I torrented it. it's decent, and there are a few quests. There is a shit ton of space to build in, so no complaints there. Honestly it's great if you like workshop mode, but some of the building aspects are frustrating. It's decent over all.

I remember them specifically pointing out that when they showed off the barbershop item people were excited that they could customize their dwellers, but then they had to make it clear that isn't the case at all and it's just letting you bring showlooksmenu to your settlements as opposed to having to see the asian guy.

Like, what the fuck? Fallout Shelter has more RPG elements and features in general compared to the actual Fallout.

Basically there are 4 shitty experiments that you can do on some settlers. For example you can build a soda machine that either acts like a normal machine and provides food, or you can inject the soda machine with different chemicals to make the settlers sort of loopy. It's pretty autistic. There are a shit ton of pieces to build with, but figuring out which ones go where can be a HUGE pain in the ass. However, with the shit they provide you could probably do a lot.
>>
>>345242567

Bummer, probably something I'll mostly ignore then. The settlement crap is a good baseline but they really need to tie some gameplay to it.
>>
Finally a convenience for all those wondrous ideas I've been having. For years, I've been saying the mods need to be packaged by Bethesda, and now, I can enjoy them the way developers intended. Is there anything I can't thank this team for?

Yeah it was a let down. The quest line and experiments were way shorter than they should have been. The way the experiments worked were that you had to build something like a stationary bike (the one that was in the trailer for the DLC), and then you hook it up to a computer, and power said computer. From there you select the effect that the bike has. There are usually 3 options that consists of a normal "moral choice" as the main protagonist calls it (such as the bike simply providing a temporary endurance boost to you or any NPC that uses it), or something along the lines of getting the dweller addicted to riding the bike via injected chemicals, and said bike converting the bike usage into raw power. After you make your selection you wait an hour and then listen to some dialogue, and then the experiment is done. Honestly you can complete the entire quest line in 10 minutes.

So did I. I was really hoping for more story DLC. I'm at least lucky that I got the season pass for $30. The workshop DLC's are lame as fuck. Some of the concepts are cool, but they should have been included in the base game.
>>
Is there some bullshit explanation as to how this is all possible or does the DLC not have any connection to the story at all?
>>
>>345245323
How's the contraptions DLC? Do the conveyor belts, crafting machines and shit like allow you to make cool stuff? Or is it just glorified crafting?

The quest literally consists of you listening to a radio broadcast, killing raiders, then talking to some ghoul bitch who was trapped in this cave for 200 years. The entire quest is short, and the dialogue seems really stupid and unrealistic even for Fallout 4. There is no tie to the story aside from the few dialogue options where the player can talk about how they don't like Vaults.

It's kind of cool if you play survival, but other than that you have an easier time finding ammo off dead bodies and in chests/containers. It is one of the better workshop DLC's, but again it should have been included in the base game. In terms of things you can make, it's pretty much specific ammo types, military armor that is already littered throughout the game, and random pieces of power armor. You can make food and shit too but it's really not all that exciting. Some of the decorations are cool though.
>>
>>345238430
I really want to know what the "SARCASTIC" option makes the player say at 13:10 in the video
>>
What did you guys expect from a workshop DLC? At least you get a 10 minute questline, unlike the other two workshops.
>>
>>345246121
Something other than things that should have been in the game in the first place.
>>
Fallout 4's DLC has been shit so far. 4 glorified mods, and a shittier Point Lookout.
>>
>>345246085
even contraptions is fairly bare bones as a DLC and is really saved by manufacturing extended

vault tec dlc is looking to be the best of the three, just because of the size of the build area and other quality of life features
>>
>>345245112

I thought the "we're planning a lot of DLC, so we're increasing the price" thing meant all of these DLC would be the first set they release with more being planned.

It's actually hard to believe they did worse DLC wise than Fallout 3. I knew this shitty workshop system would tear away at content people play the actual game for.

The first three DLC were wave one. Contraptions, Vault-Tec, and Nuka World were the reason for the price increase, according to them.

