1. GTX 970 or RX480
2. The most effective i5 cpu?
3. 8Gb DDR4 or 16Gb DDR3?
4. HDD or SSD

And why those?
>>
>>345214482

1. RX 480 shits on the 970. More vram and using the new apis like dx12 and vulkan, it's way ahead.
2. 6600k
http://www.microcenter.com/product/451885/Core_i5-6600K_35GHz_1151_Boxed_Processor
3. DDR4 is pretty much the standard not sure which old ass mobo supports DDR3
4. What kind of question is this? Of course ssd is better but it costs a shitload more. If you can only have 1 storage medium, you are best off with 1 terabyte HDD
>>
>>345215340

This.

Although from a purely gaming point of view I'd do some looking and get an older i5 for around 100 dollars.
>>
>>345214482
gtx 1060

don't ever listen to people telling you to buy AMD. AMD is a sub-brand for poor people. over 70% of users on Steam have nvidia graphics cards.
>>
>>345214482
>4. HDD or SSD

you get a 250gb ssd and a 1tb hdd or whatever. both.
>>
>>345216370

I think like any brand vs brand thing people have a preference because of their previous experiences.

My 1GB HD 6870 has served me well for going on 4 years now, because of that I'm gonna continue to buy AMD. If my first real PC was with a nvidia card instead of AMD I might just as well buy nvidia, but so far I've had no reason to switch.
>>
>>345215340
SSDs are cheap. You can get a 480gb ssd for $99
>>
>>345216370
That's terrible advice when we don't have any good idea of how it's going to perform atm
>>
>>345214482
1) RX480. prices for 970 stil havent gone down
2) All unlocked i5 are good. even 2nd gen i5s still play comparably with little bottle neck.
3) More RAM is better than faster RAM. Just choose Ram that fits your motherboard.
4) If you can afford, get an SSD. If not, get an ssd and hdd. Just put your windows in the SSD.

We already know how it's going to perform. The card is out in stores.

It's equivalent to a 480 in DX12 and significantly faster in Vulkan. Sorry, you lose.

AMD's 480 card did not meet PCI specification and drew up to 150-200v in spikes from the PCI express port. This is a huge issue that I have never before seen on any piece of computer hardware. The issue was fixed in drivers, but the result is that the card is undervolted and underclocked.

You buy a 480, you buy a card that is factory defective. It is not an argument. I have been buying video cards since rendition verite in 1995. I have bought cards of every generation. There has NEVER been a card with a huge electrical engineering error like on the 480 cards.

1. RX 480
>more VRAM
>newer
>cheaper
>better driver support going forward (Nvidia already put their 700 series in the legacy section while AMD still supports the HD 7000 series)

2. i5 6600, or 6600k version if you overclock. Anything above the 6600 is not needed for gaming but useful for other tasks

3. Not much different between DDR3 and DDR4 at the moment but may as well get DDR4 going forward

4. SSD for OS and your most played games, HDD for longterm storage
>>

games are not going to be programmed to take advantage of aSync as nvidia does not think it's important and nvidia controls the industry.

3) 8gb. you only need 8gb right now. but wanna know the great thing about ram? it takes 2 seconds to pop more sticks in. so if you need more ram in a few years, you can order two more sticks.

4) both. ssd for OS and some games and HDD for everything else.

basically the 1060 beats the 480 in everything except ashes of the singularity, a game AMD spent money "gameworksing", and the 1060 equals the 480 in that game.

ashes of the singularity averages about 300 players at a time on steam.

>The issue was fixed in drivers, but the result is that the card is undervolted and underclocked.

There's a "compatibility mode" which makes the card 3% slower:

https://www.computerbase.de/2016-07/radeon-rx-480-crimson-16.7.2-test/#diagramm-performancerating-1920-1080

Without it, power gets shifted to the 6-pin, which is less of an issue, as the wires can actually handle much more. The amount of 12V pins doesn't even change to an 8-pin.

>AMD is a sub-brand for poor people
The 480 and 1060 are in the same price bracket

Founder's edition garbage will rake up the price of the 1060 most likely to 300. The true challenge lies in the aftermarket versions of both cards. As in which one overclock's better and which one wins out on average. Well I'm not getting either but if I was I'd still go for the 480 just for that 8 gb vram. Unless the 1060 has a huge advantage over it which doesn't seem to be the case.

We'll see in a few days. The other factor is how quickly nvidia tends to ditch the x60 series. If you look at 760 vs 280 or 960 vs 380 benches these days, they don't do so hot. So anyone who plans to use this card for a while, it's always better to go amd. If it's a minor side grade I really don't think it matters which you pick.

>but but WCCFTECH CHINESE

wcctech is known as a rumor melting pot for a reason.

They also had "leaked footage" of a 480 rivaling the 980 and Fury: http://wccftech.com/radeon-rx-480-gaming-performance-review-leaked/

>all of the 5 sources

If you don't get money for this level of shilling, I'd consider suicide.

>yes make sure to look up the benchmarks i just posted of the 1060 non async beating the 480 async in DX12. LOL!!!!!!!!!

Benchmarks released by Nvidia without any further context are absolutely worthless. But of course, you're in for the shilling.

Here's what Async Shaders on Vulkan can do:

no, they weren't. are you the same guy who double lied earlier that the amd 7000 is supported and nvidia 700 series isn't?

the argument is over 1060 is factually a better card than 480 and nvidia factually has better support than amd

/thread

please stop trying to argue against objective facts. it embarrasses the human race.

>>345219619
Oh yeah, just like those leaks that claimed the 480 was R9 Nano level. Totally legit, right?
>>
>>345222407
the card is out in stores anon. tens of benchmarks will appear in the next day. go check yourself.

im done. it gets really, really old arguing with delusional fanboys

1. 1060 for VR, 480 if 1060's benchmarks fall under it.
2. I heard 6600K but if you're starting out, you don't need to overclock so go for the regular 6600
3. Depends on your motherboard. DDR4 is the only compatible RAM for the 6600
4. 250gb SSD for OS and most used programs, 1TB-2TB HDD for storage. Both should be around $50 if you look around.

Which is why a 370 is cucking the shit out of a 780ti here, right?

The argument isn't over until there are independent benchmarks from reliable sources with their testing methods disclosed. The 480 was also portrayed as a "980 killer" by many "leaked" sources and we've seen how this worked out.

I don't disagree in waiting for the 1060, but even if it delivers, what will the starting price be? They're going to release another "Founders Edition" at a higher price point, which certainly wouldn't sell if the "249$ MSRP" was available at the exact same time:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10474/nvidia-announces-geforce-gtx-1060-july-19

If that is the case, there is no shame in getting a 480 now, unless the 1060 absolutely BTFOs it. But we won't know until the 19th.

You're the only embarrassment here.

1. RX 480 that isnt reference (custom cooler)
they have had problems where the card doesnt get enough power and PC turns off, i know they patched it with a driver but i dont trust it

2. probably something like a 6600k or whatever the best bang for buck that the mobo supports

3. DDR4 is what everything is using now a days and it isnt backwards compatible

4. if you have the budget
get a 500gb SSD and a 1tb HDD
