Digimon's anime is only good every other season.
Pokemon's anime follows a kind of inverse bell curve, were it started out okay then got pretty shit and is getting better again.
The games are kind of spotty on both fronts.
Pokemon games tend to be endless rehashes even within the spinoff series. Occasionally you'll get a truly great game, but you're usually just saddled with mediocre trash.
Digimon games have small bursts of actually amazing games, but are mostly just discount SMT.

It was just monster of the week shit, you could watch hours of episodes and literally nothing of consequence would happen. It's just "here's a new pokemon and a character who needs your help and team rocket gets involved in this somehow" over and over. The gym battles and catching new pokemon, evolutions etc parts were great but they became increasingly rare once they realised how huge pokemon was and how much they needed to space out the actual important stuff.
Anime was just 75% filler from the orange islands out.
The only digi game I've played is Cyber Sluts and it is really, really good.
I haven't enjoyed a Pokemon game since Black/White.

I think Cyber Sluts is, not better, but another kind of experience actually. I can't compare it to Pokemon easily. It's more like a traditional JRPG with Pokemon-ish team building.

I've always seen Digimon as a real redundant show. The larger the cast is, the more Digimon are alike their kids in personality. Also most of the time I don't feel like the kids ever needed to be there.
When they are justified, except in the 3rd one, it feels absurd. Like... the kids in the original arc need to find the tags and crests to make their partners digivolve temporarily to become more powerful. There's this loose talk of destiny but Leomon shows clearly those could be used to make any digimon digivolve... but for some reason they ignore that ability, and really why the kids have to be the ones to get them.

Pokemon games are massively overrated that it hurts. The first two iterations were decent games. It takes 30-40 hours to complete and it's perfect for a gameboy. Battles are turned based so you can be interrupted any time. It's more personal since you pick your own combination of pokemon and play your style. That being said, Pokemon has a ton of flaws.
There are no strategies outside of just using your strongest move over and over and avoid fighting with Pokemon matching your weakness. Pokemon lacked a good story, which is essential for any RPG. Team rocket and Gary are lackluster villains and your only motivation is to become the Pokemon master. The NPC are all dull as shit aside from like two NPCs. It's extremely underwhelming when you have RPGs like Final Fantasy 6, Earthbound, and Chrono Trigger with endless lore and rich engaging story telling.
Then there is the Pokemon design. This is where Digimon absolutely blows Pokemon out of the water. The creative process of designing a Pokemon is pick an animal or object, change a few things, and give it a related name. Sometimes they don't even try. Look at Seel. The only difference between Seel and an actual seal is a horn and one letter. Look at Voltorb, it's a fucking Pokeball. After the 2nd iteration, the design gets lazier and lazier. An ice cream cone and a fucking pile of garbage. Seriously?!?! Digimon put a lot of heart and soul into monster design. Wargreymon looks awesome. Omnimon looks awesome. Even smaller Digimon like Patamon are awesome.
The second game did things slightly better. The story still wasn't interesting, but it was better. From the third iteration and onwards, it's basically the same thing recycled. After the 2nd iteration, shit just got worse. They did add extra stuff, but it's largely superficial like battling with two pokemon at the same time. If the games want to evolve, they need a massive change in the outdated battling system. [cont...]

Let me break down the first four Digimon games.
1st Digimon Game - It feels more like a Tamagotchi. You have to feed your monster, give it love (but not too much), make sure it doesn't shit on the ground, and manually train it. This looks all good on paper, but the implementation is pretty shit. The requirements are too strict. If you don't do things exactly the way the game wants you to, then you'll end up with a shitty Numemon. The story is very meh.
2nd Digimon Game - Possibly the shittiest game in the franchise. It's extremely buggy. There are a ton of game breaking bugs. Did they not hire a QA for this game? Take the Tamagotchi concept and throw it out of the window. They went for more of a tradition RPG format. A fair decision, but the execution was very shoddy. The amount of filler is unbelievable. The story was just plain lazy.
3rd Digimon Game - Probably the best out of the 4. They took 2nd Digimon game and improved on every single aspect. There is one really huge technical issue. The loading times... Expect 2-3 minutes of loading when going out of battle or into or out of an area. If you're planning to pick this up, playing it on the emulator is a definite must. The story is actually fantastic. The music is massively underrated. The best part of game is the mini-card game that will even put Gwent to shame.
4th Digimon Game - They changed the formula a little too much. Now it's more like an ARPG. You control the Digimon. The turn based combat doesn't apply. First few hours are really good and fun. After that it gets boring. The story is virtually non-existent. The level design is incredibly lazy. It's like they hand picked all of the worst Digimon and put them in the game. The options are very limiting. Dungeons feels copied and pasted.
