mention no update support and the possibility of your IP being flagged for file sharing a video game, if you're dumb about not hiding properly when torrenting, which many are.

I used to pirate games before I got a steady job. It's always a pain in the ass to wait for the torrent and then mount everything to a virtual drive then apply cracks and patches, test to see if it works then play, especially a week after release because they haven't cracked it yet.

I'd rather wait the few hours on steam then launch and play a legit copy I earned with my own money. If I like it, great, content creators supported. If not, fuck you content creators, gimme mah money back, lost sale for you.

Frankly speaking 2 hours is not enough to test a game, and then you have to reason with steam support to get back your money, and then even assuming you refund the game at the moment (after 2 hours of playtest), 6 months later you hear that the game is better so you buy it again, realize it's still not worth your money and refund but too bad you can't anymore

A whole lot of assumptions and arrogance here.

Even ignoring the fact you're talking out of your gaping asshole, why do you think I'm wasting money? There's a refund option.

You spend 60 dollars on a restaurant dinner with 3 people and eat for maybe 1-2 hours. That's worth it to you, so how is an entire week of fun playtime not worth 60 dollars?

For me, if I can get a whole 7 days of game play for 60 dollars, that's totally worth it. Maybe it's the young fags, the newer generations that can't comprehend actual value, and pretend 60 dollars is only worth 100+hours, but I'm seriously entertained by your post.

Cool attacks on your own exaggerations of what I said. There's a logical fallacy for that, I believe. /v/ should honestly get a fallacy sticky like /pol/ because you idiots just can't stop.

It's like 2 extra steps beyond installing off Steam. I've said many times its not hard, or difficult, but adding extra steps to an easy process makes it MORE difficult. Not difficult, just more than it was. Do you understand? Probably not.

I want this game to have at least a 250h campaign full of one of the kind quest with no backtracking, 30 minutes sex scenes with no gay sex because I don't like pandering to SJW (ok maybe lesbian sex scenes are accepted, but the lesbians must also be bi so I can jump in the action if I want), mod support, huge map (at least 4x the map of Gta5), each dialogue should have at least 10 options, day and night cycles, dynamic weather, 64v64 multiplayer with vehicles but also a classless arena shooter at the same time (more choices never hurt anyone amirite?), at least 30 multiplayer maps, co-op, splitscreen, daily free DLC with no microtransactions also should look at least like Battlefront and should run at 144fps in 4k on my 450MHz Pentium 3.
If it ticks all the points I might consider getting it when it's 90% off, after downloading it from the pirate Bay (to see if I like it of course).