This is why you shouldn't support the season pass model

Cool, but Fo4 seems to be more about what Bethesda can do with their engine, it is not really a good RPG, but it is a fun sandbox.

Too bad they cannot get Obsidian on the phone anymore, given Fo3 Van Buren plot was around developing settlements, it could be built into the plot, and have a bigger impact than what Obsidian had planned originally.

After one hour I'm already done with it. The area you have to work with is enormous, but there's only seven or eight rooms to build and fuck all to put in them and there's no actual added functionality so ultimately it's still just a worthless settlement filled with worthless settlers. Only true autists could find this even slightly worth spending real earth dollars on. Questline is uninteresting and only adds four items that don't do anything, plus a worthless vault suit when you finish them all. Even though the map is big some of the transitions from sector to sector are so poorly-done that you can't build hallways through them so you have to go outside the vault shit to get to them. Plus the reactors are too big to fit in any room that isn't an atrium because Bethesda in all their infinite wisdom made every other room have a maximum of one story unless you add floor above it which you can't do thanks to the fucking reactor existing in that space already.

It's pretty shit, even by Fallout 4 standards. I don't even know why I torrented the game for the fourth time just to try this garbage out.

Underdog indie devs like Todd have to subsist on meager rations like that in order to survive. Most of the money from game sales goes directly into improving the product for the consumer, and the devs themselves rarely make enough to even make ends meet, and often have to hold down one or more actual jobs just to be able to enjoy their hobby; making video games to share with the world.

It looks like he has part of a potato in there, f4 must have really done well.

Even if you managed to argue that those two are actually considerable as fully fledged towns, that's still only four towns, two of which are barebones as fuck. That's still less than the original Fallout.
>>
>>345263032
Absolutely fucking shameful, how has Bethesda gotten away with this?
>>
fallout 4 isn't a bad game
>>
>>345260491
Why. He's just a soilder. There's no reason for him to know this.
>>
Goodneighbour, Diamond City, Vault 81, Prydwen, Institute, Covenant can all be considered towns.

All these locations have traders, people living and various quests.
>>
>>345263249
It's a decent open world shooter with survival craft aspects, on the lines of something like Far Cry.

It's fucking disgusting as a Fallout game though.
>>
>>345242531
Like a week after release I had a mod that added that functionality, wtf, how lazy is Todd?
>>

Yes it is

How many of these locations have atleast 20 people in them?

lmao

and I totally forgot Vault 81 even existed. Shows how good Fallout 4's world building is I suppose.Even fucking Adytum was more memorable than that.

>>
>>345263628
All right you dandy fuck, name one village/town from Morrowwind, Oblivion, or Skyrim that had 20 people.
>>
>>345263761
Five towns isn't very impressive for a big budget game like this.
>>
>>345263886
Never played them. Why the fuck does it matter?
>>
>>345263793
Fallout 3, ten years prior to Fallout 3, also had a plot that hinged on getting a fuckhueg science project working to purify water. It looks James and the Brotherhood of Steel decades to do something that the Sole Survivor can do in minutes.

Entire industries and merchant empires have been founded on the West Coast based on the claim to pure water, but in the Commonwealth it's utterly trivialized by a bloke in a Vault suit that can make pure water out of scrap metal.
>>
>>345263886
Meant to say Bunker Hill, not Covenant. Covenant only has 1 quest tied to it.

The time it has been since the nuclear war in Fallout 4 for us is equivalent to the time it has been since the Napoleonic wars were going on. If Bethesda wants to have such terrible shitholes of a game world, they need to start setting the games not long after the nuclear war happened.

Fallout 3 was actually supposed to be just after the war, but they changed the date for some reason. It would make much more sense.

they really need to do a spinoff series with games set up to maybe 50 years after the war. a game set in the near immediate aftermath would be fucking hot. i mean it wouldn't really be a fallout game at that point but neither are what we're getting now anyway, so why not make use of some unexplored territory rather than making the same game over and over

Except fallout 2 and new vegas take place in the Mojave Wasteland e.g the Mojave Desert

Fallout 4 takes place around the Boston commonwealth, a MUCH smaller area

You know, the best part about the shitty season pass for Fallout is that Far Harbour wasn't really planned for it. They upped the price just now recently to facilitate Far Harbour and the Nuka Cola Theme Park both being in it.

Essentially, they only really planned to add a few shitty worskhop items and pass that off as the season pass.

If Bethesda allowed you to create a Fallout game of your own plot and setting, what would it be?

Hard mode: Todd is making you include some of East Coast lore in

Dante must die mode: Have to keep the settlement system in

Bethesda games are extremely easy to pirate. Just don't give Todd your money from now on.
>>
>>345266607
Midwest, probably Illinois/Chicago Just so I can clear up the lore there and also not step on the toes of Bethesda or Obsidian/Black Isle

Plot wise I'd probably recycle leftover content from Van Buren not already taken by New Vegas. I'd probably have a plot related to the New Plague, Bloomfield Space Center (Now moved to Rockford) and BOMB 001. In terms of lore I'd place emphasis on how parts of the USA were coming apart before the war. In Chicago you'd see the remains of a pre-war riot, quarantine and those Insta-Pen anti-riot cages from Van Buren. The Chicago Enclave outpost would probably play a role. Of course I'd have new Midwestern factions to play with.

The Midwestern Brotherhood would be massively scaled back from Tactics. I'd still have them bigger and outward than the Mojave chapter, but they're not a state-spanning army.

In terms of East Coast lore, I'd probably involve the Slave trade from the Pitt in some fashion.

In terms of East Coast

Set several years after New Vegas, Vegas itself is now apart of the NCR. The Legion has disbanded with several former members splintering into raider tribes.

In the outlying regions, Someone is trying to unite all the raider tribes into a large force big enough to rival the strength of the NCR.

The game takes place on the fringe of NCR territory, You play as an NCR conscript that gets taken prisoner in a surprise attack while training. This introduces you to the failing state of the NCR as well as the escalating threat of the coordinated raider force.

Todd tax- A quest where you encounter a platoon of east coast BOS moving west after being all but wiped out.

DMDM- Outpost building if you side with NCR, Raid camp building if you side with the raiders.

>>345238430

>>
>>345265940

He is already got most of the prewar perks because he was directly frozen in time and thus much more familiar with prewar tech where as almost everybody else was popped from a post war womb. You had the luxury of being a pre war popsicle so you don't need to be told on how to use a power armor. Likewise, you probably read vault tec schematics for fun.
>>
>>345256902
They don't
>>
>>345238430
Stupid.

Why?
Because builders/factories can't be manned by settlers and turn off as soon as you leave a settlement.
What a fucking waste.
>>
>>345271617
Yes, but only while you're in the settlement, turn on the machines and then stand there and wait for it to churn out ammo.

No automated assembly lines here, everything only works while your around.
>>
Don't know, still on 1.5.416 or what ever the last 1.5 update was because 1.6+ shits it self with settlers with any mods installed.
>>
>>345272182
That's not THAT bad. Does it need resources or make it on its own? How fast or slow are we talking here? How many rounds per minute can you produce?
>>
>>345272819
It takes about about 8 seconds to craft 10 shotgun shells once the builder is loaded.

You can do some overfancy hopper + conveyer system to feed it but theneverything is even slower because you have to wait until all the parts are loaded (which at a speed that won't jam the hopper is 1 item per second, you need 6 items to craft shotgun shells (2plastic, 2 lead, 2 fertilizer) and the hopper only sends items in order, so if you have 100 lead/100plastic/100fertilizer in a container for the hopper, it will send 100 lead units, then 100 plastic, so on - 202 seconds before the builder can even start.
Or you can just dump the junk straight into the builder itself and bypass 202 seconds of waiting for no reason.

All the extra time would be alright if you could have settlers man the factory, but you can't - so as far as it goes, the whole conveyor/hopper/sorter/etc system is useless - it's just added time.

The builders are alright, certainly cheaper than buying ammo - but forget the rest of the cruft, the only things you need are a builder of whatever type, an attached terminal and conveyor storage so your shit doesn't just spill all over the floor.
